Hansen, Seattle Council reach deal on financing new sports arena

I can see it from the Maloofs side. Here is the deal: I have a team and an arena. I don't have a lot of money but I generate income with the TV deal, radio, sponsors, parking revenue etc. I also get revenue when rodeos, concerts, conventions. I am currently independent to do what I wish. Now your coming to me and your saying" let's build a new arena in which you becoming the head become the tail." instead of you making money, you have to give money. The Natmos land gets sold and the money comes to the city. Then you don't own the arena, you have to pay rent in it. Then you don't get anymore money for parking and for other events in the new arena. So your losing money. So what is the advantage in that?

First off, I'm getting a little tired of you. Just call me cranky! No matter what anyone says, you keep on the same track, and most of this stuff isn't arguable. Were giving you facts, and you tend to ignore them and come back with the same arguement, just rephrased differently. In response to the paragraph above, you have all the facts backwards. The city has never came to the Maloofs and said gee, lets build a new arena, and Oh, by the way you need to pay for some of it.

Quite the contrary. The Maloofs came to the city and said build us a new arena or we'll leave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, every time the city came up with an idea, the Maloofs found a way to pull the rug out from under it. This whole deal started because the Maloofs wanted to leave sacramento, and the reason they wanted to leave was because of no new arena. So the city and the league found a way to finance a new arena with little cost to the Maloofs, and guess what, they blew up the deal again. No one has ever forced them to move out of their own building. Now if they want a new arena and also want all the revenues connected to it, then they have to put up the majority of the money. Problem is, they don't have any money.

What your doing right now, is your walking around in an area where there's a lot of emotion, and most of it bad in regards to the Maloofs. There are people on this fourm that literally hate them. I was one of those that defended them for years. But no more. They can go straight to hell for the grief they've caused the fans and the city. And anyone that wants to defend them can join them.

Now, I have a question. Is the deal with Chris Hansen iron clad? Meaning if another person comes in (example The Maloofs) and wants to build an arena say at Seattle Center key arena area competing in Chris Hansen's territory, can they do that or is the Seattle City Council agreement only with Chris Hansen? So no one can come in and build an arena in Seattle that isn't Chris Hansen?

Chris Hansen is prepared to contribute $290M to the construction of that arena, basically 60% of the cost. Now, I don't know about the exclusivity of the deal, so if the Maloofs were willing to contribute $290M upfront to the arena construction maybe th- (extreme laughing fit ensues)

(Nope, still laughing)

(My diaphragm hurts!)

(When will this laughing stop?)

(OK, calming down...breathe...breathe)

(Nope, still laughing)

(Passes out from exhaustion)

Well I am done walking around it. I got my questions answered. Thanks! I didnt mean to offend you and anyone. Was just asking questions. But someone gave me the answers I need, So I wont be asking them anymore. When I read what they wrote me, I understand more why the Kings should stay in Sacramento, not go anywhere else. So I am going to start working on that.

Thank you everyone for not jumping on me and being understanding.

What I was told that Chris Hansen exclusivity is with the City of Seattle. So no one else can come in and build an arena in Seattle. Someone else can build an arena in a surrounding area but they wouldnt be able to use the name Seattle Supersonics. The NBA wants Steve Ballmer as an owner and so David Stern is working with that group. Now the city of Bellevue wants an arena but the people in Chris Hansen's group only wants in in Seattle so they can use the Seattle Supersonics brand name besides he feels that the people in Seattle started with the Sonics and should end with the Sonics. In the OKC move, The City of Seattle got the history and the name, So they only want it in Seattle. The reason why they want it at that site called SODO (South Downtown) is because it is easier access by light rail than it would be to have it at Seattle Center. Plus to remodel the KEY Arena isnt an option and tearing it down and rebuilding a brand new one would cost more than to build it straight out on flat land next to the Safeco field due to demolition costs.

I took V21's advice and went back to read and got caught up. Glad I have this board to read. Lot of rumors out there that aren't true.
