Don't Make Me Use The Bat
We do everything right making the comeback, and then collapse down the stretch. Blech.
On the positive side we lost. We lost = Theme night. Theme tonight, in honor of Darnell Jackson, is: Little Known Badasses

Casspi ( D ) -- wow, this is quite the battle we've got raging for that starting SF spot. Omri and Donte appear to be having a race to the bottom -- he who sucks more, gets the prize. Omri was stronger than Donte in Game 1, and so popped up here in Game 2 as the starter. He promptly quick shot an airball to start, and missed open three after open three off of Reke kickouts. Finally got on the board scooping up a ball for a nice tough +1 finish. That started his best, and indeed only effective stretch of the game as he gained a little confidence and followed it with some more points. But otherwise, not a whole lot to write home about. Went 0-5 from 3pt land, didn't get on the boards this time with only 2, and badly lost the SF battle to the much maligned (although I have never been sure why) Travis Outlaw. Ended up sitting most of the late game out as Westphal rather frighteningly abandoned all his size and returned to his smallball roots with a mini frontline and 3 guard lineup, with Cisco filling in at SF and showing it was actually possible to hit wide open threes off of kickouts.
Michael Flatley -- Golden Gloves Amateur Boxing Champion -- Yes you read that right. I'm thinking he might have been able to do a mean Ali shuffle.
Landry ( C ) -- repeatedly fumbling passes in the early going, quickly got in foul trouble without having accomplished anything. Started scoring in the third, but quickly picked up the 4th foul as well. However, Westphal made a decision at some point to bench all his size and run Landry despite the foul problems, and while he was hardly anything special offensively, he chipped in points here and there in the third, off of good feeds and an on and off jumper, and knocked down a big jumper just before the end of the third that finally gave us a 1pt lead. That was both the beginning and the end of anything special from Carl though, and his statline was as empty as a one dimesnional shooting guard's. 14pts 3rebs 0ast 0stl 0blk 4TO is right up there for me as about as worthless a line as you can put up. Had problems with Favors playing over him, and obviously no factor on the glass as we got creamed -- the connection between rebounding, size, and said size actually being on teh court apparently not cemented in Westphal's brain yet.
John Cusack -- 6th Degree Blackbelt in Kickboxing -- yes, if getting your *** kicked by Michael Flately would nto be humiliating enough, John Cusack could take you too. He began training with former world champion Benny "The Jet" Urquidez in preparation for his roel in "Say Anything" (pictured above -- yes somebody thought John Cusack would be a good fit playing a kickboxer) and 20 years of training later he could kick your *** and make you watch Must Love Dogs wiht one arm tied behind his back.
Cousins ( B- ) -- continues to impress and show that's he's not ready to truly dominate all at the same time. In a year or two though... Showed no fear at all against Lopez, and in fact we intentionally ran our offense right through DeMarcus on the block for the first 3-4 possessions. And he responded with a turn around J, a nice pass to Beno underneath, and a powerful charging drive for the dunk. But his hackprone defense was again his undoing, as Lopez was able to repeatedly bait him into "fouls" (in the NBA any maneuver whcih attempts to interfere with the offensive player scoring is bad for the game, and hence a foul), and of course DeMarcus picked up another with a late half *** attempt to take a charge on a break even though he was in good position to block the shot. After returning settled in and played a really solid game in the late first and early second. Was getting on the boards, being under control with his moves and drawing fouls + hitting the FTs. But he simply could not sustain because of the constant barrage of fouls, and was in and out, in and out. Briefly showed at the end of the game that he still wants the ball, when at 5:00 to go, we cleared it out set him up, and he went right in, took Lopez into the post, and scored over him. But just when I hoped we could use him again down there, with Lopez picking up his 5th foul himself adn having to be cautious on defense, DeMarcus fouled out after only 21 minutes of action. His hacking is actually pretty saavy -- because he can never stay on the floor for 30 minutes anyway, it lessens concerns about not being in shape limiting him. He's never on the floor long enough to get exhausted.
Jack Warden -- former nightclub bouncer, paratrooper with the 101st airbnorne --don't mess with dudes who fought in the Battle of the Bulge
Udrih ( C+ ) -- not involved in the early going as Cousins and Reke handled most of the time, and joined the team wide shooting brownout in the first half. Finally got one of his stop and pops to go late in the 2nd. Good steal and breakaway to begin the 3rd quarter, got fouled on a bit of a gift rather than getting the layup, then missed both FTs. Nice pass inside to Landry for his first assist. After returning in the late third, immediately got out on the break and dropped a nice pass through traffic to Jackson, which began his best streak of basketball on the night. Started the fourth with a nice long pullup and then a good double on Lopez. Still never could hti a longball though, and only shot 5-15 on the night.
Laetitia Casta -- Brown Belt in Judo -- and imagine me sneaking in a pretty girl? But a pretty girl who might be able to kick your behind, and I have no doubt at all make you like it. Well, if you're a guy.
