I would suggest reviewing the 1997 and 1998 NBA championship, and WC play offs before disregarding Tag as strong center.
It is 2005 now right? I hope you are not making a case for him being a strong center now?!? If so, why didn't anyone else want him this summer? Including the Jazz who don't have anything at the center position now that I am aware of...
Disregarding that, 97-98 was in the era (the very end of that era) in which there were still some centers that played with their back to the basket in this league. Not many, and certainly not in the finals of those years. There were also many other big unskilled oafs in the league that were in there to foul and rebound that you could put Tag on. Tag could be somewhat useful in that instance since he was (and is) also a big oaf for the most part. Nowadays, how many centers are there in the league? Out of that number, how many get more than 2 or 3 post-up opportunities down low per night? Because that is where is strength lies. That and somewhat rebounding and shotblocking. Now a lot of the centers in the league are really just power forwards playing down low. They are too quick for him.
Tonight against the Mavs for example, who does Tag guard? Sure, put him in when Bradley is in the game...they cancel each other out. Who else? Henderson?
I'm agreeing that, at this point, he should get some run due to injuries...but no more than 10-15 minutes (heck, he only averages ~20 minutes per game for his career anyways). That should also be the case if everyone gets healthy *when the matchups make sense*. Bradley, Shaq, Yao, Duncan, (there will never be another list in the history of mankind that places Bradley's name anywhere near the other three in that list) we should probably have Tag take 10 minutes or so against these guys just to throw another body at them...but that's it.
Maybe I am so down on Tag because I took pride in the fact taht the Kings always had 5 guys on the floor that were skilled players. They could all shoot/dribble/pass etc. And to think that we have fallen so far that we are now crying out for a player that I watched in warmups @ Dallas miss 90% of the shots he took (including layups and freethrows, short hooks, etc) is just sad to me.
But don't let me rain on everyone else's GO parade...
