[Grades] Grades v. Grizzlies 1/21/12

I think that's true, Hayes can't muscle a 22 foot jumpshot from a 7 ft center...nothing you or anyone else can really do about that if the guy is going off from the perimeter.

Yep. Hayes' job on defense has always been to force his man to take difficult shots instead of easy ones. Now, I'm not so convinced that he was getting that done at the start of the season, but that's his role. If Hayes' man takes a 15-foot turnaround jumper or a 20-foot half-contested spot up, Hayes did his job.

Ignoring the normal silliness, at what point did I accuse anyone except for Reke of playing more than sporadic bursts of defense? Cousins has great hands and is often a dominant rebounder, but he's no lane clogging force yet. Jason tries hard but has never been consistently efective. Our attempts to find a SF defender have largely washed out, except for Donte at times, who rarely gets minutes. Neither Jimmer nor IT can consistently guard NBA guys. Thornton will hustle, but its mostly undisciplined gambling. Hickson is soft and doesn't make the most out of his athleticism. Our most dedicated defender is an injured center an inch shorter than Kevin Martin. We gave up our size advantage over the summer, and now Thornton, Jimmer, IT, Hayes, Salmons and Cisco are all undersized for their positions. We are the youngerst team in the league, which inevitably means mistakes and lack of discipline. We have a ton of defensive issues. Which is why focusing on Reke, one of our 2 or 3 consistently effective defenders, is a tad silly -- although I agree with Mac's assessment that he at least has a chance to correct some of his weaknesses whereas our small/slow types are unlikely to ever be terribly effective on that end.

If you don't expect good play out of Reke, fair enough - I don't consider him a star, so I don't either. You do, so I guess therein lies the difference.

But, it's good that you're finally coming around and seeing Reke the way I do. Like Ron Paul said: "I have learned that you should never give up on your opposition, because if you're persistent and you present your case, they will come your way!"

Gasol is just the kind of player that Hayes has no chance of guarding. He gives up 7 inches and Gasol can hit the outside shot. He would just get the ball, turn, laugh a little bit, and hit the jumper in Hayes face.

You may be right on that. It depends on how far Hayes can push him from the basket; and on the outside it depends on how close he get to him to make him uncomfortable. We'll get a better idea on March 20, the next time the Grizz meet the Kings. Hopefully, both Hayes and Gasol are healthy at that time.

Such childish nonsesne. What's next, "I know you are but what am I?"

I am me except on the days I am you. It makes certain phrases awkward to act out but some days are harder than others.

But seriously, as I followed this intellectual interchange closely, the only person to change changed perception and not beliefs.

???? In what way did Brick "come around." I see no change in his opinion of Reke or pretty much any of our players. Brick's opinions are usually very balanced. He praises when it's due and he criticizes when it's due. You may or may not agree with everything he says, but he does not play favorites, as most people do who are fans of a particular player.

He is hard to please, though, so all team members get hit over the head at times. ;)

On the other hand, it's pretty clear to me you are a Jimmer fan, first, and not a Kings team fan. So for saome reason, to build up Jimmer, one of your tactics is to tear down other players on the team.

EDIT: I shouldn't speak for Brick. What was I thinking! That "coming around" statement just threw me, though.

Where did he say he doesn't expect good play out of Reke? Do you always twist and spin what people say?
