Grades v. Spurs 05/02

You know what? We played hard, showed a lot of heart, and lost. There's no shame in that. We're a good, mostly young team, and for the first time in a while I really feel like we're an up-and-comer. We're one athletic big and a backup PG away from being a contender again. 25+ teams in this league would kill to be in our shoes. We've given the #1 seeded, world champion, loaded Spurs more than a run for their money, and the series aint over yet. We've got lots of young talent, and lots of skilled vets. We've got a great, if not infallable coach. We have one of the best GM's in the business. The future is once again bright in Sacramento. I have to say it, even after a tough loss such as this:

I love this team, and I've got nothing but faith.

the secret to great cookies is to use unsalted butter, then the 1/4 tsp. of salt ends up being just right, and the cookies are creamier.

I actually LIKE a tad too much salt or baking soda to give just a little bite. Of course it can be taken too far. ;)

Giving Miller a D- is being too nice. He really deserves a big fat F. He's averaging 2.8 rebounds in this series. We need his rebounds. Getting 2 rebounds here, 2 rebounds there just doesn't cut it. It doesn't even look like he is putting much effort.

Show me some rebounding effort Miller and I'll give props to you. I've never been one for blaming players, in fact I've been supportive of all players, but Miller, PLEASE wake up for Game 6.

The real secret is to use shortening instead of butter. They come out fluffy, and not greasy.

And I agree on the little bit of extra salt.

Bricklayer - You can't be thinking of cookies. You have Adelman's grade yet to post.

;)

The Kings are one major trade from having the team we really want. I am so disgusted that I don't feel like being more specific.

I feel the same way as you, my man. The same exact feeling.

LOL trust me I am all for the salt for that extra ZING! but this was more then even I could handle. This is com'n from someone that has no problem with putting salt on the pizza or donuts!

I love it. Rather than being bummed-out and bad-mouthing certain players, you all are talking about cookies. Wow, cookies may be good for one's mental health. I am thinking reall hard about a bag of imported Swiss chocolates stashed in the kitchen cupboard.

i never use shortning alone, even in pastry crust. they may be creamier, but NOTHING replaces the flavor of butter.

plus shortning is hydrogenated, thats a BIG no no.

We came oh so close to pulling this one off, but in many ways all of our faults were on full display. The lack of shotblockers or defensive stalwarts inside. The lack of a backup PG.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The Spurs built their biggest lead when Bibby went out and they started going to the hole and finding no defense there.

It's like the whole team decided to "let Bonzi do it." As Jim Nabors would sing - send Miller, "Back Home To Indiana".

People are being pretty hard on Brad, but Bibby is also in the process of putting together back to back horrendous postseasons, and three out of the last four years.

Mike's also in his second consecutive season of playing long minutes in all but two games (I think that's how many he missed last year) and single handedly carrying the team for long stretches. Not an excuse by any means, but there's sure to be a correlation.

Well, he saved plenty of energy throughout the season on the defensive end.

Also, I know you know it's not an excuse because you said it's not an excuse, but no one says these types of things about players like Steve Nash or Kobe, who carry their respective teams to a much greater extent than Bibby. I know Bibby's been playing hurt, but three times out of four years is a trend, not an aberration.

I am having a real hard time understanding why Reef is only playing 13 minutes per game excluding game 2. Granted he has not played particularly good during his 13 minutes, but it is tough to get any sort of flow going when you play only 6 minute spurts. When S.A. goes small we do not have to match them.....by doing so we are dancing to their tune. Reef could dominate Horry on the post. And though he has not done much statistically, we always seem to either cut a deficit or extend a lead when he plays. Anyways, we need more out of him if we can hope to win this series.

On a side note...the Refs need to put away the whistle because T.D. is getting every call and it is getting a little ridiculous.

for the first bolded part, it better not be tough to get into a flow after six minutes of play for shareef. players have bad games, but when you're a veteran coming off the bench, you need to provide a spark, and it shouldn't take half a quarter to do it. that's why reef isn't seeing many minutes as the kings continue to small ball the **** outta the spurs, and rather effectively, excluding that 3 minute collapse at the end of last nights game when none of the kings could stop any spur from getting right to the rim.

as for the second bolded part, i agree. i try very hard not to let my kings fans bias do the talking when concerning the refs, but its getting hard to watch every king defend duncan straight up and get called for ticky tack fouls. you need to be able to put a body on an offensive player in the post, and someone as good as duncan doesn't need as many calls as he gets.

San Antonio is not the one going small -- we are. Its been the tactic which made it a series. Go small, ignore our sad *** bigs, and force the SPURS to bench their frontline guys and try to match the power of Bonzi/Artest with 4 little guys. By matching us small for small, the Spurs have been playing into our hands, not the other way around.

That is not true Brick....Pop is always the one to make the first substituitons bringing in Finley, Barry or VanExel (neither of whom are of any size) and ignore Nazr who played a fairly large role for the spurs as their starting center this year.
