[Grades] Grades v. Hornets 1/25/2016

Another thing, I know Rudy and Cousins were gone, but what kind of stupid drawn up play was that for Collison at the end of 2OT? I would love to know what the play was there because I pray to god that wasn't that.

Also, WHY WAS MARCO BACK IN AFTER RUDY LEFT? James ****ing Anderson and Marco?!?! WTF!

We get torched every night at the 3 point line because its' 4 on 5 every damn game.

Shooting guard is probably the easiest position to fill in the league. Get something done Vlade. There has to be a guy on someone's bench that's better than Marco, Ben and Seth. This no production is clearly costing us games.

The overcompensating on dribble penetration has got to stop. We have WCS and/or Cuz back there at all times. No need for Collison/Rondo/Rudy to cheat off a shooter to help on a drive every single time. The Hornets figured that out and killed us. George, I like our chances when its WCS vs Lin/Kemba at the rim!! No need for extra help.

As opposed to? Considering the Hornets' lineup. Ben?

Every guard heavy, well coached team exploits the fact that we switch everyone on defense. How many times was Kemba matched up with WCS, Cuz or Gay at the top of the key in the 4th? As good as WCS is, you still don't want that matchup too often. Not only is it still a difficult cover, but it also means we have a guard defending a big man somewhere. Kemba misses the shot, odds are high that free big man gets the rebound.

This in combination with cheating off the shooter is why we look so bad on the perimeter.

As I called it before the game, the Hornets threw the kitchen sink at Cousins and he eventually capitulated with a T. I'm not taking away anything from his magnificent performance, but he is at 10 technicals for the year and we're only halfway through the season. 6 more and he starts getting suspended. We just cannot afford that. We've handed away countless games this year and to have him sit out completely will be what does us in.

what a disappointing loss. i really hate to see that f***ing "L" when cousins' puts up an nba-season high 56 points in such efficient, punishing, wire-to-wire fashion. the man is in a zone of flat-out nasty big man dominance--on both ends of the court--that the league hasn't seen since shaq was in his prime. cuz did everything he could out there last night, and his teammates just didn't have it. they just didn't have it at all. the worst part is that the kings really needed to eke out the win, because they've got a road game in portland tonight that will be made much more difficult by tired legs and crushed spirits, as well as the absence of rudy gay...

Guys like Troy Daniels get off on us constantly because they know that there is zero chance a 6 footer in Rondo or Collision is getting up there to block their set jump shot. This allows them to release comfortably. Look at how shooters rush when WCS is the one closing out, he usually does not block the shot, but the mere thought of length flying at them is enough to throw them off. I don't know when George is going to give up this 2 point guard garbage but until he does I expect more of the same.

I don't think height has anything to do with it. Kyle Lowry is a pretty good perimeter defender and he's no taller or longer than Rondo or Collison. Besides, it's not like perimeter shots are blocked much anyway. It's more about keep close to your man, bodying him and keeping him uncomfortable. The only guys that are going to block those shots are the athletic 6'8" and up athletic wings or freaks like WCS. But those guys are help defense, not on the ball generally.

In my opinion size and length (Height) has everything to do with bothering a shot, since you cant touch a shooter. When its Darren and sometimes Rondo, most shooters shoot much more comfortably. Maybe Troy makes that last three over Ben as well, but there is much better chance of him hesitating or being slightly thrown off.

Regardless of any of that, why does George have two 6 footers in the game when he can play offense defense, especially when they are shooting lights out for gods sake. Huge coaching blunder, and we have been getting killed on the perimeter all season because of stupid midget ball tendencies such as this one.

Does he get suspended a game for each one past 16? Is it waved off for the post-season (if he gets tech number 19 in the season finale - he has to sit out game one of the Clipper series?)

Womder why Kings best defender, a combo guard at that, was on the bench the entire game when we got killed by their guards all night?

It's always bothered me why teams get extra timeouts in overtime but players don't get extra fouls.

It's a very good point.

And as someone else pointed out, does anybody believe they'd have fouled Shaq or Duncan out on the same play Cousins was whistled for? Especially when they have a monster game going like Cuz did?

I think these tweets sum it up best:

Noooooo. You can't call a sixth foul on Cousins when he's going for 60!!

Baron Davis ‏@Baron_Davis 13h13 hours ago
Cousins is a beast... Bad call .. Gotta let him stay in the game. Can't give these guys calls for not being strong enough smh.

Awful, awful call on Cousins. That's just big boy basketball.

He would get suspended for his 16th and then another suspension for every 2 technicals afterwards.
Everyone goes back to 0 when the playoffs begin.

Such a disappointing loss last night especially when DMC had a monster of a game. With a win the Kings go to 2 games under .500. We are so close but yet so far away to the .500 mark.

Daniels burned the Kings on 3s. The defense did nothing to adjust to make him pass instead. If he misses just one of his eight 3's the Kings win. The Kings were 7-23 in 3s. The Hornets were 20-44.

Unfortunately, Marco hasn't worked out. He lost his shot and his defense is nonexistent. I don't know how much more patient Karl can be with Marco. Marco needs to give minutes to someone else while he sits on the bench and thinks things over.

DMC had a fabulous night. Like many I do not agree with the call but it is what it is. Hopefully he gets another chance for a 60 point performance soon.

Damn we need a perimeter defender in the worst way, wouldn't mind seeing Seth or Anderson taking some of Marcos minutes

Ill say again, when you need a defensive stop and you've been getting murdered from 3 point land, why does curry not even get a sniff?
Why didn't acy even take off his warm up's?

I wouldn't mind seeing our starting SG take some of Marco's minutes.

Just listened to Karl's postgame interview where he was asked why Marco played so much when he's struggling. After getting angry at the reporter for asking the question, he says Ben and WCS had defensive breakdowns in the 3rd. Then he says Charlotte played 2 pgs so he went small too.

So......trouble defending means play Marco more?

What this tells me is Karl is looking for excuses to play the players he wants to play and the style he wants.

Adding another perimeter defender won't matter if all Karl really wants to do is score more points and play his guys. And if you're not one of his guys, you might get run out of town. (looking at you Ben)

Might Karl end up being one of the largest obstacles holding this team back?

People have to stop complaining about refing everyone was up in arms when Dirk did not get ejected for going off at a ref in our double OT loss and yet Cousins did (didn't get a t ethier) the same thing and it's completely ignored. The refs did not loss us the game we lost the game against a undermanned team we only got ourselves to blame.

Every time we lose it's cause of Karl or the refs apparently

As pointed out in the [Game] thread, the Kings have lost every game in the Sacramento era where a Kings player went for 50.

That's only 3 right? :)

And I think all 3 went to OT, so kinda pick'ums.

Especially when the guy who scored 50 and got you to those OTs fouls out. Then you are uh-ohed. That two critical losses against that same crapty little team where we lost Cousins right at the very end of a game that goes to OT.

"LATR and L-Slash show Cousins (SAC) attempts to create space after securing the rebound by initiating contact with Kaminsky, who is in a legal guarding position after the rebound is secured, and he dislodges him from his position " - Cousins 6th ruled correct call.

They also confirm Daniels travelled. Incorrect call. Should have been Kings ball. There's a couple other plays that were missed going both ways. Another late missed call was WCS being pushed into Walker by Hairston.

I agree with you to a point. If refs call travel on Daniels, like they admitted they were wrong in not calling, we win, right? That non call directly effected whether or not this game was won or lost.
