Die like
Since I detest weenieism above all other things in life, I don't even feel bad about it. The harder working, tougher team with the bigger balls won it. Good. The way it should work in sports.
Boxscore
Stats: 38min 20pts (8-18, 2-6, 2-2) 5reb 0ast 0stl 1blk 0TO
Summary: had his moments offensively, but Wiggins badly outperformed him, and he did not fight ont he glass
Gay ( C ) -- started things off hitting a random 1 on 1 long straight three that had to pass for our offense as we started the game off flat as a board. Got finishes around the rim as he began accumulating points, but was getting his ass kicked by Wiggins on the other end, and along with Omri was providing next to no rebounding support as the Wolves swarmed the glass and won every hustle battle. Gave us our first lead of the game on a joke of a prayer heaved from 26ft away that went off glass, and had a tough 1 on 1 shot that is a bad shot for anybody but him to set us up regaining the lead late in the 4th. In the end though, inability to contend wiht Wiggins became the bigger story.
Stats: 35min 11pts (3-7, 3-5, 2-2) 4reb 0ast 1stl 0blk 2TO
Summary: hit his threes, but caught a bad case of the weenies on the glass and looked like a SF playing out of position against the big Wolves frontline
Casspi ( D+ ) -- Omri started off this one fumbling an interior pass from Rondo for a turnover, and his contribution to this one was largely restricted to hitting a trio of threes in the first three quarters. After one of them he got a smart steal reading an entry pass and sneaking in to steal it. But that was kind of it for defensive contributions as he joined several other Kings in stubbornly ball watching as Wolves ran the baseline behind him unimpeded, and his boardwork tonight was so bad it had a hand in us losing the game. The Wolves play big big and bigger on the frontline, Wiggins is an athletic freak, and Omri could handle neither and had all of 1 rebound through three quarters. Closed things on another downbeat note as he got beat by Wiggins at the 2 minute mark as the Wolves took the lead back,
Stats: 37min 24pts (11-25, 0-3, 2-3) 11reb 4ast 4stl 1blk 5TO
Summary: started out completely flat, and the rookie took it to him big time, but stabilized and restored order. Alone on the glass.
Cousins ( B- ) -- came out flat and was simply getting his ass kicked by Towns early as the kid was doing the message sending, not Cuz. Did get a couple of his steals up top. When he returned it was a different story though, he dialed in and stoned Towns on multiple possessions and took the ball from him. Started outrebounding him too, and took over. Dominated Gorgei too. In the final minutes of the half for the first time started the three point shot nonsense, and missed both. Started the third taking it to Towns on both ends. But began to get into with the whistles, and Towns fought back. Took a charge on towns with 8min to go in the 4th to get the rookie back on the bench, and would take another one on Wiggins in the final minutes. Not finishing in the 4th and so made the wise decision on his next drive to dish it to Koufos for the finish. An o-reb and finish in the final 3 minutes got us the lead back with a chance to win, and a good dunk delivered by Rondo on a slip screen play called from the timeout with 28 seconds to go, but not enough. Didn't get the line this time, and it made his night inefficient. On the other hand he was the only guy battling on the glass, and the welcome return of his disruptive steal and charge drawing game made a major impact for us. Not his best, but would have won this if he got a little help.
Stats: 25min 6pts (3-5, 0-1, 0-1) 1reb 1ast 2stl 0blk 1TO
Summary: did so little that I can clearly remember all his good plays. Tried him on Wiggins, and when that did not work, gave up.
McLemore ( C- ) -- early steal and open court give and go with Cousins was one of our few highlights of a fugly start. Added another transition hoop. After half not slowing Wiggins in the early 3rd, but made a nice drive +1 in response (missed the FT, and every little point mattered int eh close loss). And that was it. Along with our forwards, our guards were complete wussies on the glass, there was no physically or scrap, and they kept getting outhustled to every long board. Ben/Marco/Collison combined for 2 rebounds in 65 minutes. For their sakes I hope none of them ever get sent to prison.
Stats: 36min 11pts (4-8, 0-1, 3-4) 4reb 13ast 3stl 0blk 2TO
Summary: there were times when he controlled the game, but two big dumb erros in the last two minutes helped sink us..
Rondo ( B ) -- after we made Rubio look like a shooter early, Rajon began to control the game as the first quarter went along as perhaps the first King to truly fight back. Took a blow above the high and had to go to the lockerroom to get stitches. When he returned though was making remarkable passes again. Hit a well timed 3 in the mid third to hold us into it, but there was more bad than good down the stretch. Some of it was not his fault as Karl's nomral mindless twin-PG lineup caused us problems one more time as Rondo was simply too small to hold off Shabazz Mohammed. But there were also a pair of killer mistakes that you do not expect from the guy who is supposed to steady us in those situations at the 1:20 and 1:10 marks, the first a dumb foul on Wiggins that sent him tot he line to put us down 3 instead of down 1. Then 10 seconds later a killer offensive foul with 1:00 to go to give the ballback to the Wolves.
