Darren was hitting his outside shot and the Pacers were not stopping the ball in transition, so Collison thrived. He was also playing an old team. His pairing with Rondo didn't look much different than usual. Cousins going inside more may have helped that pairing by getting a sucked in defense for open threes. The Pacers don't have any guards that will post either up as well. For his size, George Hill would rather face up than go low. So the defensive switching issues didn't present themselves often.

...

One observation about leaving 3 point shooters open - it seems to me that Rondo and Casspi are so in love with rebounding, that they both care more about getting a good rebound position than sticking to their man. They each have above average rebounding numbers for their position, but I doubt this "tactic" adds up to more wins. Whatever we gain by getting more possessions is lost with the opponents making more 3 pointers and at a better clip.
I tried to check that statement in facts:

Players' Tracking Defense metrics indicate the FG% that each player allows opponents to score on him (personally!) from various ranges,
and compare them to the same opponents' "normal" FG% from those ranges.

Results are surprising:

Both Casspi and Rondo generally allow opponents to score at a better field goal percentage than they usually average, but curiously that applies for all distances BUT the 3pt range!

IT MAY SEEM ODD, BUT BOTH OF THEM ACTUALLY LOWER THEIR GUY'S 3 POINT SHOOTING %! :D
(by at least 3%)

Here are Casspi's Tracking-D stats

And here are Rondo's Tracking-D stats

At least we got the W. The Kings let the Pacers back in the game in that bad 3rd quarter. Collison and Casspi had really good games. The Kings would have lost this game earlier in the season. Perhaps the team is turning the corner.

After 29 games the Kings have a record of 12 - 17.

After 29 games during the 2014 - 2015 season the Kings had a record of 12 - 17. They won their 30th game to go 13 - 17.

This has been a frustrating start/season because the team has more talent this season than last season and last season the team went through three head coaching changes. Hopefully the team plays smarter, addresses their mistakes and they start stringing together multiple win streaks of 3 to 5 games from here to the end of the season. Winning on the road is key. The playoffs are in range because of a weaker Western Conference compared to previous seasons.

GO KINGS.

Interesting find. Thanks for sharing!

I'm curious - do you consider these number to match what you see on the court?
Not really, to be frank. :)

With Omri it varies - he quite often manages to threaten perimeter shooters just in time to impact their release or make them think twice.
Rondo would rarely reach to throw himself that far.

One more observation - both of them play exceptionally long minutes, compared to what they were used to earlier. We may be witnessing some fatigue effect too.
