Peja ( A- ) -- boy the shot was really on tonight. But more than just the shot -- Peja also (*gasp*) was helping on the boards, made some solid passes to set up teammates, and looked involved and assertive from the last minute of the 1st quarter inward. This was a strong night in all respects, rather than one where you have to make excuses for something he wasn't doing. Faded a bit late (on both the boards and offense) to get the minus.
Webber ( A- ) -- strong all around game from Webber, but with slop around the edges. Looked lively out there -- a good knee game + maybe taking the night off last game helped. Was active on defense, and good on the boards, putting those great hands on display repeatedly. Made some great passes, and a couple of great ALMOST passes (including one would be spectacular spin pass on the break to Peja). But therein was the first part of the slop -- too many turnovers, although most were near miss passes. Scored on a variety of nifty inside moves, but the other part of the slop was that his outside shot looked terrible. It was just all over the place, and never once on target. Hit some big shots late to help seal the deal.
Miller ( B ) -- interesting game by Brad. Looked uncommonly strong scoring inside...but the jumper was just off. Then was having all sorts of problems defensive rebounding -- doing that thing where everyone 6'5" or taller was just going right over him. But turned around on the other side of the court and saved our bacon in the 4th quarter with a whole string of strong offensive boards off of Kings misses. Annoyed me by wasting a lot of time arguing with the refs, on one notable occasion hitting the floor after NOT getting fouled, not running back down the court, and getting a technical for arguing a foul that never occurred. So giveth and taketh away, but in the end was an integral part of our closing surge to win it.
Christie ( B ) -- played a good game tonight with one exception. Got involved offensively early in the game, was setting up teammates all night long with his passes, and got his hands on a number of balls on defense. But the one exception was that he continues to be plagued by just awful, inexplicable, dumb turnovers where he'll miss somebody by 10ft with a pass and singlehandedly break our momentum. He's always been a litle sloppy, but in the last couple of weeks some of the turnovers have just left you scratching your head -- you're susposed to get older and WISER, not older and careless. Nonetheless, came to play tonight, and with Bobby out had to play a LOT. As an aside, it appears that Matt barnes may have in fact played himself out of the roataion with his recent slump as Doug got the backup SF minutes in the second quarter tonight.
Bibby ( A- ) -- very good all around game by Mike. For once, not only on the offensive side of the floor, where the shot looked pure for most of the night, but with a solid defensive effort on Gilbert Arenas. Arenas eventually began to bust free late, but Mike at least made him work for it and matched him bucket for bucket. Continues to have off and on struggles from the free throw stripe. Odd, especially on a night when his shots from the field looked so good.
BJax ( B- ) -- had a couple of good finishes, but looked uncomfortable from the perimeter in his second quarter stint. Was not stupid about it though, passed willingly, and played solidly if not spectacularly. Injured his wrist near the end of the quarter, and did not return to the game. Did not look serious, but obviously if he is out for any length of time our bench problems become acute.
Tag ( B- ) -- nothing spectacular here tonight, but a solid middle-clogging effort.
Songaila ( C ) -- grabbed a couple of aggressive boards. Also made a couple of bad turnovers, and never returned to the game in the second half.
Evans ( B- ) -- got a long second half stint because of Bobby's injury and didn't do much statistically. But what he did do was play solid defense, and his one statistical contribution was a spectacular alley oop that helped energize the arena in the 4th. Did not hurt us.

Adelman ( A- ) -- not sure what to say. Everything looked good tonight EXCEPT us throwing the ball aall over the arena. After leading the league in fewest turnoves through our first 15 games or so, ever since the Minnesoata game we have just been making bad turnovers all over the court. And you can see from Rick's animation on the sidelines that that pisses him off perhaps more than anything else. Take away the turnovers though and we passed well, shot well, even rebounded pretty well. With Bobby hurt, Rick went with Maurice Evans in the second half who was solid. Overall bench priduction was anemic though -- 6 total points, and all 5 of our starters had to go at least 38min. They were all playing well, but obviously we cannot sustain that pace minutewise.

Team score: C
No team gets more than a C with 17 turnovers, most of them unforced!
I disagree. When you beat a quality opponent by double digits you should get a higher grade then that. I would give them a B.

Since when are the Wizards a quality opponent? They don't suck like last year for sure, but I'm not ready to call them a quality opponent.

While it would be nice if we could be perfect every night, that's not realistic.

here's some other numbers:

Finals score:
KINGS -- 104
WASH -- 93

FG% -- .519
Assists -- 27
Turnovers Forced -- 20
Rebounds:
KINGS -- 39
WASH -- 38

We only did one thing wrong tonight. Otherwise a very strong effort. Not an A game, but hardly a C either.

14-9 (before tonight) 4th in the East. Beat the Lakers on their home floor a few nights ago. Not elite, but if the Lakers are a quality opponent, so are the Wiz.

Good game, good grades.

Washington is not a bad team at all. This was the first time I saw them this year and until now I thought their record was bogus. I guess not. Still, this was a game that Kings should win easily and they won it without having to play spectacularly well.

Evans did well in non-garbage time situation. I thought he made most of his garbage time opportunity against NO and I think Rick thought the same. Otherwise, it could have been 7 minutes for Barnes tonight.

ok, first off.... songaila is still sick with the flu, i wouldnt hold to much against him. though a C for him was fair in this game. him being sick is highly justified. he worked his arse off in the last game not feeling well, but it probably got he best of him tonight.

i would give the team grade a B, because we were able to throw it down and still win by double digits without the use of bobby in the second half. not to mention with lousy unforced turnovers. good win tonight overall!

Usurper!!!

I get to give the team grade. Ask anyone...

MY TEAM GRADE: A-.

Despite fumble fingers, they got the job done. When you have four starters in double digits and three of those over 20 (with Brad coming real close at 19), you have a very good team effort. In addition, the defensive effort was GOOD tonight, with even Bibby and Pedja getting pretty involved. I reward the positives and stand by the A-.

So there.

with evans' solid d 2night and smart play with the fact that he didnt do anything stupid like forced shoits and baad turnovers he could actually force him self into the rotation and force barnes out...

In Brad's defense, if you've got the replay on Tivo, go through it in slo-mo. They showed 2 different angles, and it did look like no foul, but it didn't make sense for Brad to look for the T the way he did. Slowed way down though, it seems as though the defenders hand was blocked out of camera view on *both* angles. At least he maintained himself enough to not get chucked out on a couple later plays.

I'll also speak in Brad's defense. Grant said there was defnitely a foul, that the new official missed it and that Brad drew the T because he wanted to make a point with the ref...

At another point in the game, the refs did not call a clear goal-tend on the Wiz. Grant reported that one of the veteran officials came over to the table at the break and confirmed with Grant that there had, in fact, been a missed call...

Just a couple of tidbits you wouldn't know if you didn't watch News10... ;)

I didn't see the game but those Webber's highlights on ESPN looked pretty sweet. Is it me, or did he really look more mobile in this game ?

Isn't he Vlade replacement? Not as good as original used to be, but he is doing his best.

He looked great tonight. Another reason not to mind him taking the occasional game off against the cellar dwellars. Plus, when the playoffs come, he'll have plenty of time to rest between games. I think this bodes well for the future...

That is so good to read! I don't expect perfection from him. Personally, I'm just happy he's back and producing!!!

Go Kings!!!
