[Grades] Grades v. Pelicans 1/13/2016

Has there ever been a team with talent such as the Kings that could legitimately either beat everyone not named the Warriors or Spurs, or lose the 76ers or Lakers on any given night?

This team is freakin' absurd... I'd rather almost just flat out suck because this is far more frustrating watching what could or should be potential wasted away.... Just want ro scream watching it

... And also beat the Jazz tonight to trick everyone into thinking "Yeah! NOW is the time they've turned a corner LOLS!"

The offense is above average. Sure there are some tweaks that could be made, pace slowed a bit, etc. That is not this teams issue.

The issue is mostly on the D. Now the bad threes lead to transition, and we give up a lot of transition 3's. But our scheme in how to handle those things is way off. Did anyone notice that in the 4th when WCS was out there he jumped the PNR hard, to the point where he was pushing the PG 30-35 feet from the basket, then sprinted back to his man allowing the PG's defender to recover.

That fueled our run. I don't know if that was a defensive change they put in or if it was WCS freelancing, but it is much much better plan that sagging lazy switches that put us in mismatches constantly. Acy is athletic enough to defend that, that was as well. We cheat too much to try and create steal. I'm sure statistics would back me up on this if I knew how to look for them, but I would guess we give up a lot more baskets than we prevent cheating on defense.

I think Vlade and Vvek and Peja and a whole bunch of owners are grading this game and the season to date. It wouldn't surprise me if something in the way of a personnel change may happen in the next few weeks. I'll be very interested in what they are able to do. When your hand is forced as its now it's particularly difficult to make a good deal. Hope the moon is n the right quadrant. Kings, heal thyself!!!

A rare poetic entry from Mr 80!

We need players to play for food. Now those would be hungry players, unlike the jokers we got on this team currently.

I agree! The only thing worse than watching a untalented team suck, is watching a talented team suck. At least one has some sort of excuse.

I agree, but don't disregard the fact that Curry was doing a good job of defending on the perimeter. I'll say it again. Curry is the best perimeter defender on the team. That doesn't mean he's a lock down defender, but he's above average, and more importantly, he gives you one hundred percent effort every time he's on the floor. Put WCS and Casspi on the floor at the same time, and you have pretty good defense. We made our little run in the fourth quarter because of them along with Cousins. No surprise about WCS defending the P&R so well. I said coming out of college that he was the best defending P&R big man that I had seen in a long time. Many times he stops it in its tracks while giving up nothing.

Idle thought -
I wonder if WCS really IS freelancing out there with his blatently-not-to-system pick and roll defense, and that's why Karl doesn;t play him that much?

Maybe WCS was drilled so hard in college the right way to play PnR defense, that he simply CAN'T do it wrong like Karl demands of the team?

And because of Willie's innate inability to play defense wrong, his coach doesn;t have trust in him...?

curious take.

Your brain is a rare and curious thing. ;)
