Summary:

Gay ( C+ ) -- Rudy was sort of there at times tonight at both ends of the floor. He only had one turnover, and it was in the first quarter so he got it out of the way early. And although he shot 50% from the floor, it didn't feel like it. He never seemed to be in a flow. He's hit a shot, and then disappear for a while. He managed to play 31 minutes despite being in foul trouble from the beginning of the game. And, its possible that those two quick fouls in the first quarter affected his overall performance defensively. He had some good moments, like when he stole the ball from Howard, but he had some bad moments as well. Twice in the game Ariza just blew by Rudy. Fortunately for Rudy, he missed a layup on one of the attempts. Another time while guarding Harden, Rudy backed off of him and Harden hit an easy three. But then stuck on the perimeter in a switch, guarding Terry, he did a great job of Keeping Terry in front of him and forcing him into a bad shot. So from my perspective, it was sort of a disjointed game for Rudy. I never felt as though he had that much of an impact. At least not for a player of his caliper. --Baja

Summary:

Casspi ( C ) -- Omri had a fairly typical game for him. His shot was a little off, especially his three point shot where he went one for six. But he was Mr. Hustle as usual, and for the most part, he defended well. He got caught in a couple of picks, and in one instance, Howard had a hold of his jersey. Well done there! He managed to create an untimely turnover when we least needed it, but then he wasn't alone in that category. A lot of what Omri does, doesn't show up in the boxscore. However, tonight wasn't his best night. Especially in the rebounding dept. He only grabbed 3 boards, which is half his season average. All in all, not a bad game for Omri, but tonight we could used his best. --Baja

Summary:

McLemore ( A ) -- Nobody's perfect. Ben, for instance, had two very visible mistakes in the fourth quarter - once sloughing off of Trevor Ariza in the corner giving him an open three, once missing a gimme reverse layup on a beautiful pass from Rondo. But far from Ben being the reason we lost this game, I'll make the case that Ben was the reason we were in it in the first place. The Kings played a horrible first quarter and finished it up down 13, but made up 11 of those points in the second quarter largely due to Ben's efforts - 11 points and tremendous defense on James Harden. Given that Harden got 31 points tonight you might assume that he torched Ben, but that's not really the case. By my accounting Harden scored 12 of those points on Ben (though two were free throws in garbage time) and made only two field goals, one on a blatant pushoff that didn't get called, and one on a three with Ben directly in his face. And I think he only legitimately got around Ben on a drive two or three times (and yes, the FTs from those times did count against Ben in my book). Remarkably, Harden scored a grand total of zero on Ben in the first half, and when he was on the floor while we made our comeback in the second he was completely stifled, not even getting off a shot on Ben in the quarter. For some reason, Ben wasn't on Harden full time, sometimes because of switches but for many possessions because we had Omri or Rajon pick him up instead, and given Ben's success tonight, that was a mistake. Ben's D wasn't limited to only locking down Harden as well as you can ask, he also came up with a block in the lane and three steals - and he was crashing the boards, credited for nine rebounds but if you got a rebound in the scorebook after a teammate's blocked shot, Ben would have had a double-double tonight. And of course, ben was scoring up a storm. He hit 60% of his threes and was consistently beating the Rockets down the floor until they adjusted at halftime. 19/9 and great defense - Ben was probably the best player on the floor for us tonight.

Belinelli ( D ) -- Marco had a true stinkburger of a first half missing all three of his shots (two of them badly), making an out of control pass directly to the white shirts, and playing terrible defense. He made up for it a tiny bit by injecting instant offense in his second stint, hitting three of three jumpers and pulling down three rebounds. Still, with Ben as great as he was tonight Marco got short minutes - and it was certainly the right call. That second stint keeps Marco from a failing grade, but he wasn't doing us a whole lot of good out there. --Capt.

VF21 - (A+) - Despite an obvious attitude right from the beginning, VF managed to stick it out and didn't ban anyone, didn't break anything (either inside her house or on her person) and, perhaps most importantly, didn't make a huge stack of over 30 years of Kings memorabilia and torch it in the middle of her front yard. Although this was a tribute-worthy performance, we have serious doubts about her ability to repeat such a feat should tomorrow's game go anything like tonight's.

Mclemore gets a D and Cousins gets a B looking forward to the explination

Cousins F--
I was disgusted by the way Cousins played tonight. I have always been a Cousins fan, but with this kind of body language and attitude he can go f*** himself. He is just no real leader and he'll probably never be, sorry.

Cousin's was obviously exhausted. I fear his back may be effecting him too much. Also, let's not forget how dominant of a center Dwight Howard can be. It's a tough matchup regardless of how good Cousins is.

That being said. I'm starting to think we should fire Karl. I really don't see what he's bringing to the team. Idk

Fun game. Same result. Why does cousins try to block Harden with 5 fouls at the end of the game? Makes no sense. Oh well, just another day.

Something like that. Or lingering effects from whatever altitude thing was going on in Mexico. Either way, now a back to back, and basically this whole trip could be a wipeout for him, and accordingly, us. The player these last two games has had nothing to do with the player for the first 1/4 of the season. And as always with us, it comes at a worst possible time. We are so delicate anything dooms us. And for a solid decade now these dooms have killed us before we ever get to have a real season.

I hope Cousins stomach illness did not re-awaken in that New Mexico visit.
He was very lethargic in this game and only seems to get steam in final 4 mins.

Rondo is clearly very ahead of schedule to his all-star form. Dang! I hope we finally manage to string a winning streak to keep him interested to continue leading this flock of lost souls.

Answer me this someone, why is it when DC is on the floor with BMC he doesn't look to pass the ball to him. But when Marcos is out there DC passes him the ball. This happens in all the games they play together. Seems like DC doesn't play well with BMC.

Despite the Kings poor play I still was upset about the stupid calls, that got Cuz out of the game.
Both first quarter fouls were a joke. The offensive foul was a flop by DMO I would like the league to hand out T's for. It's just stupid - as soon as a player is in foultrouble opponents are flopping all over the place to get him out of the game. And most often they succeed and come away without consequences.
Not every time a player ends up on the floor it has to be called. Same BS as these ticky tack fouls on moving screens, where the guard is acting like he is hit by a truck.

Any PG who doesn't pass to the open man, for whatever reason, is not doing his job. I was being diplomatic when I said before that Collison doesn't see the floor well. In reality, he makes some incorrect choices as far as PG play goes. To run an offense and a team, you have to feed the ball to guys when they're open and when they are working hard to get open in the flow of that offense. If you don't, you kill that other players flow and possibly confidence if they're a younger player. The other effect is that players stop running the offense and starts shooting whenever they touch the ball, because they don't know when and if they will get it again. Collisons technical PG skills are just fine. He's also great at running a fast break. His inability to effectively run an offense is what makes him a bench player.

But to answer your specific question, I don't think he cares too much for Ben.

So realistically is this team going to the playoffs or not? And if the Kings don't get to the playoffs, what then?

Probably the same reason that it hasn't looked like he wants to find Seth Curry, either. I think the situation with Rondo playing ahead of him, after he thought he had a solid 'lead' role, has had an effect on his style of play. It looks like he's forcing his own game at times...instead of being a guard who helps "lead" the team

Irrational decision making. Solid decisions during games and before/after, is what sets the elite players apart. It's not just elite talent

Right now we are losing two games for every one we win and we aren't looking like we're going to do a whole lot better than that. Our only consolation is that in the first quarter of the season the West has been remarkably mediocre - we're currently 13th in the conference yet only five games out of the #3 slot. This is seriously an Anything-Can-Happen season. The Warriors and the Spurs will cruise to playoff spots, and the Lakers have no shot. Six of the other twelve teams are going to make the playoffs, but it's way too early to count anybody in or out. That said, we've obviously got a tougher climb back into it than anybody not named the Pelicans and we've got to leapfrog 8 teams to get in. That sort of comeback can be done given the amount of time remaining and the clustering of teams, but as of now we're not playing like we've got the intestinal fortitude to be the team that can make that comeback.

Some of our players seriously need to look deep down inside of themselves and find the fire that fuels them to play.

It's very difficult for "role players" to continue spending that kind of energy, while at the same time "always having the back"....of someone who's "ahead" of them on the 'totem pole', who constantly drains the team with negative emotion.

Attitude matters...a lot...and how it effects energy is huge for the vibe around a team and "chemistry". The 'ingredients' in an attempt to find chemistry, are not mixing

But it's crazy cuz DC and Ben played at their highest level together last year with Malone

A. Realistically there are at least three teams that are one injury away from being inconsequential. At this point, while our chances slip a little further away with each loss, it's not out of sight quite yet.

B. Whether or not the Kings make the playoffs is not the real question IMHO. What will matter more is if and how the team comes together, if George Karl comes up with a system that utilizes our personnel properly and if we can retain Rondo.
