As of course your resident love guru, the theme tonight will be: Great Valentine's Day Gifts For Your Honey
Boxscore
Casspi ( C+ ) -- missed a contested jumper, hit a three, and was helpng a little on the defensive glass. After half hit his first jumper of the 3rd. Missed a turnaround, stole the ball back after the Pistons got the d-board, tried to dish it to Hawes, who promptly dribbled it off his foot. Hit a corner three. To tell the truth this really wasn't THAT bad of a game for Omri. But somehow it just felt a little disjointed, a little flat. And I think really his lack of minutes tonight had as much to do with Noc stepping up, and Beno stepping up big enough that we wnet back to that icky through wuss..er...guard lineup again as it did with Omri himself. Just did not have spark. But did not stink the place up either.
Gift #1: The Halitosis Kiss O Meter -- for when you want to say, I love you honey, even if your breath does stink. Stick with me guys+gals...I'll have you single by the 15th.
Greene ( D+ ) -- nice job breaking up a break, then splashed in a jumper. Soft pass up top toward Martin that was picked off as he, and we, got off to the sloppy start. Spinning drive but airballed the finish. Sat down after missing 4 of his 5 shots in the first 6 minutes, and did not return until after half. Short stint again in the third. Pulled quickly after he got beat on the d-boards. In the 4th missed the 3pt shot courtesy of Beno, then drove, got fouled, and hit 1 of 2 FTs. Stepped up to hit a three from the side. Got swarmed in the post and the ball taken away, and that was it. Just not sharp. Shot 2-7, gave us no rebounding. Excuse or not the big minutes and big game in New York seemed to have taken its toll on this one.
Gift #2: Valentine Toilet Paper -- for those with a more practical bent, what could be more romantic?
Hawes ( B ) -- picked up two early fouls covering for the mistakes of others and left without having accomplished much. Was back after half and immediately impressed as he dribbled a ball off his foot off the nice feed from Casspi. But came back with a dunk off a drive and dish from Reke, a nice pass to Beno on the slash out of the timeout at the 2:30 mark of the quarter. Fisnished the quarter with the buzzer beating dunk cleanup of Reke's missed layup to close the third. Strong reb to start the 4th, and was really cleaning the glass after half. Took an open but none too smart three, then back to play some good help defense and work on the glass. Out of the timeout at the 2:45 mark drove it against the clock, missed, but grabbed the board and laid it in for the 6pt lead. Not much of an offensive game, although he did facilitate things with his passing, in particular again for Kevin. But a good job on the glass after half defeinitely helped our cause.
Gift #3: Ho flask -- for the party girl in your life. She'll thank you. Really.
Martin ( A- ) -- A strong and efficient game for Kevin tonight with the three kids exhausted. Bad pass turnover trying to drive and dish to Hawes, cut and +1 layup courtesy of the personal assistman again. Was trying on defense against Hamilton, who's game he understands, but picked up 2 early fouls. Stepped into a jumper yo open the 2nd. Then dribbled into space for a another short hit. Drove and fouled and hit both. Long board came to him, spun and hit Noicioni on the break. One time at the 6:00 mark it looked like the Pistons were going to double him and BOTH guys left him...and he bricked the three. Ironically we got the board and he would come back later in the same position to hit one on the other wing. Missed a layup on the right side while maybe trying to draw the foul, but there seems to have been less of that nonsense this last week, and I wonder if Westphal said something tohim? Came back and missed the three from Reke. Nice dribble take and dropoff to Hawes, who blew the assist. Hit a three to start the third, drive and +1 down the middle. Then another drive and blocked. Perils of playing defense -- picked up his 4th foul by midway through the 3rd. Through the long lean years of no defense being played that rarely happened. In the 4th had a nice spinning move into the paint and finish to give us the lead 81-79. Forced a drive against Prince. Then the drive +1, went for the defensive flop at the 4:20 mark against Prince which the refs appropriately ignored -- we were running a lot of 3 guard stff so Kevin was at SF having to guard Prince a lot. Scrawny on scrawny. L, but Prince is the bigger scrawny and overpowered Kevin a few times inside. Leak out on the break from Beno to get us up 5, but lost the ball on the drive at the 1:30 mark for a critical TO. Added a pair of FTs on the intentional foul at the 21 second mark as we sealed things up. Three things of note I noticed: one, both in New York and here, Kevin sweems to be more off the ball. That would be a coaching thing if true. No more with the trying to run the offense through Kevin bit because he's one of your best players. Its been back to more of that Peja type role, and has maybe helped in that creater is not a natural fit for him, and this let's him just follow his instincts. Second, he was for the most part trying on defense tonight. That's not the same thing as always succeeding, but he was trying. Last year he didn't try at all. And three, while there were a couple of incidents, the last few games he does not seem to be cheat...er, I mean flopping as much. Taken as a whole, and assuming that these are not just aberrations and have something to do with Westphal, it drives home how messed up Kevin's career may have been by turds like Muss, who demanded teamwide flopping as a primary strategy, and Theus. It wasn't a spectacular game for Kevin, but it may have been one of the more honest ones he's played in years.
Gift #4: Elephant Poop Roses: -- nothing says love quite like elephant poop! Straight from Thailand, apparently they have perfected some method of making poop inot paper over there (why...I have no idea). And these things are the result. Give her a gift she'll never stop talking about.
