Don't Make Me Use The Bat
#1
No time for a theme, just the grades ma'am.

Greene ( C- ) -- another ouch of a performance as Donte is not exactly powering down the stretch here. Started the game missing the flying dunk on the opening play, missed Tyreke with the pass on the break for a turnover, then missed a jumper. Finally knocked down the three from Reke. Was quiet during middle going of the game, but rememerged late, missing a side three, knocking down a little jumper up top from Reke, and coming up with a block on defense to start a Reke raceout at the 1:30 mark while we still had a chance. May have done abetter job against Granger than did Ime.

Landry ( B ) -- an ok game highlighted by finally getting a respectable PF share of the rebounds (grabbed 10 in 33min). Missed his first couple of jumpers, then got a dunk inside from Reke. Began knocking down jumpers thereafter, got a layin off a nice Reke bounce pass, and followed a miss for another hoop. Had to leave the game apparently with some sort of mouth thing late in the half, but was back after halftime. Struggled as our offense went poof again. Missed an opening jumper, then on back to back plays was denied inside by Hibbert's length. Went after a d-board on a scramble play and got gouled. Missed the straiggt on jumper on a Beno kick. Nice feed inside to Hawes, who missed. Called for the offensive foul for using his elbows. Then a turnover. Revived a bit late, and perhaps not coincidentally so did our offense. Stepped in to hit an 18foot facing jumper, then went inside and drew the foul. Made a steal along the baseline late in the game stepping into a passing lane. Nice little hanging runner inside. O-reb and finish. Helped, but no better than Troy Murphy (19pts 13rebs) on the night.

Hawes ( C- ) -- back from the back injury...at least for a while. Missed the long jumper to start, but then finsihed the pick and roll from Reke. And in probably his game highlight dropped a little behind the back pass in the paint to Udoka for a goaltending call that was almost Vladeesque. Tried to do a touch pass off the d-boards to Beno to start the break, but Beno wasn't ready and it was a turnover. Got a layup at the half off a Reke feed. Nothing would fall for him after half, and then things got compounded when he got hurt. At least was mostly working inside for his misses rather than chucking from the bleachers, and was solid on the glass. Missed a hook, a switch of the hands post move, a flip on a feed from Landry. Hibbert was an impediment. Came down gimpy in the late third, returned briefly in the 4th to miss a long jumper, and headed to he locker room, this time apparently with a knee. Be kinda handy to have a Dorsey around about now...

Udrih ( B ) -- started off still playing well, albeit now more off the ball. Hard slash inside and drew the foul, nice drive and layup at the rim, little rolling hook in traffic, missed the long jumper, then when we got the ball back, kicked to Udoka in the corner for the three. Missed two of his his next three jumpers, and was not 100% pure with it tonight. Committed the Kevin error and tried to draw the foul on the play to close the first quarter rather than get off the good shot. Quiet for a stretch of the second, then drove and kicked to Udola, but Udoka missed the three. Did it himself the next time, getting the steal up top and going full court for the layup. Hit a little pullup to finally stop the bleeding in the early 3rd as we began to stumble. Got a turnover out of the timeout trying to feed Reke inside. Knocked down the little baseline jumpoer. Got his perimeter jumper blocked to start and Indy break. Missed the straight on three from Noc to close the quarter, and was 0-4 from out there for the game, which hurt. Finished through Hibbert for the +1, but missed the +1. Stop and pop jumper. Steal on defense and raced up court to miss the jumper. Not dominant, but not bad, and we dominated the guard play.

Evans ( C+ ) -- first game back, and it was both impressive and shaky at the same time. Had everything going ironically but his offense in the first half, but seemed to tire and was struggling with the mouthpiece. Came on in the 4th as a scorer in one of his classic late surges to conceal the offensive woes staatistically (which may help with the ROY thing since nobody was watching Sacto/Indy anyway), and give us a chance late, but it was not enough. Started the game off immediately passing the ball ahead to Donte for what should have been a dunk, but Donte blew it. Quickly started racking up the defensive boards, then got the drive and kick to Donte for the three. Picked up the first of 4 steals he would have on the night, and dished for back to back dunks from Spencer and Landry inside. Only had one hit of his own before half on a full court gallop where he pulled down the d-baord and raced up for the spinning layup, also split the double beautifully on one drive to get fouled + hit both FTs. Continued doing everything but score in the second mixing a handful of nice feeds with a lot of steady dumps to his forwards taking advantage of the defensive attention he was getting. Looked a little tentative offensively thoguh, stuggling to finish his layups (big ole Hibbert had something to do with that) and with the normal jumper woes -- bring on the summer jumper boot camp. Started to rack up turnovers as well, on a few passes that were ttoo tough to handle, once for stepping out of bounds, a charge, etc. Almost got stripped, but beat the double to Hawes for the layup to close the half. Wasn't teribly effective in the third, and looked gassed. Missed a three, then missed a layup as it rolled off. Another steal, got it back to Landry, but Hibbert stoped that. Sat out the early minuutes of the 4th, but when he came back tried to do the Reke comeback thing again, struggling to life offensively after starting the game 1 for 8 for 4pts. Right off the bench and one on one move for the little hook. Got picked up top by Hiobbert of all people, and fouled him to stop the break. Turned it over again when a Pacer ran into the passing lane on the kickout to the three. Drove and yanked down inside to get fouled. Another nice reverse layup. Then came up with his 4th steal. Called for an offensive foul for a charge that shouldn't have been. Pick and roll turnover to JT. Drive and kick to Donte for the jumpoer. Then got the ball off a Donte block and went full court fior the layup. Strong take to the basket and finsih to get it to 7 with a minute to go, but we would get no closer. Spalshed in the stat padding three in the last 20 seconds, but too little too late.

Of our last 10 games, this was the most important one to lose as far as draft positioning goes.

We had a fantastic 1st half, Tyreke played very well considering he was coming back from the head injury, and we ended up losing.

I was very pleased with the entire game.
