Fond farewell: This is the final column, my last story for The Bee, period, no semicolon. There are many reasons, but nothing dramatic, nothing to fashion into a headline. Not at all. There have been times when the boss could have, should have, called me in and said, well, now you have gone too far, get out, you're fired. And there have been times when I could have, should have, quit. Absolutely. But none of those fond memories explain why this is the final column. The column and job are ending not because of contract disputes, audience disinterest, phony expense receipts, stress, insubordination, negligence, medical issues, goal tending or flight to avoid prosecution. No. It's ending because the time is right. The newspaper trade is changing. The way people share information is changing. The Bee is changing. Why not change with them? Why not start a business and find new ways to share information? I slide into a new challenge -- helping organizations communicate -- inspired by lessons from an ancient craft. ...
