Don't Make Me Use The Bat
So that didn't happen.

This is what you call a schedule loss. You knew it had every chance to be bad. It was.

Rondo, Willie and a welcome Marco sighting gave an effort. Cuz had absolutely nothing. Always a fear on a back to back with him. Doubled and trebled with Rudy begging out (hey Rudy, ever hear of googles? we needed the body) on the night after a double OT 56pt game. Would have been better just to give him the night off as it turned out. The alarming thing is of late how completely squalling infant in a wolf den helpless our guys have looked when Cousins isn't on the floor for whatever reason, including tonight when he both was and wasn't. They look like they have absolutely no idea how to get points without the big guy drawing all the attention, and the offense just quits.

Critical few games coming up. beginning to run short of the winnable ones before our rough streak ensues. We need to hold onto the #8 until we lose it in a blizzard of Spurs and Cavs games.

Hey, I have a thought given the suckiness -- PRETTY GIRLS!

Stats: 24min 10pts (4-7, 2-4, 0-2) 8reb 0ast 0stl 0blk 0TO
Summary: numbers are so so, game was even more drab and impactless than that

Casspi ( C ) -- gave us no push at all in the early going, and it has begun to occur to me that Omri's big impact month happened when he was playing smallball PF in place of Willie. Since shifting back to SF he hasn't felt dynamic, and I am wondering a bit if its because SFs are better able to smother his threes and chase him around. In any case did little. Got fouled once leaking out on the break, but hen promptly missed 2 FTs. There was a little burst in the early third, hit a three, made a good hustle save. But the numbers here are deceptive. This was impact free from the beginning as only Rajon and Willie really seemed to bring their games amongst the starters.

Stats: 30min 12pts (5-8, 0-0, 2-2) 7reb 1ast 1stl 4blk 0TO
Summary: brought good energy on the 2nd night of the back to back, ran the floor for dunks and oops. Ah, young legs

Cauley Stein ( A- ) -- started off the game running the floor and taking Rondo passes for oops and dunks Bels would feed him fro another one late in the quarter, and it was an 8pt quarter, with a saving block on Lillard too. Had another one of his spectacular Willie only plays when he helped Cuz with a block on defense, then raced full court the other way for a flying dunk late in the half, Another great defensive job staying with McCollum and blocking him at the rim. Eventually impact faded after half as we went away, but its really too bad this game had to be wasted, because it was a good one from Willie.

Charlotte Le Bon

Stats: 32min 17pts (4-21, 0-2, 9-17) 5reb 4ast 0stl 0blk 2TO
Summary: absolutely 100% spent. There was some effort for a while, no legs, touch, and got his arm hurt after half.

Cousins ( F ) -- there's very little to say here. As on, relentless, and dominating as he was the night before vs. Charlotte...this time out he just did not have it. There was some attempt to have it. I think being in a playoff chase there wasn't that sense of him not wanting to be out there that you sometimes have gotten from him in fatigue games in the past. But he didn't have ti. Even when he executed the same moves and got into the same positions, the shots all bounced and rolled out, from everywhere. And there definitely was no energy on the boards. This was paying double for the Charlotte loss, and now we're back to a tie for the 8th seed with a team with no right to be tied with us. Back to work.

Sanaa Latham

Stats: 21min 4pts (2-5, 0-1, 0-2) 4reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 0TO
Summary: thanks Ben, your complete inability to rise to the occasion has been noted

McLemore ( D- ) -- for all that we got from Ben you would have thought HE played 50 minutes and took 30 shots the other night. Instead on a night when we desperately needed a wing, any wing, to step up and bring some offense, he gave us his standard pumpkin day 4. He started off the night missing a wide open three from Cuz that we could have used for some energy, then he missed a layup on a tough leak out attempt. Think he went to the bench for the first time with 0pts, and thanks for the effort. Finally hit a shot in the third, then got to the line...and bricked both FTs because suddenly he's turned shaky from the line for some reason (he's at 71% this season after being an 81% shooter his first two years). missed the wide open corner three from Cuz. Last score was finishing a nice assist from Rondo right at the rim. Has very saavily worked himself into a position where its almost impossible for him to produce so little he gets an F. That's 32 of 45 games this season where he's been in single figures.

Tina Aumont

Stats: 31min 15pts (7-16, 1-4, 0-0) 5reb 11ast 1stl 0blk 5TO
Summary: deserves some grade here, because Rajon was the guy who most clearly tried to step up and lead in this situation

Rondo ( B+ ) -- really and obviously tried in the early going here, immediately not only finding WCS out and running on multiple plays, but adding in a series of very aggressive drives. Not all of those went, because this is Rajon Rondo we are talking about, but the intent was obvious. Omir and Ben did nothing, Cuz was spent, so Rondo tried hard to singlehandedly get the team going and give us a jumpstart. Even added a three at the end of the quarter, and had 9pts by the end of the first. But there just wasn't enough help, and the longer the game went on, the less you felt Rondo's presence either. Still, coming into the game you knew we needed somebody to step forward. Rondo tried to be that guy.

Stats: 26min 14pts (4-8, 2-4, 4-4) 3reb 4ast 1stl 0blk 1TO
Belinelli ( B ) -- along with Rondo and WCS, the third guy to give us a little push. Not nearly enough, but it was a relief to see him finally hit some shots. We're going to need him if we want to get some momentum going again. Started off the game with some nice passes setting up our bigs for dunks, but began to get a little scoring going too, scoring on a tough fallaway in the lane, then a feet set three in the corner. He added another three in the late third. The offense felt less forced this time, and maybe why we got better results. It wasn't an explosion, but he did his part. Just not enough firepower joined him.

Stats: 18min 2pts (1-4, 0-1, 0-0) 2reb 3ast 0stl 1blk 0TO
Anderson ( B- ) -- really gave us pretty good minutes, as you judge James Anderson minutes. Was doing a nice job moving the ball, and had a nice drive and dump to Acy for a dunk. Added a nice drive and finish of his own in the early 4th. This was another player not making our predicament worse, but the bothersome thing is how all of that did not matter without Cuz going for 30-10 .

Stats: 16min 6pts (3-5, 0-0, 0-0) 2reb 0ast 1stl 0blk 0TO
Koufos ( B- ) -- rather more solid than anything else as Beli repeatedly set him up for little dunks and finishes. Board numbers were low, but felt like he was solid inside, challenging and chasing. Just not dynamic enough to effect outcomes, but did not make it worse.

Stats: 17min 4pts (2-4, 0-0, 0-0) 6reb 1ast 1stl 0blk 1TO
Acy ( INC ) -- got an early dunk on an Anderson drop pass late in the first, but not terribly effective before the garbage minutes

Stats: 21min 6pts (2-4, 1-1, 1-2) 2reb 1ast 1stl 0blk 3TO
Collison ( D ) -- one of the things that has happened yo our non-Cuz offense is that DC no longer feels potent, even in a wild way, off the bench. Again here he jsut did not matter, and took a couple of hard fouls (one at least uncalled) for his trouble. Hard to win with no production from your #1 scorer, #2 scorer, and 6th man.

Stats: 7min 7pts (2-4, 1-2, 2-3) 1reb 0ast 1stl 0blk 1TO
Curry ( INC ) -- just in for the extended garbagetime minutes, which I frankly did not watch

ehh on to the next one...even the almighty Warriors lost on a back to back after a 2 OT game the day before

Hey, I have a thought given the suckiness -- PRETTY GIRLS!

placeholder...
I know when I am watching a game where Boogie is absent, the whole team becomes or appears lost. Perhaps it is. A tired Boogie still requires a double team which shifts how the opponent plays. I wish Rudy or anyone was capable of a 30 pt game with a lot coming from beyond the arc. We need someone who can shoot better than what we have. (I thought Marco was the guy) I think people are hoping Curry can be that but he is getting a lot of reputation flow over from his brother. He may be very good in a few years but not this year.

Ah, well, props to Vlade for giving us a team. Now he has a year or two to make the necessary tweaks. We have three and maybe even 4 great players with the big dog being one of the best in the league How many teams have 4 and I am counting Rudy as #4? Just put some other pieces in place. It may take a little trial and error.

I almost didn't watch this game. Too bad I didn't follow through. Oh, Karl will not play inexperienced player usually called rookies. That means Curry and Ben. Ben is very much like a rookie. Karl doesn't like rookie mistakes; his words and not mine. The fact WCS is playing as much as he is means to me he is a very special player. I kinda knew that a few years ago watching Kentucky but I think the pro game suits him better than college.

Bring on the girls.

Sorry folks but I had to do a mental reboot. Perhaps I am missing something but don't we have the most difficult pieces to find in Cuz, WCS, and Rondo. Throw in Rudy for good measure. Isn't this a good start for a team that could go deep into the playoffs some year? In my mind we have nailed the best center and best defensive big. Call him a center also but you know what I mean. We don't have the best pg but we may have the best pg for this team. I wish Rudy had a reliable three pt shot but as #4, he's pretty damn good. I have a lot of hope in the next few years.

I thought Marco did decently well. A lot of Koufos' buckets came on good setups from Marco.
I just can't overlook his defense it's like whoever he's guarding gets a buff where the chance of there shot going in increases by 75%. Henderson as soon as Marco switched on him was screaming for the ball and abusing him. It's between him and Kantar for worst defender.

Marco is weird. He passes up open shots with that unnecessary fake, and then takes difficult shots. He really needs to stop passing up wide open looks.

I turned this off a couple mins into the last quarter as it was fugly, but this is a common thing with him.

Agree, team should have rested Cuz. Defense would have been better and a Cuzz-less offense wouldn't have lost as badly. A rested Cuz would be recharged for the next ones.

That's a much easier sell if the team had won the 2OT game the night before. Then even with a loss Portland stays a half game back in the standings. But coming off a loss with the Blazers having a chance to get into a tie with the Kings for the 8th spot it's pretty hard to tell a guy who has been absolutely dominant this month to take a night off and watch from the bench with Rudy while the team likely gives up a loss.

In hindsight, obviously Cuz wasn't going to take them to a win last night. But I doubt that he would have conceded that before tip-off.

The entire team has started passing up shots and doing that weird upper-body fake move, then slowly put the ball on the floor and make a weak drive to the basket like it's an epidemic.
It's driving me crazy watching the game. I'm sitting there, calling it out every other possession, sometimes twice in a possession.

Who taught them to play basketball like that?
Is it their attempt at the "dribble-drive offense"?
Because all of their first-steps are WAY too slow to take any advantage of it - the only thing they are accomplishing is wasting shotclock time, and giving up whatever positional advantage they had by the guy who passed him the ball.
