Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Peja ( D- ) -- no energy, no nothing tonight. Just kind of wandered around out there. Missed almost everything, including even a pair of FTs. At least did not compound his exhausted I have all the energy of an octagenarian on oxygen game with stupidity as did Webber. But that's faint praise. Neither guy gave us anything. With Bobby already out, that's your three most potent offensive weapons basically out of commission. In the final minutes got reinserted despite his lethargy to try to slow down Jalen Rose, who was just working over our young OGs, and showed a little energy in doing so. His grade here does raise a question for me of what exactly is an F game for Peja at this point -- when he combines a lack of hustle and boardwork with terrible shooting and no points, what exactly is left? Guess he just did not seem involved involved enough to pin the main blame on.
Webber ( D- ) -- this was the nightmare game. Second game of a back to back, and Webb had NOTHING. Worse yet, he compounded having nothing by playing a stupid stupid offensive game. One of those "well, I have nothing, guess I'll just chuck up another jumper" games. And EVERYTHING was a foot short and off the front of the rim. As usual did a few good things here and there, but not remotely enough to make up for the struggles. Rick made a nearly inexplicable coaching move to return he and the rest of the stuggling starters to the game with 4 minutes to go after our bench had clawed us back into it. And of course Webb stepped right up and hit a jumper. Nonetheless when he fouled out a minute later I was relieved -- our best chance of winning was without him on the floor tonight.
Miller ( A- ) -- big rebounding numbers, and one of only two starters to even make it through customs. Worked hard and kept us in it with his boardwork, but truth be told the grade here is because I feel obligated to give a guy with that many rebounds some kind of A. Really maybe only a B+ in my mind. Just not a consistently a huge impact game. Did help lead our late comeback, not only with boardwork, but also by finally shooting the damn ball. Because that is becoming an annoying problem. Our main guns had absolutely nothing, and Brad simply refused to step up and take shots to help out until late in the game when it was almost already decided. Nonetheless when most of your main guns are taking the night off, and a guy steps up and gives you 19 rebounds while hitting 2/3 of his shots, that's an A of some sort right?
Christie ( C- ) -- our third AWOL starter of the night, but more survivable than having your two leading scorers missing in action. Again not able to sustain any sort of energy, and missed open shots he needed to make. Tried to help down the stretch by drawing a few fouls and hitting some free throws.
Bibby ( A- ) -- Mike tried to bail us out tonight. He really did. Seemed to sense form the beginning of the game that he was almost alone out there, and was very forceful on offense from the start. Was hustling up and down the court on both ends. He was far from perfect -- was forcing, forcing, forcing and made a lot of mistakes along the way. Also continues to mysteriously miss critical FTs for us as he has done all season. May have killed us tonight. Nonetheless Mike was the sole and only reason we even hung in this one. He was the star tonight.
Songaila ( B- ) -- hustled hard but just kept on screwing up. Easily our best PF option tonight (well, we never got to see how Tag and Miller would have worked together because Rick refused to try the big guy again), but kind of a mess. Continues to show good chemistry with Miller. Blew a layup in the final seconds to finish us off.
Evans ( B ) -- looked out of rhythm in a first stint, but gave us a big boost in the second with the game seemingly over -- bunch of nice hustle plays and energy to try to pull us back into it. Got exposed a bit on defense by Rose -- Evans is only 6'5" and neither he nor Martin could deal with a 6'8" swingman on the blocks.
Martin ( C ) -- nope. Not tonight. Struggled in a lot of ways. Missed FTs, turned the ball over at a critical time, not strong enough to handle Jalen Rose on defense. But despite those drawbacks actually showed some things we have not seen before -- at times we were actually running the offense through him in the post. And he made some good passes in that role. Did not really work tonight, but might be a good portent for the future -- kind of played the game of a primary offensive weapon. Unfortunately without much more effectiveness than our true offensive weapons.

Adelman ( D ) -- Did one thing right all night -- deserves credit for going to a zone defense after seeing how little energy we had -- slowed the Raptors up and at times made their offense almost as ugly as ours. But his substitutions tonight were just awful. We had absolutely zero energy and Rick just did not do enough to combat it. No energy, and we don't even TRY Tag or Barnes? Then did something at the end of the game that was so bad, and so...Rick, that I almost gave him an F despite the zone move. We had fallen completely out of the game by the end of the third, and we finally mercifully pulled the Webber/Peja/Christie trio out of the game. Brad and Mike and our reserves brought us back with hustle, got us within four, and then Rick goes BACK to the same trio of guys who were so amazingly flat all game! I mean, come on! On some nights that's a tight call. Not tonight. Tonight it was jsut dumb.

Right grades! :)

Mike was definitely the only one doing well (other than his FT).

Congrats to Brad on (19) career high rebounds!!

Yep, those grades look alright to me.

There is not much insight that can be gleaned into this game other then from those grades for Webb, Pedja and RA. Looking over them is like watching the game again - just terrible effort.

I only feel sorry for Bibby, Brad (career high rebs) and the bench. They did try to win this game.

I greatly agree with those grades. I was so mad at the coach when he put Webber and Peja back in at the end of the 4th quarter when they had NOTHING going for them all night and the ones on the floor were getting us back into the game. IMO those three deserve an F.

Wow I agree with them Brick alert AV.

I almost always never agree cause I am a hard Axx. Pretty close though I would of given the so called best shooter in the league an F and I think Songolia was more in the C range B- will do. Thats about it tho :)

Okay, I've given this a lot of thought and I have to give the team grade...

D-

Personally, I feel that RA made a big mistake in putting Webber and Pedja back out on the court. Webber had cement legs and Pedja just didn't seem to give a rat's patoot. They didn't need to be back on the court and it killed us, IMHO.

He was Faux Peja tonight and I find it hard to give him the same grade as Webber, who deserved the D-. Webb couldn't seem to realize his jumpers weren't going to go and he wasn't able to keep up with Bosh, but at least he had 7 boards and 6 assists. Peja had two of each and I think the only reason he got the rebounds was because he happened to be standing where the ball came down. Horrible effort on his part tonight and I would think about as close to an F as is possible.

Makes me wonder if he got into Toronto last night and immediately started partying with the large Serbian contingent there.

Remember the other night when the crowd at ARCO asked Webber not to take the shot, he did anyway. He made it, then let the fans know of his displeasure. What did he do tonight, 4 of 18, or something like that. All this stuff makes sense. Fans at ARCO get nervous for good reason.

Adelman should have left the bench in during the first substitution period. He definitely should have left them in at the end. Obediently putting Webber and Peja back in was weak on his part.

I just got home from the game, It was a pretty good game, Evans really impressed me.. I also talked to Ostertag & Daniels before the game at shootaround, I asked Daniels to do a 360" dunk for me and he said he can't do that. haha

They shouldn't of taken Evans out either, he was helping alot at the end.

If we could just bottle Bibby's O with Brad's D, we'd be in good shape. But that was pretty much the story from beginning to end. All except for Mo, Mo = Mighty Ninja Warrior.

Unfortunately, we needed !HELP! from somewhere and RA was not going to bench down the stretch tonight. In any way, shape or form.

Here's an interesting stat: During the replay of the game, 3:18 to go in the 3rd, Grant announces that Web & Peja are 6 for 29. They ended up 8 for 32. Which means they only increased their scoring by 2 for 3, in whatever number of minutes they played in the remaining 15:18 of the game? They played a LOT of minutes, I think!

Grade for Adelman, D-. Moving to zone helped with defense, but didn't help with points scored, which are what wins games in the end. I'd like to see them play zone more often, it was effective anyway.

I was yelling at the TV screen when I saw RA brought back Webber and Peja in the game....I was like, "No wayyyyyyy".

I think the bench should have finished the game because they truly deserve, IMO.

Our bench was impressive last night, as they continue to try and show people that they DO exist.

Peja and Chris were horrendous, and I too was surprised when they came back in, but to Webb's credit, at least when he came back in, he hit the 3 to help us continue to surge (and then five seconds later committed the stupid foul).

I was most upset by Songaila's missed layup in the final minute and change. Why can't our guys MAKE layups? It bothered me that the bench + Mike and Brad had been all about hustle in the 4th quarter, but when the chance was there, they missed under the basket. The other most upsetting thing was missing ALL of those free throws. What's up with that? How can we be #2 in the league as a team on FT%, and then screw it up majorly? :(

Oh well, we deserved to lose last night; hopefully we can get it together for the rest of the road trip.

GO KINGS!

My team grade is U ..... big, fat "U" for UGLY......
What kind of game was that anyway?? Even if we had ended up with a win in our column I would still have to call this a very ugly game. I guess these back-to-back games really don't work for the Kings........

Adleman deverved an F because he brought Peja, Webber, Christie back into the game. He needed to stick with who got them close in the 4th. Toronto would have beat the Kings by 20 if Adleman kept the starters in the game though so I will go with a D-.

Is it me or does Peja look like he does not want to play here anymore?

Some nights. Looked like he wanted to be here vs. San Antonio. No idea what was up last night.

Hey Piksi:

Kings 11 - 0 when Pedja leads the team in scoring .. That is the best stat of all :D

The way we were playing Adelman should have tried quite a few more things. I don't know whats wrong with this guy. He simply doesn't do the obvious.

What's even more meaningful is that he ONLY leads the team in scoring 11 times. When Peja decides to show up and put some kind of effort, he usually leads the team in scoring. Peja's lack of scoring this year at the beginning of the season especially was ALL due to his lack of effort.

Remember when professional sports teams used to hire hypnotists and psychologists. There was a desperate attempt to solve this age-old problem A person could be a millionare overnight if that person could reliably influence the minds of emotional and inconsistent big-time athletes.

Even with last night's performances, Chris and Peja are two of the best players in the League. We got em, and we just have to suck it up when they have off-nights.

Although I disagree with Adelman's call to re-insert the starters, I'm hesitant to chastise him for it. He said something after the game which was very true. How long should he have waited? After Bibby, Brad, and the bench brought them back (sorry for the alliteration), Toronto scored a few buckets. He said, "should I have waited until we were down by 8?" He brought in Peja to try and stop Jalen Rose (which somewhat was effective), and he brought in our most clutch shooter this year (even the games he has SUCKED like this one, he has still hit clutch 4th quarter shots). Adelman went with a gut feeling that Toronto was about to take control again, so he went with the vets hoping that watching the comeback from the sidelines would be enough to spark something in them. This game ... he was wrong. I will guarantee that our bench will make another huge comeback at some point this year, and Adelman will probably make the same decision, and it might work the next time.

hoodie, because you are new, we will let this comment slide. You will learn soon enough not to overly praise our dear Brickie. He lets is swell his ego a little too much.
