Evans - A. Yes, he forced some shots. Yes, he relies too much on his right hand. But his shot was there, he dominated the magic (sans Dwight), and distributed the ball well tonight. Two games in a row he has played well with alot of heart. Let's hope he keeps it up.
Cousins - B. Equal parts brilliance and flabbergastingly poor decision-making. C'est la vie. He took Dwight out of the game completely and dominated the first quarter, then took himself out of the game with foul trouble, driving into charges, silly reaches, bad take charge attempts, etc.. He returned for a big block in the fourth. I considered a B minus, but that spinning post move around Big Baby was flat out gorgeous.
Thornton - C. One hot streak in the middle of the third. Cold shooting night in general. Defensively, he wasn't awful, but also did not really stand out. At least two long rebounds offensive he could have scrambled to get, but didn't seem to realize it. That needs to change.
Salmons - D+. Opened the game with an awful turnover on the dribble. Four for eight shooting which isn't objectively bad, but missed his open looks and is still forcing bad looks in traffic. I still don't like him trying to take his guy off the dribble. The one drive to the basket for the layup was nice, though.
Hickson - B- Lots of hustle and work on the boards, but he still is not boxing out his guy. Let Big Baby pick up a few offensive boards he shouldn't have. He has been knocking down the midrange pretty consistently the last few games. That is potentially huge, by allowing us to space the floor around Cuz. Of course, he needs to be able to catch a pass in order to knock down those midrange shots. That one awful outlet pass cost him a B.
Bench:
Thompson - C+. Bobbled a number of passes that would have turned into scores otherwise. Put in alot of effort and got some good looks. Had a very good play moving to the basket off the Salmons pass. Good hustle on a loose ball that he ruined by making a panicked pass to Thornton, leading to a turnover. Mixed bag.
Fredette - C-. Awful turnover to start the game (stop jumping before you pass, this goes for Tyreke as well.) Lobbed up a bad three early in the shot clock in crunch time that got him yanked from the game. I think if that goes in, Coach Smart still yanks him. Otherwise, put in solid minutes. Good passes off the dribble to open folks got him two assists, and if Salmons could hit a three or JJ or JT could catch a pass, he would have had a few more. Three shot attempts and two assists in thirteen minutes. About where he should be. When he starts hitting shots and learns to get past screens on D, he will be a big addition to this team.
Outlaw - C-. Stop shooting threes. Your shooting hand is in a cast. A few good drives and decent movement off the ball this game, though. Defensively, he wasn't awful, which is an improvement over the season thus far.
Thomas - C. Limited minutes, and not much to show for them. His first instinct is to drive, which isn't a bad thing. He's quick and can get by his guy, but until he gets a good floater, he's going to get lost in the middle. Fumbled a pass from Cousins (which wasn't his fault as the pass broke the sound barrier) and scrambled to get it back.
Overall, we played a good game. If our shooters are on or if Cousins can stay out of foul trouble, we win this one and win it big. There were flashes of good team play, and if we continue to develop there, we are a year away from a playoff run.
