Great Article/clips on Hawes (merged)

Thanks. He looks very promising. Better moves than Brad. As a scoring threat from the inside, teams won't be able to pressure the wings.
 
Washington fans say this kid is already better than Andrew Bynum? (Heard it from Grant and Mike this afternoon).

Anyone got a comparison on this kid that isn't Brad, Vlade, or any mediocre white guy (don't mean to offend). A positive one smacking of potential, just to put it into perspective.

I think he has an offensive catalog like Duncan did when he came into the league.

He's not going to be better than Bynum... Bynum's being trained by Kareem. Bynum has athleticism. Bynum has more height.

He's a lot like a shorter Rik Smits IMO. Maybe a Rik Smits/Vlade hybrid.

Sure but he is lacking in other areas that made Duncan the #1 pick and eventually arguably the best PF of all time.

Now, what I don't understand is why to people put down this kid?! If he actually gets to be as good as Vlade in his prime I think we would have done a GREAT job of picking him up. Good Cs are very hard to find. Sure he has some areas of his game to work on but seriously, who doesn't when they are picked at 10?

Dude theirs no way u can compare Andrew Bynum and Hawes. Bynum is more athletic, has a longer wingspan and has more potential. He may have a better post game but thats probably it.

And i think the brad, vlade and mihm comparisons are pretty good comparisons. Look at Mihm. http://www.nbadraft.net/profiles/chrismihm.htm Scouting reports displayed him as a good post player and one of the top centers in college at the time. Now look. Not saying he's gonna be the same but its a very good comparison.
 
Mihm's a better athlete, Hawes actually has the more sophisticated post game. There are similarities though.


BTW, as to the query above, the ultra-high end pie in the sky put down the bowl comparison is Kevin McHale. Now, McHale would have schooled this kid on both ends of the court. And the both ends of the court part is importnat, because the pie in the sky nature of the comparison is that McHale was one fo the best defensive PFs of all time. Hawes...is not. that being the problem. But offensively at least, that is the hope. Vlade was "clever", and that was neat. But he was at best a 15ppg support player. Brad...well no team with Brad as its center was going to win a title. Weak in all the ways you can't be weak. But McHale...that would have to be the aspiration. Just dominate in the post wiht every post move known to man. Teh real trick being though that while that might be on the outer boundaries of possible, maybe, in a perfect world. The part that made McHale a champion and HOFer was that defensive ability. And there Hawes is...well, not going to measure up. Nonetheless, you wanted the highest end, that would be it.
 
Well that is at least a little encouraging. So we're talking, like, a really great #2 to a Bird type guy.

If only we could find Larry Bird the 2nd.:D

How can you make the assumptions. you are comparing Mchale and Vlade in their primes to a 19 year old kid that played 1 year of college. If you could go 6 years down the road and see what Hawes does then that would be different. Instead the ONLY fair comparison is to compare Mchales freshman yeat to Hawes right now. I wonder what the report was on McHale as a freshman.

Martin "hovered" there for about two months, and missed by a mile. As do most at that. Its a made up stat anyway, but Nash was right there (may have made ), Reggie threatedned it nuymerous times etc.

As I mentioned in another thread if you could somehow come up with a true superstar to knock Kevin down to a #2 ala Rip Hamilton and Hawes to a #3 ala Big Z maybe you would have something. So all we have to do is just go out and materialize an insto-superstar at PG, SF, or PF. So no problem. We shall soon be set (although I suppose if we get it right this year, are really bad, get lucky in the draft next year, we could acquire sucha beastie).

Brick I am not saying Hawes will be great or anything. But to assume that he isn't is quite ingnorant don't you think. I mean you are comparing him to Mchale in his prime and not comparing him to really the ONLY thing you can compare him to which would be Mchale's freshman year at Minnesota. Kevin Mchale averaged 2 more rebounds for his ENTIRE college careet than Hawes did his freshman year. Now once again I am not saying Hawes will EVER be as good as Mchale was but, you can't give a justified comparison when you are comparing Mchale at 26-30 years old to a 19 year old that hasn't played 1 game yet. Its not fair to him. Now the only true comparison once again is to compare Mchale's freshman year in college and you have neglected to do so because you know as well as I do that Hawes >> than Mchale in that category.

I think you also need to take into account the opposition McHale and Hawes faced in college. I am not saying that Hawes will be a bust nor am I saying that he will be this great white hope but when we are analyzing these things then we need to consider many factors not only stats at same age.

I agree with you. All I am trying to say is for ppl not to go ahead an consider him a bust.
