I think your right about Gay not being the guy that can carry a team all by himself. And that's why Cuz makes a huge difference. With him in the game, less attention is paid to Gay, which helps free him up. It helps Willie get easy baskets when his man doubles down on Cuz. Karl's system allows the players on the floor a lot of freedom to create on the fly. Which means you need players that can make good decisions and play within themselves. Something I don't think McLemore is capable of right now. Last night, I thought we were out of sync for the most part, and perhaps we were trying too hard to make up for Cousins absence. Our perimeter defense, in the first quarter in particular was horrible. There were times when our ball movement was nonexistent. Everyone was trying to be a hero. In limited minutes, I think Curry is making a case to get some minutes that matter. Anderson, at least for one game, played better than McLemore has been playing. By the way, Stauskas put up 14 pts last night. Didn't shoot the ball particularly well, but overall played well and made some very nice passes. He appears to have the starting job locked up for now.

That same Sixers team might I add, is starting TJ McConnell at PG. This doesn't really mean anything but he is the one the Kings should of kept, no doubt. Come to think of it, I doubt the Sixers would of done that deal if you put Ben in place of Nik anyway.

Water under the bridge now. The very real problem was Nik face planted so hard last year that his nose looks like a professional boxer's now. He was completely miserable, so gave us no adequate basis for comparison. Back last summer I liked Nik better than Ben as a potential roleplayer out there with Cuz. But that didn't last through training camp, and there was no way you could go run off and trade Ben and say "yo! Scrawny 35% shooting white guy! Job's yours!" Hindsight is always 20/20, but there just was nothing to go on there.

I'm more curious what the offers for Ben were over the summer that Vlade kept on referencing, but I suspect Ben hasn't shown enough for them to be anything but lowball scrub + a 2nd type deals.

Everyone has to stop with the talk about Gay being "the guy" when Cousins is out. It actually doesn't do Gay any favors. If they just play team ball and Gay stops forcing it with the dribble, they have a much better chance. In sum, when Guy is "a guy" rather than "the guy" they are a better team, imo. Thanks for the info on Stauskas, I think...:po_O:(

I didn't get to watch this game but saw the highlights. Can someone explain how we could even up the score at 55 with about 7 mins to play in the 3rd and then go on to lose by a blow out score? Poor defense? turnovers? iso offense?

So one question...if Nik pans out for Philly or at the very least becomes "serviceable" and Ben is out of the league, would that in large be a part of the Kings' inability to develop their players?

It would in large part be because Nik was scared and gutless.

But being gutless isn't helped by complete organizational chaos in your first stop.

in any case I am so completely over this endless parade of "nice" scared little kids sucking their thumbs we have been parading through here. Next time we have a lottery pick I hope we pick a complete raving butthead. An egomaniacal jerk who walks right up on to the desk on signing day, drops trow, and drops his giant brass ones right out on the table to announce his presence. Nice guys absolutely DO finish last in highly competitive settings.

But what about Kevin Durant, Steph Curry & Anthony Davis? They did all right for themselves with their nice guy reputations.

Knight & Bledsoe did whatever they wanted...when they missed, the rebounds went Phoenix's way. End game.

So basically the D.

The usual...it's always been the D. Kings have had some good scoring teams over the past decade. They haven't played defense since the short stint with Malone and before that? You'd probably have to go back to Rick Adelman days.
