Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Artest ( D ) – Something like Ron's 4th bad game out of 5 starting in Indiana. Have to worry a bit did that return home throw him off? In this one harassed Kirlienko early, but got off to a very slow start offensively while looking unsure of how he wanted to attack Harping – one of the few SFs in the league able to match Ron strength for strength. But while the offense never developed, eventually AK-47 would round into form and have himself a big game. Along the way Ron also committed some dumb fouls and the decisonmaking was just not strong. Just a subpar outing in almost every way.
Thomas ( B-) – in the first half got off to a slow start again, picking up a few boards but unable to get anything going offensively. But started the third with a little burst of life, and while he was not as strong on the glass after half, he played a better all around game and used his quickness in spurts. Statistically outplayed by his opposite number, and not a big board game on a night when we got crushed on the glass. But by the end, ok, bordering on solid.
Miller ( D+ ) – another poor game by Brad, and another 40 minutes anyway. Started off letting Memo get position too easily inside, and never really did find a way to answer back on the other end. In fact was doing his ultra-passive I'm too scared to shoot thing again. Compounded things by simply not giving us anything on the glass as the Jazz swarmed us in there.
Wells ( A- ) – got off to a very active beginning in his return to the starting lineup, doing much of our scoring in the early-going and being involved in a number of defensive plays. And most of that was while matched up against AK-47, which was even more impressive. But began to slow down and lose his composure in the second quarter. Came up with some real muscular steals down inside. But then in the early 4th abruptly returned to his turnover prone ways making three mostly unnecessary ones in the space of the first three or four minutes. But revived down the stretch for some big plays on the glass, driving to the hoop, and canning a big three. Best King tonight.
Bibby ( B+ ) – off to a VERY active start, and on both sides of the court. Not only explosive offensively, but so much energy it almost made me mad about the Lakers effort, or lack thereof. After returning in the second, had lost the momentum and was never really the same player. But continued to be attenitve on defense and spatter in points here and there. And while he did not show in the 4th, and his game fell off dramatically after his A+ 1st quarter, clearly our #2 guy this time out and dominated Deron Williams when the rook was in there. And our backcourt won this one, because we got pounded up front all night long.
Garcia ( B- ) -- got into the game early, but once again just not effective. Not awful. Just completely invisible and lacking spark. Came back later to hit a few shots. Still not the energy we've seen before, but a step forward and contributed something this time out.
Reef ( D+ ) – got into instant foul trouble in a ridiculously closely called first half. I’m pretty sure that I got fouled at some point in there. And never really recovered to have any effect at all on this one. Probably one of his "smallest" games of the year for us. Limited minutes, limited effectiveness, and just an afterthought. Thought of a C- on this one because he did not so muhc hurt us as jsut not help. But Reef is better thna this.
Hart ( B- ) – came in in the late first with both Bonzi and Artest in foul trouble, and contributed with a couple of jumpers in the second. Was back briefly later, and managed to not hurt us directly, although the offense ground to a halt with him running the show.
Potapenko ( INC ) -- came in in the late first after Reef picked up two quickies. Did little other than foul.
Williamson ( INC ) -- got a very brief minute or two of action early due to foul trouble. Fumbled one ball out of bounds underneatht he hoop. Nothing much else.
Adelman ( ) – coming...
