When is Petrie going to learn that the offensive style of basketball doens't win championships? Teams need to be able to play good defense and rebound and at least be able to stop other teams for scoring at will.

It's the paradox of being a Kings fan. Look at Brad Miller to symbolize this team. When he's playing point center, distributing the ball so magnificiently on offense, knocking down the elbow jumper it's a great thing to watch. Then when he's getting abused on defense, not getting a single rebound it makes you want to throw up.

It seems to me that the two most expendable players from the starting lineup are Peja and Reef, but it isn't clear whether one is more expendable than the other.

I disagree, as I intimated in another post.

But, right now, the way the team is structured - I don't think any one player is "key". Any player could be changed with little to no overall effect.

Reef is pretty expendable. There is no question this team can survive and thrive without him. But, I think he and Bonzi seem to be the two cogs that are anchoring the wobbly ship... with Bibby deciding to join the crew (although I wonder how long until the shot fizzles a little?).

Our problem is NOT offense - it's defense. People need to realize that. If you watch the game, the only people putting a modicrum of effort in that area are Reef, Bonzi, (strangely enough) Bibby and ... two guys that can't sniff a minute of burn. The problem is Reef, Bonzi, Bibby just aren't really good defenders - depite the effort.

So, all night I kept asking ... why haven't we put Corliss in on someone? He's got more tenacity and won't give up these easy hoops. Where's Skinner? During the final minutes, I was thinking ... why is Brad Miller in when Skinner can be in playing some defense? Why aren't we playing the switch 'em up game with TOs?

Not to mention we have a PG that has gotten 10 assists in 5 games. Ouch.

That many ?

He was abused so badly by BD last night that even that number did not matter

The frustrating thing is that it really looked like the Kings had energy in that game. They were scoring pretty well and the pace of the game was up-tempo.

It's just that that energy wasn't translated on the defensive and rebounding side! Instead there were just enough really boneheaded plays to put us way down until it was too late and the team started trying.

I guess this is the sign of an inconsistent/young team. Fixing the problem just involves playing with your head a little bit more.

Bonzi is fun to watch though. I'm worried what will happen to us if he ever goes out for a few games though... he's certainly taken enough of a beating to warrant hurt pinky or two ;) Kidding!

you guys got it all wrong..... if it werent for the freethrows we would have won that game.

defense wins championships but offense sure as hell would have beaten the warriors..... didnt peja only have 9 points? the bench combined for 12, when bobby averaged like 13 by himself..... this bench has got to go..... we would have blown the warriors out with even a crappy bench like the lakers bench.... thats if we didnt shoot like 60% ft's.... thats horrible.....

So would a little defense.

I mean, how much better on offense do we need to do?

Over 100 Points? CHECK.
Over 45% As A Team? CHECK.
Under 15 TOs (our average and the league average)? CHECK.

Our offense was clicking. We couldn't get a stop. When we did, we gave up an Offensive Board (15 to be exact).

didnt peja only have 9 points?

Yes, but didn't Reef, Bibby and Bonzi all score 20+?

Combined the 3 of them shot 52%. I just don't see using those shots any other way as being more efficient.

True. The bench is weak, but a lot fo that's coaching. I can't figure out why the most talented bench players can't sniff minutes.

Of course - their bench wasn't exactly lighting it up -
4-15 for 12 points

Our bench -
5-14 for 12 points

if it werent for the freethrows we would have won that game.

Score was:
113 BAD GUYS
106 GOOD GUYS

If we hit 80% of our FTs we lose by 3.
If we hit 90% of our FTs we tie the game.

I don't see any team hitting 80-90% of their FTs consistantly.

We let the lteam score 47% of their shots (38% of their 3s). We let them grab 15 offensive rebounds. THAT'S THE BALLGAME.

How can you NOT respect everything this guy has done for us so far? :D I'd be really tempted to give him an A- simply because he refused to quit fighting...

I am really getting alot of respect for Bonzi. I never really followed him at all before.
When they did the closeup of his face after he got it bashed in. I could see that the bridge of his previously broken nose had been once again losened (there was dark discoloration) He had that look that you'd see after Mike Tyson hit a guy in the face with one of those loud punches. He was obviously dazed. BUT!! He played through it. The guy is a fighter.
I'm not sure that being a fighter is what makes a good NBA player or not. But in Bonzis' case all I can say is "what a stud" Maybe he should have peja move in with him for awhile. You can't teach toughness per-say. But , I think we need to do some kind of intervention! What better way to make a guys skin a lot thicker than putting him in a "surreal life" type situation with someone who would gladly dish up some UMM...to put it politely. Constructive criticisim......Just imagine Gary Coleman riding him for being a softy every day for 2 weeks..:p He might start to get the fact that in NBA play we do not need to say all our please and thank yous that take place in the euro leagues...(I picture Groucho coaching him in his younger years..."Thank you...No No thank you)

By the way where is that "free throw trainer"? I think we could use him again. He did a pretty good jod with Webb.

I may just let VF21 do my talking for me. Basically, everthing she has said is how I see things lately.

Bonzi makes my day. Tough guys like this are rare. He is in the same class as Karl Malone, John Stockton, and Doug Christy. Admirable company indeed.

Bibby is tough also. Even Kevin, who may be considered "thin" and almost childlike by some, is pretty tough. He does not inflict damage like Bonzi or Corliss, but he sure takes some righteous shots. He always gets up smiling. Am I the only guy that appreciates Corliss? He is another righteous tough guy.

I guess that I will just take these games one day at a time and try to enjoy the little things. Toughness, spirit, and personality.

Yea but I really dont like how Kevin approaches the game. He never seems be relaxed in offense or defense. Corliss and Skinner are just wasted talent on the bench and dont seem to fit with us. Im hoping and almost sure that Petrie is going to trade those 2 for someone who can really help us off the bench.
