P.J. Brown??

Not hardly. Amongst other things PJ was a great defender.

minus the defense.. I don't know.. They move a lot like each other, and I always think of Brown when I see Thompson play.. It's really got me why I think of him.. I don't know.

Well, at least now we know what Donte's niche could be...and it could, potentially, be a very special one. Being able to hit threes and block shots at a proficient rate is a rare trait few players possess, so if he works on that I can see him definitely becoming more than just a role player. What I saw today was concentration from Donte--shot was on, and he showed great timing and length on the blocks. Admittedly, he was playing against the Knicks group of undersized bigs, but 6 threes and 6 blocks is a rare feat. To me, this was a huge step forward for Donte--actually showed elite traits and translated them to the NBA court. Based on his college stats, I actually think the shotblocking can hold up as well.

Indeed it is - this is only the fourth time it has ever happened in an NBA game. On all four occasions it has been 6 and 6, nobody has ever done 6 and 7, etc.

The first player to do it was Donté's idol Robert Horry (3-19-96). The other two instances were both recorded by Raef LaFrentz in a two-week span: 1-16-02 (against the Kings, a game we won in Denver) and 1-29-02.

Im starting to think the best option might be

Beno - Evans - Noc - Greene - Thompson

This gives every spot a legit backup option. With JT so incredibly foul prone, Spencer ( who actually played pretty good tonight ) is absolutely a better backup for JT than anyone else. Its not like your gutting your bench either, A Sergio Udoka Casspi Brockman Hawes second unit is still very good.

Just so im not contradicting myself. In another thread I mentioned that I thought Spencer should still start, and if he does, Im ok with that. My one exeption was that if we bench spencer it better be for someone who has a future on this team ( NOT Sean May ) So sending Hawes to the bench for someone like Donte is absolutely fine with me.
I remember proposing that starting line-up for a couple of games and as an experiment and I was like treated as if I don't know basketball other than NBA2K10 or whatever. :p

You cannot do that my friend. This isn't NBA2K10 or whatever. This is the real NBA.:D

For the meantime that Petrie is sleeping again and not addressing this problem of lacking a true defensive and manly center, I would want Westphall to start Thompson at the 5, and try starting Greene at the 4 with Nocioni at 3. A lot of you will not agree with starting Thompson and Greene in positions other than their natural positions, but we don't have that much options to experiment on. I think it is worth to try on a couple of games.
Hawes is still learning, he's working hard to try and improve his game, AND he's only 21 years old. Right now the team is finding their identity; you don't find identity by putting one of your young players on the bench and moving others out of their natural positions as an "experiment." It never works out well.

This isn't NBA2K10 or whatever. This is the real NBA. Coaches are working for the long-term, not for some quick fix that will work for a game or two because it's different but then totally and completely blow up in their faces.
Tell Westphall he isn't playing NBA2K10 or whatever, and not me. And if you really believe firmly about this opinion of yours, tell Westphall he needs to wake-up and realized he is in the real NBA.

In reality, Westphall had used Thompson and Greene out of their natural positions in so many occasions already. Thompson as a center and Greene as a power forward. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we've been using and starting Evans as a point guard, even when a lot of professionals thinks he is a natural shooting guard.

Are you saying Petrie hired a coach who is not qualified to coach at the NBA?:p
Erm, no... I'm saying Westphal knows what he's doing and you, on the other hand, don't seem to have the same grasp of the situation. But I was trying to say it as nicely as I could.
Now, I am confused. I think it is becoming clear Westphall is also losing grasp of the situation experimenting on starting the 6' 11" Greene at offguard, instead of his "supposedly" small forward position.

You cannot do that Westphall. This is not NBA2K10 or whatever. This is the real NBA. You cannot be that flexible. ;)

eh we can talk about who and where ppl play all day but the fact remians.

Evans
Martin
Thompson
Greene
Hawes
Garcia
Casspi
Noc
Beno
Sergio
Brockman

will be a talented and deep team I sure wish that Oakafor deal would go through. then i might be tempted to say we are complete just need time to develope.

not sure if anybody caught sportscenter last night, but Doratio made play #2 of the top 10, pretty rad. i'm sure glad i wasn't one of the ones giving up on him after 1 season of garbage time minutes...

I feel Donte deserves more hype by posting his best video work. Sort of a celebration of Dontanian/ Doratio/ Buckets's big night:

For maximum hilarity, start at 2:45.

I don't think the majority of us were giving up on him. We were just being critical of him. I know there were a few that wanted to trade him to just about anyone. Donte has played well the last few games. And not to disparage him in any way, but its just a few games. Hopefully, this is the real Donte. It should be fun to watch..

Love that guy. His personality is going to make him super media friendly when becomes a star on the court, which is happening before our eyes.

Glad his sense of humor survived is rough rookie year.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I guess someone will soon pop up a "Donte Greene - any questions?" I loved his effort and execution tonight. My only question was who was guarding him? The Knicks D was absolutely horrible. Even the Kings were too slow getting out on NY as they bombed away from 3pt land. If they had been on the outcome would have been more in doubt. Nice to see Donte making big strides on D - especially help D. The fact that he can legitimately play 2, 3, or 4 (heck even 5 in a pinch) is extremely valuable if he can show the consistency when he gets minutes, starting or off the bench. Even in a somewhat slowed by his ankle injury, Reke was amazing - again! Talk about consistency and lack of any rookie jitters.
If you would ask D'Antoni who was guarding Greene he would probably tell you "No one".
Nate was supposed to be guarding him, but be serious. He was giving up at least 12" in height. D'Antoni really went off on Nate for not guarding Donte. Too bad there wasn't somebody there to tell D'Antoni what an idiot he was by having a really little person trying to guard the 6'11 athletic Greene.

Donte is a beast, I'm seriously thinking about him deserving a roster spot in fantasy. I am still waiting for him to break 25, I called him for that a couple weeks ago or so and it seems I gave him a ceiling. He has hit 24 twice since then. But the blocks are beatific.

That last game from him he looked like a young T-Mac.

Hey DeMoN you're on the Niners MB arent you! This place isn't quite as doom and gloom as the RZ :D

Yeah it isnt. And i when i said that i was thinking that donte wouldnt play as much PF, just start until Noc was tired and he could switch to SF and Hawes would come in. I just think its a a stronger starting 5 and with Hawes coming off the bench it makes him play stronger. omg so drunk, beer ftw.

I agree actually, maybe just slightly less athletic, but significantly taller.

Your dangerously close to Beatifying him. I'll have to make room at my altar..:)

After returning from a week's vacation I noticed that my Dish DVR hadn't recorded the Knicks game. Looks like they changed the title of the program from "NBA basketball" to the names of the teams playing (Knicks vs. Kings, or something similar). While I appreciate the additional info, kinda annoying I had to miss a game because they made the change mid-season.

Anybody keeping track of Bricks grade for last 5 or 6 games? Would be interesting to see the inconsistency and consistencies of players. Would suspect everyone goes from A- / B+ to a D over span of 5 games. To be expected with so many rooks and "kids" tho'.
