Half-time interview with Cuttino

Here are the excerpts of the first meeting between Cuttino, who had a big grin on his face the entire time, and the Sacramento media. It happened during half-time:

"I'm gonna have some fun here. I'm gonna have some fun. I wasn't angry about coming here, it was just about leaving a brother - a best friend. I'm not unhappy about being here. I'm happy in Sacramento. I'm happy here! I just talked to Gavin and his brother and I'm happy here. It's great to be in a place where they want you and I'm happy. I can't wait to play!!!"

"The whole league knows that this is the best fan base in the NBA. It's always tough coming in here and trying to get a win. I'm excited to be here now and be a part of that."

And...

Reporter: What about the option? Are you staying?

Cuttino: I'm happy here. I'm real happy to be with the team. I love it here! I can't give you guys too much, but I'm real happy here.

More Cuttino - I'm just gonna do what I do. I can score and I can play a little bit of d. Not like Doug, because Doug's really good. But I'm gonna like it here. (All that said with a big smile and dancing eyes. I think he just realized he's come pretty close to the promsied land. )

Great to hear the whole league knows Kings have the best fan base!!! I'm also glad Cuttino is happy too. Can't wait to see him play this Saturday.

I didn't see the interview, but from the transcript, looks like either he was overcome with happiness, dreaming of dancing on big puffy clouds full of fun things, or that he came into the interview determined to appear enthusiastic about playing for the Kings.

Heres a pic of Mobley and Bibby chillin

I don't know. People talk a lot when You put a microphone in front of their face.
What did You guys expect Mobley to say ? Let's see how he does on the court.

Also, he is going to opt out - You can bet on that.

If I gave the wrong impression, I'm sorry. It wasn't actually a transcript. I didn't tape it. I typed his comments as he made them into the PBP thread. I compressed things because I had to. I'm good but I only type about 110 words a minute so I know I missed some stuff between his comments and the questions the reporters were asking.

He looked genuinely happy to be sitting there with Bibby, Bobby and Bradley - watching his new team play a good game short-handed and listening to the very appreciative crowd. Who wouldn't get pumped up by that kind of thing?

I think the media has been unfair in making it sound like he was going to come here bitter and angry. If anything, Stevie Franchise has blown things out of proportion. Cuttino is nobody's fool. He knows the Kings play the kind of ball where he will excel.

Good to know Cat is excited!!

He must be really happy because he used the word "Happy" enormous time.

As for his attire, not bad at all. ^_^

He recieved a real nice roar from the Arco faithful...and really seemed to enjoy it. The camera goes to Bobby then Mike and they're like, no biggie, but then they announce "And newest member of the Kings, Cuttino Mobely, " and he was like ":D "

We may not win every game, we may never win a championship, but as Kings fans we can say we have to two best smiles in the NBA with Webb and Cuttino :p :)

this aint no time to say "never." ;)

now is the time to get excited about this kings team. if the cat meshes well with the rest of the team, things could get very interesting. the rest of the league can count us out if they want to, but us fans should know better. we're coming.....and after tonight's game, i see that we're hungry again, as well. i hadnt seen that fire in peja and chris in a while. those two guys (TOGETHER---no more of this peja vs chris crap), are gonna lead this team to great heights, and we have discovered a great supporting cast to surround them with. its time to believe again, kings fans. this game is more indicative of the heart of this team than most would give it credit for.

They did a clip of Cuttino's interview again on the radio. Here's a bit more that VF miss:

He said he from talking with ex-Kings, Sac is a great place. Lots of great Kings players (Webb, Bibby, Brad, Pedja). Whole town behind you and great fans. Having lots of fun in Sac...hopefully Saturday he'll play. Lots of love in this arena so it's always tough for opponents that's why Kings always kick Rockets butt when he was still in the Rockets. Hehe. Hope he's the missing piece to help the Kings over the hump and win a Champ. Respect and admire Doug a lot. Can't be Doug, can only be himself. Don't know if he'll practice tomorrow. He's going to wear #3 because of Steve Francis. And say he can't wait to play!! :D

piksi - What do you want to bet?

Oh, I would say the odds are very good he's going to opt ouot. Its just a question of wherther he's going to opt out wanting to go elsewhere, or whether he's going to opt out just looking for a bigger contract for us. I think the latter is far more likely barring some major problem in the next few months.

And I'll just consider that he'll like it so much here and fit in so well that he and the Kings will come to some kind of agreement...

Besides, don't you think he's heard of that "Maloof premium?" He sure was chatting it up with Mike Bibby and I'm sure he's had a chat with Webb and Brad too ;)

And he said he was talking to "Gavin and his brother" - so he doesn't know Joe all that well yet. :D

Ah, but he will. He is 30 years old, he will opt out. He will be in a position, especially if he plays well (which he would have to do for us to even want to keep him) to go for what may well be his final contract, or at least, the last of his really lucrative ones. I don't think how well he likes it here, etc. will enter into his decision. Perhaps he will hope the Kings are the ones to extend him that offer, but if they aren't, he will be gone.

That said, he DID look very happy to be here, sitting on the sidelines, very appreciative of the ARCO welcome he got.

Heres the deal. He's closer to a championship with this team, but on an individual level he is losing attempts at the basket and stats. Overall I think he's quite happy to be a King.

Yup, he's definately styling. :D

From VF21 transcript, it seems that he is genuinely elated to be on a high- calber team like this which is all about fun and brotherly love. Great atmosphere, great fans and great organization altogether, what's not to like?

His choice of destination if he opts out will be severely limited by available cap space. Doubt there will be an ideal spot for him out there. Not sure about everybody's cap room, but most team's with a lot a)want to spend it on a superstar; and b) suck. At age 30 its probable that he's beginning to think in terms of winning. Be his last big contract, so stats won't really matter. And he's not going to want to go somewhere where he's going to lose 50-60 games every year.

So what does all that mean? If we want him + are willing to pay something around what we've been paying Doug, we have a real good shot at resigning Cat. As long as there are no problems between now and the end of the season, the only thing really preventing may be the Maloofs geting stingy.
