Great theme! I love hearing about all these diff records in sports, even in sports i'm not really into(American Football, Baseball etc - basicly anything other then Basketball and Football) and ofcourse great sumup to the game as usuall.

I hope while watching the replay of this game Westphal realizes he should have put ALL the starters back in at the 8 minute mark of the 4th. Dirk towers over Landry and Landry lost some teeth to Dirk only last season:)

Beno, Tyreke, Greene, JT and Cousins were needed down the stretch. When Beno fouled out I would have put in Pooh.

The advantage of having a SF with that height is you can move them over to PF and you are only losing weight not length. Or in the case of Landry gaining height and length. If you want to go small ball a player like Donte is insanely useful. However I don't think the way our guys were playing we needed to match going small.

Going small is an attempt to speed up the offense against your opponents or to put more longer range threats on the floor. As long as our guys could continue to get back in transition and were not being beat easily on the drive we shouldn't automatically assume their small ball will beat our length. The time to make an adjustment against an opponent is when something isn't working or you know something won't work based on past experience. I don't think at this time the latter applies to anything on this team so this time the decision was wrong.

I would have brought back in JT and if he got in fool trouble Donte is a better defender at the PF then Landry so I would have moved him there and got Omri back in. Final play should have been Evans Cisco Omri Donte Cousins. 10 seconds is enough time to go to a second or 3 or maybe evan 4th option for a long ball or drive. I also would have had a handoff to Evans around a Cousins screen after the inbounds to make sure he got the ball cause his drive is whats going to open the 3 or Cousins 15 footer.

I agree with a lot of this.

Although, in all fairness, the play at the end was supposed to have Reke get the ball back. The Mavs knew this and 2 Mavs went with Reke. That's what left Cousins so open when he moved towards the hoop. The failure on the play was that Cousins either should have just shot it or Landry should have been in a better position to score. Ideally, Landry would have been another player in position for a corner 3, so if his man went to help on Cousins (like Landry's did) then we would have had a wide open shot at a 3 to win the game.

@mac ...it's OFFENSE and DEFENSE ...not with a C dude.

Umm ... I'm sorry, I live in Singapore and we follow British English. It is spelt with a 'c'. Frankly I don't really care and I type both, but I tend to like using 'offence' more because it doesn't end up giving me a red line underneath it due to spellcheck. You can correct me if I start spelling it as 'offencive', but till then I don't really get why you're so uptight about this. Is my English that bad? Sorry then.

No problem. I recognize British spelling when I see it. I guess the poster doesn't.

I, too, was a bit picked off that Donte wasn't in the game late. Completely baffled by that.

I was at the game, and I almost yelled out "Donte!" the last few minutes because it was obvious he should have been in.

In fact, at the 7:03 mark on the recording, you can hear me yell out "TyREKE!" right before the Mavs inbounded the ball : PW put Tyreke and Beno in the next deadball after I did that. :)

I was wondering if I yelled at the right time again with "Donte!" if PW would hear me again and put him in. LOL
