Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Delayed by the other game...

Artest ( B- ) -- well, gave it a go. And this grade is basically entirely because its great to see that kind of toughness and leadership. Because the on the court contributions themselves were very minor and by themselves probably D-ish by Artest standards. Was clearly hobbled and only a fraction of his normal self, but note that even so he kept Kirlenko under control (not that Ak is actualy that great an offensive player). Only had 6 pts until late in the 4th when he stepped up and hit the exclamation point three on a play where AK-47 was hit in the face and left Ron alone. Played 35min, and you can see how quickly we've become dependant on Ron as just being out there, because neither his game nor his health dictated those minutes tonight. Despite the injury, still managed to lead by word if not deed, called several meetings, was constantly gesticulating from the bench, and seems to have already infused this team with some of his defensive spirit, if nothing else.
Thomas ( C- ) -- began the game forcing, missing his shots, and for most of the night was unable to establish any rhythm on the glass either. But finally found some life in the 4th when he went back to the basics of cutting and receiving passes near the hoop, and he combined it with increaed energy on the offensive boards. A poor night for Kenny for most of the night, but came to play down the stretch as we were the ones who pulled away this time.
Reef ( B- ) -- did nothing in his first stint. Got into foul trouble, and picked up a technical with a miming hand motion which translated roughly to "bleep you". Had an effective stint of play in the 2nd quarter before picking up his third foul, and returned to play decently in the third. But with Skinner coming on strong down the stretch, and Reef still not able to have much more impact than just the occasional hoop, Rick stuck with Brian down the stretch and Reef ended up getting to take the remainder of the night off.
Martin ( B+ ) -- back home again, and in the first half it was back to Arco All-Star. Continues to show the nice development of an inbetween game which was really lacking until basically 2 months ago. Outside shot is also very predictable now -- has become an excellent standstill shooter if somebody hits him on the hands with the pass. On the other hand, if he has to take a dribble left or right = little chance. Quieted down as the game went along and the Jazz began to pay more attention to him, and actually lost most of his second half minutes to Cisco's nice work in the 4th. Returned in garbagetime in place of Ron to pick up a few more hoops and notch another 20pt night. 7-9 shooting suggests this might be an A-, but he was sitting on 15pts until his return with about 3 minutes to go in garbagetime so sticking with the B+.
Bibby ( B ) -- got off to a much better start, and with Artest ailing it was back to a Bibby-centric offense. He and Kevin carried us out to our first half lead. On the other end...try this out for size. Milt Palacio's career high = 20pts. This season vs. the Kings = 19, 19, and had 11 more points at halftime. Like Jerome James and Joel Pryzbilla, Milt owes everything to us. But in the second half things changed on both sides of the court. Mike kept firing, but they were no longer falling . But on the other hand the defense picked up, and not only was the mighty Palacio silenced, but Mike was also part of the unit that squeezed the Jazz in the final quarter. Got the strong scoring night we needed out of Mike with so many hobbled players, but not one of his truly explosive outings.
Skinner ( B+ ) -- long stint off the bench in the first half in place of the ineffective Reef, but had problems with big Tag again and was really pretty ineffective himself. Did get his hands on a couple of shots for blocks. But it was his stint in the 4th quarter which raised his grade dramtically, as he was far more effective, was able to bother Okur, and was the defensive big man we've needed as we put the defensive clamps onto the Jazz to close it out. 29 minutes tonight for Brian was a bit of a breakthrough, with Rick discovering confidence in him and even keeping Reef on the bench as Brian played an integral part of us pulling away late.
Williamson ( B ) -- a nice little help off this bench this time in the first half, and then got a few garbagetime minutes as well. In the first half was part of a tough and scrappy unit that held onto with grit the lead that Bibby and Kevin had built early with offense. Even hit a three pointer, which is a biannual event for him at best.
Garcia ( A- ) -- had a shaky first half, but an excellent 4th quarter to wash away the taste of it. In the early going tried to challenge Tag -- oops. Not sure why our kids seem determined to do that. Maybe Tag just looks too goofy to be intimidating. Also ended up leaving the game with a sprained finger after making a great open court steal, and then going down and blowing the open dunk. Was worried that might be his last minutes on the night, and maybe longer with our luck. But didn't turn out that way, and that was a very good thing for us, as Cisco came back in the early 4th to finally hit a couple of threes and extend the lead out to an almost insurmountable edge given the Jazz's offensive incompetence. And his dynamic finish to the game included athletic blocked shot after atheltic blocked shot as he got the energy going and was flying all around the court. A+ final quarter, but those were only half his minutes.
Hart ( INC ) -- a Jason sighting! And oh man was it exciting. So exciting I am declining to grade it despite it barely sneaking past my 6 minute grading cutoff. Suffice it to say that yes, he is still breathing. Woot.

Adelman ( ) -- coming...

Bibby...B...The roller coaster continues for Mike...Good few games, horrib le game, good few games, horrible game...Currently we are in the good few games strech...Looked much better out there tonight, hit his shots, and distributed the ball...Good, not great, but good game.

Martin...A...Martin is starting to develop a very reliable (And pretty) midrange game...That floater that he's now hitting is not only extremly effective, but fun to look at as well. To go with his midrange, also hit his threes tonight, too! He has definatly changed my opinion of him to the better this season....Only knock is 4 TO's, but thats forgivable.

Artest...B+...
Tru Warier lives up to his namesake...Out there at probably 50-60%, and he still D's up his opponet masterfully...The guy is amazing. Iced the game with a three...His presence (Defensivly and attitude-wise) earn him this grade despite relativly ineffective-looking numbers.

Thomas...D...His offensive game has gone to hell these past few games...Hopefully that will bounce back soon...Despite his offensive struggles, he continues to be our main force on the boards. You can always count on K-9 going for the ball on the iron.

SAR...C+...As has been the norm with him, relativly inconsistant on offense, shaky on the boards...Still, without him we would be forced to play either Sampson or Corliss at center...And for that I'm greatful.

Cisco...A+...Great game from Cisco tonight! Was hitting his three-ball, but came through with what is suprising me the most about him this season...The guy can block shots! 5 shot-blocks tonight! Now that alone warrants an A, but his offense was on, as well! Keep this up, and our bench is looking mighty fine!

Skinner...A...
Tonight he makes his case for more minutes...Rebounded the ball, scored the ball, and did what we have been looking for from him, blocked the ball...IF this Skinner keeps showing up, Adleman better keep playing him.

Corliss...B...Hit his fifth three of his career...Thats always reason for a high grade...Just went out there and did his thing, and tonight was one of those night where he got results...5 points/3 rebounds...I'll take that from Corliss.

Hart...C...Missed his shot, but I saw him play good D on a guy on a possetion...Doesnt make a move for more PT (Thank God).

Ron Artest - A (if not solely for what he did, for the inspiration he gave the rest of the team. The guy IS the WARRIOR KING.)

Don't remember SAR being inconsistent on offense before the injury, but during it, sure. But that's expected. Inconsistent/not great rebounding on the year, yeah. Also if we were without him we'd play Skinner at center. ;)

Kevin Martin should get an A++ every time he scores 14 or more points.

20 points today.

Kings now...

10-2

...when KMart scores 14 or more! :D

we won.... yay....

Yes, and I was there....Bigger Yay!!

Lot of guys played well today.

I was not thrilled with Garcia's game, but he atoned with those fabulous blocks.

Kevin (A1) brought the sauce.

Bibby hit some great shots.

SAR played well throughout.

Kenny had another very difficult outing. I kept shouting for him not to take a shot.

Oh yeah....that new guy...what's his name?...was FANTASTIC!! :p He really was an inspiration to the team and the fans. Go Ron-Ron!!

What about Garcia's defense (aside from blocks), energy, pass to KT for big dunk, threes? I thought that was pretty good also. ;)

KT's rebounding was big too.

GGG, would you make sure that you are at the Mar 12th game, please? :D

I'd be at every game if it were up to me.

Unfortunately, it's not. It is in the hands of the many nice people who sometimes shower me with tickets.

yeah....THAT'S going to happen. We all know, that as soon as Brad comes back...its back to the bench for Skinner...'DNPCD'. The norm, as we all know it by now, according to Rick Adelman's rotation that he seems to be stuck to, and has...religeously.

Phoenix has been playing well the whole season

No! We're the PHOENIX. We were down on the half of the season, now we are slowly RISING! ;)

The Brickie grades look Ok, although I think Kenny deserves a "B" despite his poor shooting. He is our main rebounder and has been really banging in the paint. His only deficit this game was the 3 for 12 shooting, or whatever it was.

Could you have them shower a few my way as well? Thanks! ;)

Well, the tickets are usually given to me with the specific intention of allowing me to perform my duties as the Kings' unofficial good luck charm.

And, I'd hate to neglect my responsibilities.

If Martin works at it, I believe he can definately become a Rip Hamilton type player. He has all the tools, now it's just a matter of consistency.

that little game, uhh... whats it called? the super plate? super pot? super saucer? something with super in it......

Kevin Martin is getting pretty efficient on offense. Does anyone realize that he has a .370% on 3PTs? Wow I thought it would have been closer to the .300 mark.

He actually shot 46% from 3PT in January, along with 52% overall.

EDIT: So far in February: 59% overall, 60% 3PT

Yes, Kenny had a very solid night. He was our leading rebounder (9, with 5 offensive boards), led the team in steals, and got double-digit points and 3 assists.

7-9 shooting suggests this might be an A-, but he was sitting on 15pts until his return with about 3 minutes to go in garbagetime so sticking with the B+.

Wow, Brick, you've really raised your expectations and the grading curve on this kid. 15 points would have been so Ho Hum now, eh?

Certianly no longer a call for dancing in the streets. But that's a good thing. If he is doing much else out there, still an A of some kind. But 15pts 4rebs 4TO before the late return? No longer Kevin's "A" game.

Not complaining, just pointing out the bar had been raised, which is actually a good thing. Some people thought he was not capable of averaging double digits in the NBA and now he is knocking on the door at 9.4. (and that 2nd offensive foul was crap, should have been an And 1)
