Don't Make Me Use The Bat
A loss, but not a bad one -- the better team just squeezed the life out of us like a python in the fourth quarter, but I still think in some ways this was a better game for us as a loss than the Milwaulkee game was as a win.
P.S. I suffered an injury earlier this evening and may have to go have it checdked out, so unsudre of the delay here. Will try to get them done tonight though.
Artest ( C ) -- took far too many shots in the first half with only sporadic success. Did set several guys up though, and was involved in the most important play of the first half when he drew the 3rd foul on Garnett in 19 seconds, initiating an arm bar with Garnett, and then taking the fall when KG decided to shed him. Was stroing early in the third keeping us alive, but faded late, especially as the Celtics began mixing up the defense on him. Began settlign for a lot of jumpers, and am not sure he had a single point after the midpoint of the third. On the other end sporadically bothered Pierce, and for a while was getting the better of it, but Pierce got stronger as the game went along while Ron faded.
Moore ( B ) -- good start, but faded off and ceded many of his minutes to Kenny Thomas, who you just can't keep off the floor. Grabbed 8 rebounds in 20 minutes this time out, and it was a legit performance on the glass -- grabbed some tough ones, not just stuff that fell into his hands or rebounds of his own bricks. Did fine against KG when matched there, although so did almost every King on a bad off night for Garnett. Had less luck with the little bowling ball that is Big Baby Glen Davis, who managed to outmucle our entire frontline while never particularly impressing.
Miller ( B ) -- Brad Miller is a strange and awkward beast as a big man. One of those guys where if he were born 6 inches shorter you would never even take a second glance at him at the park. As the anti-Shaq/Duncan -- a soft faceup jump shooter -- I sincerely doubt he will ever win an NBA title as anything other than a benchwarmer. But there are nights when that skill, that ability to hit standstill jumpers, can flummox the opposition. Brad did not have a great overall game tonight, but it was one of those nights when the jumper was pure, he rarely hesitated, and whenever he let fly it was nothing but net. He made 7 FGs, and I am trying to remember whether any of them were anythign but 15-18 foot jumpers. And normally that is an ugly thing -- a waste of a tall guy playing like a guard. But tonight it was one of the few consistent sources of offense for us, even if we rarely set the play up looking fro Brad, and most of his hits came at the end of broken plays where the ball ended up in his hands and he just drained it. Of course as usual I was less amused as our "center" wandered even further outside to brick two more three pointers -- Brad Miller is 3-22 from 3pt land so far this year. At exactly what point do we realize having our 7 foot center chucking up 25ft bricks is a bad idea? As mentioned, the rest of his game was just a shrug. Not terrible, but Miller standards, 35min 7rebs 3ast 3TO. But after initially I thought doing a good job of taking advantage of the undersized rookie Glen Davis, the new round mound began to beat him physically in there in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
Salmons ( C- ) -- not strong enough to stop Pierce in the early going, and had a quiet quiet game offensively. Was considerably befuddled by the wall the Celtics put up on defense down in the paint -- aside from a predictable schooling of sad sack Brian Scalabrine, just could not get his bread and butter finishes around the rim, because the Celtics' help defense wouldn't let him get to the rim. Did bother Allen on defense at times though -- better physcial matchup. Nonetheless John played 37 minutes and gave us all of 10pts 3rebs and 1 ast, and scored 5 of those 10 points in the final minutes of garbagetime.
