Don't Make Me Use The Bat
A loss, but not a bad one -- the better team just squeezed the life out of us like a python in the fourth quarter, but I still think in some ways this was a better game for us as a loss than the Milwaulkee game was as a win.

P.S. I suffered an injury earlier this evening and may have to go have it checdked out, so unsudre of the delay here. Will try to get them done tonight though.

Artest ( C ) -- took far too many shots in the first half with only sporadic success. Did set several guys up though, and was involved in the most important play of the first half when he drew the 3rd foul on Garnett in 19 seconds, initiating an arm bar with Garnett, and then taking the fall when KG decided to shed him. Was stroing early in the third keeping us alive, but faded late, especially as the Celtics began mixing up the defense on him. Began settlign for a lot of jumpers, and am not sure he had a single point after the midpoint of the third. On the other end sporadically bothered Pierce, and for a while was getting the better of it, but Pierce got stronger as the game went along while Ron faded.

Moore ( B ) -- good start, but faded off and ceded many of his minutes to Kenny Thomas, who you just can't keep off the floor. Grabbed 8 rebounds in 20 minutes this time out, and it was a legit performance on the glass -- grabbed some tough ones, not just stuff that fell into his hands or rebounds of his own bricks. Did fine against KG when matched there, although so did almost every King on a bad off night for Garnett. Had less luck with the little bowling ball that is Big Baby Glen Davis, who managed to outmucle our entire frontline while never particularly impressing.

Miller ( B ) -- Brad Miller is a strange and awkward beast as a big man. One of those guys where if he were born 6 inches shorter you would never even take a second glance at him at the park. As the anti-Shaq/Duncan -- a soft faceup jump shooter -- I sincerely doubt he will ever win an NBA title as anything other than a benchwarmer. But there are nights when that skill, that ability to hit standstill jumpers, can flummox the opposition. Brad did not have a great overall game tonight, but it was one of those nights when the jumper was pure, he rarely hesitated, and whenever he let fly it was nothing but net. He made 7 FGs, and I am trying to remember whether any of them were anythign but 15-18 foot jumpers. And normally that is an ugly thing -- a waste of a tall guy playing like a guard. But tonight it was one of the few consistent sources of offense for us, even if we rarely set the play up looking fro Brad, and most of his hits came at the end of broken plays where the ball ended up in his hands and he just drained it. Of course as usual I was less amused as our "center" wandered even further outside to brick two more three pointers -- Brad Miller is 3-22 from 3pt land so far this year. At exactly what point do we realize having our 7 foot center chucking up 25ft bricks is a bad idea? As mentioned, the rest of his game was just a shrug. Not terrible, but Miller standards, 35min 7rebs 3ast 3TO. But after initially I thought doing a good job of taking advantage of the undersized rookie Glen Davis, the new round mound began to beat him physically in there in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

Salmons ( C- ) -- not strong enough to stop Pierce in the early going, and had a quiet quiet game offensively. Was considerably befuddled by the wall the Celtics put up on defense down in the paint -- aside from a predictable schooling of sad sack Brian Scalabrine, just could not get his bread and butter finishes around the rim, because the Celtics' help defense wouldn't let him get to the rim. Did bother Allen on defense at times though -- better physcial matchup. Nonetheless John played 37 minutes and gave us all of 10pts 3rebs and 1 ast, and scored 5 of those 10 points in the final minutes of garbagetime.

Beno ( B ) -- closed the second quarter with a rush, helping us to briefly open a 4pt lead with the Celtics kind of wallowing, and continued solidly into the early third, generally outperforming Rondo except for occasional defensive plays made by Rajon. But faded and disappeared late, and was shut down by Eddie House of all people (with much help -- 4th quarter Celtic team defense was pretty remarkable).

Thomas ( C+ ) -- continues to rack up those minutes. In the first half gave us both the KT specials: turnovers and fouls. But along with thsoe came some steals courtesy of the those quick slaps on defense. Played the whole 4th, and actually earned it -- did a good job on Garnett, who obviously did not bring his A game, but still should be expected to dominate a Kenny Thomas. Little from KT himself this time out, and his presence on the court throughout the 4th only added to our offensive woes, but he did a solid job of limiting his opponents back the other way.

Douby ( D+ ) -- quiet first half minutes, and something closer to shaky 4th quarter minutes as the Celtics squeezed us and the offense collapsed. Offensive output was limited to 2 missed threes. I think continues to have the problems a lot of big college scorers have when they enter a situation where the ball isn't going to come to them constantly -- hard time figuring out how to score in spots rather than constantly.

Cisco ( C ) -- ahh... the colorful Mr. Garcia with another...interesting performance. In the first half hit a big three as part of our second quarter run, but otherwise made some dumb errors for turnovers. But was just warming up. In the third quarter as we were hanging around hit several big shots and, then came back to start chucking up multiple airballs, all from the same source. And just flew totally out of control in the early 4th I think trying to save us, and in the process just making things worse. They say there is a fine line between bravery and stupiditiy, and Cisco walks it daily.

Hawes ( D ) -- nothing in his first half minutes, and misadventures in his second stint, as we briefly started the 4th quarter with him matched against Garnett, and KG quickly pounced on him on both ends. We hid him therafter, but still unable to come up with anything.

Reggie ( ) -- yes, the loss was as bad as the score indicates -- they simply slammed the door on us int eh second half and refused to let us score,a dn we had no answers. But that said, this was still..I guess you would call it a "solid loss". We competed. They clealry did not bring their A game. Garnett in fact may have brought his F game. But we still competed and hung around. We had moments of good defense, with Garnett on a siesta we held our own on the glass, and in general we managed to get beat by only about half of what everybody else gets beat by in Boston. I'll say this too -- if Boston doesn't play any better than that, we will have a legitimate chance to beat them back home in Sacto the day after Christmas. Note about reggie -- he again called hisn now taditional 3-4 minutes into the third quarter timeout. Has he been happy about how we've come out of the locker room once this season?

House ( A ) -- minor point, but a class move at the end of the game when he broke out and caught a long half court pass with maybe 10-15 seconds to go and a clear path to the hoop. Could easily have padded his stats but instead circled through and pulled it back out to run out the rest of the clock. Simple, classy, gesture, and its irritating that its not one you can always depend upon.

Good luck with that - hope all is well.

Okay, sorry about that. Tore a calf muscle and its been a hindrance. You know -- hard to type without your calves.

Ooh, I'm sorry to hear that Brick, that was me this last summer, tore my right calf while I was sparring. Was out 6 weeks. You'll be back on your feet(no pun intended:D)but you'll be back on your feet in no time.
