Gray makes room for Bhullar?

Bhullar is only somewhat more mobile than Mount Rushmore. As others have said, maybe he drops a ton of weight in the D-League or Europe before making a real run at the NBA. Summer league may be rough for him. The NBA isn't going to happen, at least, this year.

You and others are continuing to overlook the potential marketing aspects of Sim Bhullar, THE FIRST INDIAN PLAYER in the NBA, and on a team owned by an Indian. I strongly suspect Vivek will do everything he can to help Sim get into shape to play at least a few minutes at a time, thus putting an Indian face on the Kings franchise for the biggest new market in the history of the sport.

And I reiterate shame on Vivek if he does. It doesn't help Sim's career and he isn't at a point where he can contribute anything to the team, even as a big body in practice. He has size and he has marketing potential. The best possibility would be to put him in the Dleague and try to see if he can develop his body and game to play in the NBA.

Just throwing him out there to me would be as much of a PR stunt as trotting out a disabled person or female player just for the sake of the novelty. Hopefully we are better than that.

The Mav's selected Wang Zhizhi in 1999 and he was the first Chinese player in America. He was possibly more ready for the NBA than Sim but that wasn't saying much and he still sucked. There was no major PR boost or dramatic impact to the team. True, the Mavs weren't owned by someone Chinese but honestly, I'd personally be disappointed if we took what was a legit expansion into India through televised games, Bollywood night, etc and muddied it up with roster decisions.

can he move ? or is he a worst project then roy hibbert was coming into college

sdballer - You're reading something into my post that simply is not there. I'm saying Vivek is almost assuredly going to do whatever he can to help Sim get to a point where he can be a productive player from the end of the bench because of a variety of reasons. The dude is freaking 7'5" (with or without shoes? ;) ) tall! You don't get many opportunities at a player like that. He does have a jumpshot. In addition to the POTENTIAL (admittedly not NBA worthy at this point), there are the other considerations. That's why I specifically said, "I strongly suspect Vivek will do everything he can to help Sim get into shape to play at least a few minutes at a time, thus putting an Indian face on the Kings franchise for the biggest new market in the history of the sport."

I get it. I'm assuming that's the primary reason Bhullar will stick through the end of pre-season and they will try to persuade him to to play in Reno instead of going overseas.

I've seen a few of Bhullar's games. He makes late career Randy Breuer seem mobile. Even if he dropped 40 pounds, it's really unclear whether he can change ends of the court in a game played at moderate pace.

Q: What's the difference between Sim Bhullar and Eddie Gaedel?

A: Eddie Gaedel was supposed to walk.

OK, you've seen him play a few times. Few in, as how many? I've seen him play as well, and it wasn't easy since New Mexico St. wasn't on TV that many times. I'm curious, since there are so many experts out there on what he can and can't do, all those that have actually seen him play raise their hands. .........................I'm waiting....................................Not a lot of hands. How many of you know that he has a younger brother named Tanveer who plays for the same team? I use the word played loosely, because he was a freshman last season and I don't believe he ever got on the floor. Not unusual when you have 3 or 4 upper classmen ahead of you. His brother is 7'3"and weighs 330 pounds. How many of you know that Sim played in the Americas U-18 games for Canada and came off the bench in a loss to the US team and scored 28 points, grabbed 31 rebounds, and blocked 13 shots? Amazing for a guy playing against the best the US had to offer in that age group that's not able to go from one end of the court to the other.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that this kid is the next coming of Yao Ming. I'm not saying that he's even going to become an NBA player. But to just write him off is pure nonsense. He's not unskilled and he didn't just start playing basketball a week ago. What he is, is still overweight and far from being in NBA shape. What he also is, as VF21 pointed out, is Indian, as is our owner. So he does have some PR value, if, and its a big if, he can actually become a contributing NBA player. To my mind, that's what this exercise is all about. If in the end, the Kings brain trust thinks that they see an NBA career in Sim's future, then I won't be surprised to see him land the 15th spot on the roster and then spend the entire year in the D-League.

Why sign him and not just put him on our D-League team? Because unless you sign him, you have no control over him. Any team interested could sign him off our team. The idea that signing him to the last roster spot would be some sort of disaster is a bit of an exaggeration I think. If memory serves, we went most of last season without even filling that spot. Just about every team in the league used that spot for guys that wern't even going to sniff the floor in an NBA arena. If he happens to develop sooner than later, you can always bring him up to the parent club, and if he doesn't develop at all, you cut him. Not a big loss or inconvenience one way or the other. So I guess what I'm saying, in short, is that its much ado about nothing. Unless of course that nothing turns out to be something.

No disagreement on any of this and for the record, I've seen him quite a bit. My wife's family live close to the school so we watched them play on tv and in person.

If your 15th man can make money (from India) for you while sucking that's a good thing, it's not like the 15th man on the roster will help us anyway. Rather have a money maker who can't play than a guy who does nothing makes you no money and sits on the bench.

kings.com has some video of him in training camp. Gotta say he looks really slow for a video that is supposed to showcase him. It is pretty amazing how he can lay the ball in with a tiny hop. He backed down Acy in the post pretty easy and made a little hook, which is a shot he could get all day if he can get in position.

He seems to have some skill, the thing for him will be to shed a ton of weight, I doubt he can play for more than 3 or 4 minutes at a time with his current fitness. If he shows something keep him as a D-League project and see where it goes from there.

The thing is that we won't need him to play in more than 4 or 5 minute stretches because Demarcus is ideally going to be playing 36 or 38 minutes a night.

I personally approve Bhullar on that last roster spot instead of letting him go straight to D-League.

I just missed the era of slumbering big bodies running down the court. :p
He should be able to grind 2-3 minutes per game in his rookie season.

That is one humongous body that could set really mean pick on a couple really nice set plays.
Not to mention we already have DMC who looked puny next to him.

You set a double pick with Sim and DMC for a Stauskas 3... dang that could be like an automatic unguarded shot. :p

Hmm.. #10 and #55 back on the Kings?

Right???
3: Gerald Wallace + Ray McCallum
5: Hedo Turkoglu + Quincy Acy
7: Keon Clark + Jimmer Fredette
9: Damon Jones + Jared Cunningham
10: Mike Bibby + Nik Stauskas
13: Doug Christie + Derrick Williams (Tyreke Evans)
16: Peja Stojakovic + Ben McLemore
22: Jim Jackson + Isaiah Thomas
24: Bobby Jackson + Carl Landry
25: Nick Anderson + Travis Outlaw
34: Corliss Williamson + Jason Thompson
...
55: j.will + bhullar

I caught almost all of the Gonzaga game, WAC final, and San Diego State. I did not see his games last season against Arizona or two match-ups with New Mexico, but he averaged just 6 points in those three games against athletic opponents.

I think we all agree that his current conditioning is a problem. He's a skilled and smart player. Again, even if you peel the weight off him, his speed and quickness are a major issue. 15 years ago, I'd take a 2nd round flyer on this guy. There is just so much speed in today's game. Even in shape, I just think he really has an issue changing ends. He makes Kelly Olynyk look like Usain Bolt. For a team that has issues with transition defense, his offense would have to be exceptional to play him.

The other question mark is his rebounding. He was very good in college and standing at 7'5'' he's going to secure most of the balls in his area. But again, with his glacial pace, it remains unclear whether he can cover enough ground to be a good NBA rebounder.

He's a smart and skilled player. I could very well be wrong. You've seen more than most. But if other fans have only seen the highlights of this player, summer league could be an eye opener.

Sim would be good in late game situations when there is less than 24 seconds on the game clock and you need one last stop.

Coach Malone would call a time out and put Sim in the game to protect the paint, just make sure no 3 second violation.

Sim needs to protect the paint for 24 seconds and the Kings win the game. I think he would be able to handle that. It would force teams into jump shots late in games.

I'm sure he has lost a bit, but think it's just the angle there. He was way, way more to lose before he can even step onto an NBA floor.

I have seen him a couple times last year, and have seen a lot of game footage on youtube and the one thing I see which is a huge problem is that he cannot get back on D fast enough. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. I don't think he will make it to the final roster when the season begins. If he does and I am wrong then it will be a last man on the bench role here and will probably be back and forth from Reno to Sac.

I just think the NBA game is too fast for that type of big body to flourish.

Be our end of the quarter/game specialist. :)

I think he said he lost 40 pounds throughout the year.

It's just a product of his build he is never going to give you 25 minutes IMO.
