Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Girls.

'Nuff said.

Otay, since our last debacle I have rapidly reloaded my own pretty girls queue, including a real cutie I jsut stumbled across yesterday, but when people send me their own lists, I like to put them up in good time, especially when they go to the apparent trouble of not only securing pictures of the ladies, but of photoshopping them and linking them too. So without further ado, tonight's theme is MonkeyMike's Pretty Girls.

Official Boxscore

Garcia ( F ) -- an F-bomb you say? Yes, an F-bomb. This just made me mad. But let's make sure the credit gets spread around to all appropriate parties and pass some of this Westphal's way as well. Basically the offense was not there. He hit a single three late in the first quarter, and that was basically the extent of his damge. Missed all his other threes, had 4 other points. But of course that absolutely was not the problem here. We've witnessed some godawful defensive beatdowns of various Kings this season, and right here on this roadtrip for that matter. But what we found out tongiht was that Francisco Garcia absolutely can NOT, in any way, shape, or manner, guard Paul Pierce. And we all figured that out a hell of a lot quicker than Paul Westphal did apparently. This was just awful -- right from the opening bell Pierce started working Cisco over, used his outside, used his inside, but most of all used his power, and he just ran right through our scrawny blown up offguard time and time again. Midway through the first I was already calling for Donte or Casspi. Nobody listened. By the end of the first Pierce had 15 points, and I think all but 2 of them were directly through Cisco who incredibly played the entire first quarter despite getting exterminated on defense. Amazingly after a full quarter of the beatdown, Westphal went right back to the matchup at the close of the first half, and in a major surprise Pierce just immediately, the very first possesion he got his chew toy back, ran right through our scrawny little...well, you've heard it before. Power drive, knocked Cisco right out of the way, 2 more Boston points. After Cisco did some more of his fake injury B.S. just before halftime, maybe by way of excuse I don't know, we come back out of the halftime break and do you know who we have starting and guarding Paul Pierce? I'll give you one guess! Just simply amazing. Hey, and do you want to guess what Pierce did with that matchup? Come on! It'll be fun! Somewhere in the midst of this my brother texted me that Westphal said they'd tried everything and that Pierce was just a great player. I nearly spit up my hot chocolate (we are having a blizzard you know). Because the fact of the matter is that we did the exact opposite of trying everything. We tried nothing. We trotted Cisco out there quarter after quarter to just get squished like a bug on the windshield, and much as we were badly outclassed in this one and lost it before we even stepped ont he floor, Cisco being made to look liek a helpless child out there was the constant fuel powering the Celtics. The rest of them barely had to exert themselves before stepping out for an early dinner while the scrubs cleaned up, because anytime and everytimne they wanted they just gave the ball to Pierce and it was over. This is not exaggeration. What this is is an F level beatdown and yet another ? dangling over Westphal's head -- he had to see it didn't he? Didn't he?

Louise Cliffe - British Model/Actress/Singer. Was in Wrong Turn 3 and some show on the Sci-Fi channel.

Thompson ( B ) -- as effective as any King tonight, and that's not a great statement for the team when a guy scores only 7pts. Made a couple of strong interior defensive plays in thr early going and was energetic on the glass on both ends. Strong play bumped him up over Daly as backup center in the early second, as he was playing well, and Westphal was determined to do his absolute best to keep pursuing a francise record for most points given up on a roadtrip. By the time he left midway through he third we were already down 20, so its not as if he was changing the game. But it was solid, workman like, and he was one of the few guys on our team that didn't look intimdated (may have helpe that everybody else was facing All Stars and HOFers while JT was facing a guy with the very intimidating nickname of Big Baby.

Amber Lancaster - Former Seattle Seahawks cheerleader, now a Price is Right girl and plays Jenny Swanson on MTV's hit show The Hard Times of RJ Berger. Looks good for someone in her 30's (Editor's Note: Yes, he actually said that, which establishes that a) Mike is a braver man than I and b) that Mike is going to die a born again virgin)

Cousins ( D ) -- you know what, for the first time in this game I got the feeling that DeMarcus was actually intimidated, or at least in awe, of Shaq. And that's certianly not because of SHaq's talent at this late date, but just that it was well, you know Shaq he was playing against, and that Shaq has gotten HUGE. DeMarcus is a big boy, and he was just utterly dwarfed by the (Very) Big Leprechaun, who just has to be pressing 400lbs once again. And the practical effects of all that mass was that DeMarcus's power game was entirely impossible -- there is no bullying a man mountain -- and he didn't look sure about what he wanted to do about that. Did better after the Celtics went to their bench and showed you how much they miss Perkins when they inserted Erden, but it was just minor stuff, and three games into this roadtrip you have to wonder who was making it easier for who during that recent streak of 20pt games -- Cousins for Tyreke, or Tyreke for Cousins, as he's hit the road and looked very much the rookie again. After returning in the 2nd, was matched with the return of Shaq, who pulled him out of the air while they went for a rebound. Fianlly just turned into a jumpshooter by Shaq after half, and clearly incomfortable out there agains tthe Celtics defense and made several really ill conceived crosscourt passes that the C's are always going to pick off. Not quite the bounceback game you were hoping for after the mess in Washington.

v5hn41.jpg

Melanie Iglesias - Recently named Maxim's 2010 Hometown Hotties winner.

Udrih ( B ) -- I don't think you can ratchet this grade up too high in a game like this, but really this was a third straight strong game on this roadtrip, and in some ways this one was stronger than the other two because it wasn't accompanied by a defensive beatdown on the other end of the floor. And it was accomplished at a more reasonable pace too -- in our first couple of games ont his trip it was obvious that our crap defenders had taken over leadership of the team and were more than happy to stuff their stats on one end if it meant they didn't have to break a nail on defense on the othere. This time we got smoked, but it was the smoked of being badly outexecuted, and the pace of the game was reasonable. And so Beno beign able to be this efficient against this team at a normal pace was in many ways more impressive. Should be noted that one advantage of startign Pooh in this one was that it did take Rondo off of Beno -- I remember that macthup not going well, at all, for us in years past. And against Allen and friends, Beno was just able to be very efficient. Never prolific enough to really matter, but he hit almost everything -- 5-6 from the field, 5-6 from the line -- and was just very solid. His three point play in the final minute of the half to cut the lead to 6 was kind of our last bid for relevancy in this one. Dind't have much of an answer when the Celtics stepped on us after the break, but that was kind of in keeping with the feel of this game. Not forceful, just very efficient whenever a good opportuunity presented itself. If we say had a couple of young stars leading the way ahead of him, this would have been a very nice 3rd fiddle game. Alas we are the Kings and this as the best we had.

Jeter ( C ) -- you could say this was our Pooh game, as by the end he racked up 40 minutes on the night, and with Westphal's latest bit ofstubborness in not playing Cisco as a SG, my hasn't our backcourt depth been exposed with Reke out. Pooh did not embarrass himself out there, and it must have been a thrill and all that. But he was very minor player on court full of all timers, and they just kind of ignored him asb he never mattered in the least. Was not able to contend with Rondo much of anywhere, but his mere presence out there kept Rondo off of Beno, so it helped his teammates in that way. Celtics were smart about catching him on switches and going at him with bigger players, and he just had no answer there. Had a couple of zippy little plays for scores or passes, but not many had they had no impact -- just got free for an isolated little dart once or twice a quarter. Started of course in Reke's place as our answer to not having Tyreke Evans out there who gave us 27pts 12ast last time out, was to start Luther Head, Jermaine Taylor, and now Pooh Jeter in succession instead. Which is just...ouch. But with the game spiraling, and Westphal already starting both the PGs on this team, and who knows if Head was even active for this one, we just threw Pooh on the court right through the end of the game. Nothing much exceptional happened until qith less than 2 mintues to go, deep in the garbagetime in a game where we got smashed so bad that Harangody got to play 20minutes against us , for some reason Pooh went for a silly and entirely inappropriate pass off the backcboard that had no chance. Whatever. Pooh was ok here. Did nothing to remotely suggest he's a starting NBA guard, but didn't fall on his face.

Bench

Taylor ( C ) -- after stunning the C's and their collection of 4 HOFs and 54 combined All Star game appearances with our Beno/Pooh backcourt, we delivered the coup de grace by throwing out Jermaine Taylor, THE Jermaine Taylor, as the third guard. I'm pretty sure I saw Doc Rivers pee his $2000 suit at that one. And what did we find out about Jermaine off of this game? Well, we found out he's an athlete. And...that he is athletic. And....um, did I mention he's a pretty good athlete? Ran up and down the court being athletic. Rarely thought about what he was doing, but damn if he wasn't ahtletic. After a couple of early forces in the late 1st, had a nice athletic drive and finish in the early 2nd. But got himself picked in the open court by Glen Davis of all people and every trip was an adventure. Showed himself especially adept at driving baseline and getting himself trapped with few oiptions. Tried to use his athleticism -- there's that word again -- on the offensive glass but kept on coming up just short on the battles. Back in the third and got it knocked away from behind by Rondo to trigger a Cs break. Deep in the overtime had a couple of highlight plays, getting an open court steal and breakaway to get one back, and a little later flushing a big alley oop from Dalembert. Its Jermaine Taylor, so what can you expect here, but not ready for prime time yet.

Amber Heard - Starred in Never Back Down, The Stepfather, and some other movies...

Landry ( B- ) -- in late in the first, and actually notched an assist with a pass to Beno for a three. We may need to asterisk this grade, because all night long the Celtics blatantly insulted him, and us, by trotting Luke Harangody -- Rob Kurz's successor as leaguewide uber-scrub -- in off the bench to "guard" him whenever he was on the floor. So Landry recognizing a good insult for what it was, just repeatedly ran righht through Harangody's chest to draw fouls, and looked like he was as interested in bruising him as in in actually scoring. Got a steal in the final minute of the half, but mistook Jeter for somebody of basketball height and threw the ball 2 feet over his head trying to trigger a break. Fouled Rondo on a drive at the first half buzzer after he beat Jeter full court for the +1. After half it was more of that same Harangody insult and more of the same repsonse by Landry. Not like he was even tryign to put any moves on him. He jsut ran him overm sometimes for power scores, sometimes for offensive fouls. As usual not much else going on with Landry's game. Its beyond pointless to mention the rebounding at this point, but defensively at least Harangody could do no more than match his spectacular 2.0pts/gm season average. A rare game here where I'm giving a Luke Harangody demerit tic.
259wpdy.jpg

Jenn Sterger - Girl caught up in the Brett Favre scandal.

Casspi ( D ) -- don't know what happened here, but that long stretch of solid games just sort of came to a very quiet, very invisible screeching halt. And I know out here on the East Coast Omri gets all sorts of attention and requests for his time and whatnot, but its hard to imagine that having much to do with this one with the team plane apparently not landing in Boston until 4:00 am -- how much extra stuff could he really have had in his schedule? Minutes were really quite empty matched up against the likes of Marquis Daniels. Had one field goal each half. Missed all his threes. Did not rebound. It was just ducky, and so far as could be told really had very little to do with anything the Celtics were doing to him, although it should be noted that I don't think Pooh was consistently getting him the ball. In any case, avoids anything worse as a grade just by being too irrelevant to really matter in this one.

Katie Cassidy - Was on the Melrose Place remake but got cancelled, now has a recurring role on Gossip Girl. [Ed Note: no male should know these kinds of facts, not even in pursuit of a pretty girl]

Jackson ( C- ) -- in there ahead of Dalembert too at the end of the half? Westphal's decisions are just inscrutable. Back in for the garbagetime and was agressive if nothing else. Forced a drive got the ball back, finsihed. Added a little jumper.
2zhgtia.jpg

Lacey Chabert - Gets a lot of small roles in movies and shows. Probably most know for her role in Mean Girls.

Greene ( INC ) -- gave us a quick (and it had to be quick) flash of both good and bad Donte after entering for the final minute of the first half, airballing a cointested three on one end, and blocking Rondo on a drive on the other. Never returned again, not even with a good 18-20 minutes of garbagetime in this one? Strange strange strange. Donte's use, or non-use, does not follow logical patterns.
qs1iq9.jpg

Nicole Pisarri - Oldie but goodie [Ed Note: oldies are now 2 years odl]

Dalembert ( B ) -- was the 11th and final King to enter this one, and did not get in there un til the game was basically decided by the mid third and we were down something like 20. Why this was nobody knows, least of all Westphal. A team crying our for defense and we bench our best defensive players. Then we head into a deep long garbagetime, and we play our vets. After a while its just, whatever man. And then after entering Daly goes on to be our best player of the seocnd half of the game, and to have an impact in every way except basically the one way you had hoped he might -- defenisvely. Bizarre. Was very active tipping balls around on the offensive glass after finally getting in, and with Shaq long gone took one look at the utter garbage passing it off as reserve bigmen for the Celtcis and just very confidently went to work on them offensively. This is not an offensive player, but he's a vet, and old pro, and he looked like he had compelte confidence out there displaying all kinds of stuff you barely knew he had in working them over. Not able to have much impact on defense, and the explanation was actually fairly simple -- he had nobody to guad because of the aforementioned scrubbiness, and you look at the Celtcis scrubs who ran this oen out, and they are all perimeter peopel. And perimete4 people just getting off any easy look they wanted against our guys. So the quarter was full of long jumpshots, and open court dashes, and big ole Daly was rarely back inside to be able to guard anything. Late in the game did catch Daniels, scared him off his drive, and then chased him out to the perimeter to force a turnover. In any case, nice solid game, but his usage was again just inexplicable.
2ebspk6.jpg

Jenny Wade - Was on CW's Reaper but it got cancelled, now on FOX's The Good Guys.

Westphal ( F ) -- Its not as hard as you are making it look.

Casspi's defense is good and he rarely makes mistake.

However his offense is terrible. He has no game off the dribble. He can't make his own shot.

Er, flip those please. Well the first part of the second statement. He does struggle to create off the bounce, but in general his offense is considerably ahead of his defense most nights.

His offense is mainly three pointers and points on the break. Defense he is very feisty and gets in opponents face. He doesn't give up on possessions.
Basically he tries hard but his offensive arsenal is seriously lacking. He is below average in talent and above average in hustle.
VERY MUCH reminds me of Najera.

I posted this in the game thread, but I am going to post this again here since I want an actual, substantive response:

Why did Pooh play 40+ minutes? What the hell is going on?

Jeter played 40+ minutes because:

1. He started for Evans, and therefore got most of his minutes.
2. Udrih played little to none of the fourth quarter, and
3. Luther Head stinks.

We lost by 20+ and Donte Greene gets 1 minute of playing time. What a joke. I hate Westfail.

as always, there is just something there. Personal or something. He treats him differently than anybody else on the team. Not that I think he makes it easy for anybody. But he is always yanking Donte's chain.

Pretty much. I just can't believe that Taylor, a guy who we traded for a few weeks ago, is now in the rotation over Greene. Just doesn't make sense...

It seems to be that almost every Boston possession was inside the paint, atleast from the little that I saw. I mean yuck, could they get any more easier than that?

This is what a team with a game plan and actual plays on offense looks like...

At one point during a timeout I could have sworn I heard Donte ask "What do you want me to do," to which Paul replied "Go home and get your shinebox." I don't know if that means anything or not.
~~

at this point there has to be something going on with Donte behind the scenes.... he really isn't improving or even contributing when he plays... hes one of the most inconsistent players we got. hes got so much talent and isn't close to getting it together.... maybe he plays around to much or, isn't putting in the effort, or doesn't have the right mind set or focus.... its gotta be something???? right????

It could be all of that. Or it could be our terrible coach. Westphal seems to have no idea what he's watching on the court, because his decision making has been at Luther Head levels. For example, watching Paul Pierce punk Cisco for 3+ quarters until the game gets well out of hand before he makes a move. Meanwhile, every single player on our team (Luther Head doesn't count) logged in at least 5 minutes in this game. Well, everyone, that is, except our best defender.

And our offense was back to that depression period of basketball we were going through a few weeks ago. Ignoring your post players with position down low, pass it away from them, take contested jumpers, iso Dalembert, etc. This game was just an assault on the eyes tonight.

It seemed like we only posted up Cousins a handful of times in the low block tonight, but we were more than happy to pass to him if he was standing out on the perimeter to take jump shots. So stupid.

A team that makes these mistakes continually over an entire season, let alone just over 48 minutes on any given night, is a reflection of the coaching. This team is incredibly frustrating to watch because you know how competitive they can be when they get it together. But there's a fix for that.

I have to agree that some of the blame needs to be shifted toward the coaching at this point. Greene not even getting a chance to put a body on Pierce was a major mistake. Maybe Donte could have slowed him down a bit. At the very least, his length would have bothered Pierce. But the fact of the matter is this team does not have enough talent to play winning basketball with arguably their best player on the bench with a tweaked ankle. The Kings bench is CBA material, so any time they lose a starter, they lose a real NBA player in the starting 5 only to be replaced with a CBA Scrub. Teams exploit the Kings weaknesses easily and the coaching staff is VERY SLOW to recognize trends and runs by the other team. I do not believe that PW is gonna make it through the entire season. The team at full strength just isnt talented enough to vie for a playoff spot. With injuries the Kings descend to a CBA level team. They say a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Well, this broken chain has many weak links. I am horrified that Petrie has chosen to not make ANY moves to bring in a REAL point guard. There are PG's available for the right price, but Petrie is dead set on waiting till after the CBA to make any changes whatsoever. If that trend continues, you can bet we will be getting screwed by Stern in the lottery again. Kings will never get higher than a 4 pick because they dont give the commish his payola before the draft. Stern is a crook. When the Kings win the first overall pick, it will be a year that wont have ANYONE worth drafting 1st overall. You can bet money on that. If the Maloofs are intent on riding this bad underpaid low talent team into the ground, then what are we as fans to do? I watch every game, so I guess I will suffer along with the rest of you guys, hoping that our young players get experience and not discouraged.

J. Taylor: 24:38 <----This should not happen.
P. Jeter: 40:53 <----This should not happen.
D. Greene: 1:25 <----This. This, right here is why I am pissed off that...(see lines above)

Paul Pierce was tearing Cisco up. I mean TEARING him apart. Greene should have been given a chance. Period. Some of the 40:53 (at least 20 minutes of it) should have been thrown at Greene.

The rotations today transformed my feelings toward Westphal from dislike to disdain. Even my girlfriend, who has watched maybe one NBA game in her life, said: "That dude is making that other dude look like a little boy. Why isn't your team fixing that?"

Ridiculous. Paul Pierce is good, but we can at least TRY to adjust. To be honest, I know you gave Cisco an F, but it's Westphal's fault for putting him in a position to get owned. I can't blame Cisco for being physically dominated by Pierce. That's not really in his control.

/Rant.

He doesn't have the talent that everybody thinks he does. Just because somebody is 6'10" and considered a guard or small forward doesn't automatically mean he's talented. I think the last part of your post is spot on. He's a goof ball. Doesn't work hard and doesn't have any motivation. It's hard to respect that. The only way that PW can get him to change his ways is to do what's he's doing to him.

I agree with this, for the most part.

The part I do not agree with is not at least trying him against Pierce. Donte has shown on several occasions that his length bothers semi-prolific SF/SG scorers. You can't un-teach length. If our team is getting slaughtered, you utilize whatever assets you have - regardless of what kind of "statement" you are trying to make. Keeping Cisco or the Pooh/Beno lineup was hurting the team.

Pooh Jeter is too small to defend anybody in the NBA. When Nate Robinson can shoot over you easily, and you constantly choose to throw passes between 3 defenders, you should not be playing 40 minutes. Also, does anyone else notice that Samuel Dalembert gets the ball inside more so than Cousins? Hell if we would stop using Cousins as a pick and pop player and actually get the ball to him down low we'd easily get at least 15 points a game from him. But no, we choose to use him as Brad Miller 2.0.

Cousins needs to step up his rebounding. I saw several plays where the ball went inside to either JT or Landry and Cousins was all the way outside standing around the 3 point line. You're not going to get rebounds that way.

I can't wait to get some real NBA players on this team. Honestly, you have very poor depth if Pooh Jeter is playing consistent minutes on your team.

I do not believe that PW is gonna make it through the entire season.

If he hasn't been fired by now, he is not going to fire before the season ends. The Maloofs are just not going to spend the money after paying 2 other coaches not not to coach. Firing Theus didn't improve the win total or attendance, so I expect them just to stick it out. Unfortunately that means we are going to get to watch PW try his hardest to get fired for the rest of the season.

For fun, going to 82games.com and looking at 5 man units, our most played unit has the lowest minutes in the entire league.
As of 1/6 Udrih-Evans-Casspi-Landry-Dalembert had played 102.3 minutes together. Most of the other teams in the league have a starting unit that has played at least 200+ minutes together. The Lakers Fisher-Bryant-Artest-Odom-Gasol have played as of 1/6 594.4 minutes together. The only ones who comes close to us are the Wizards/Bucks/Raptors. What makes this so puzzeling is I saw that the had lost the third fewest games due to injury:
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=18214

At least the Bucks have the excuse they are tied for 2nd and the Wizards made a midseason trade. I am not sure what the Raptors excuse is. Also does anyone know what the record is for most starting lineups in a season? I think we must be pretty much a lock for breaking it this year.

Edit: Found it, 42

Well we are at 16 with 46 games to go.

You have to be kidding! Yep, that Najera is one hell of a three pt shooter.. what the hell have you been smoking?

I think Greene is an over sized kid who just wants to have fun but also coincidently has some basketball skill. I doubt very much that Greene has that burning desire to become a star; the burning desire that drives him to the practice facility in the middle of the night. I suspect he got on the bad side of Westphal when he showed up weighing 260 pounds. I think Greene finally met a guy as immature as he is. I COULD be a Greene fan and actually care about what he is going but don't. I really don't care as he doesn't seem to care. I don't see Greene going anywhere because of his free spirit attitude.

BUT ...... Westphal's use of him is revealing his childish side. He starts people with 10 seconds of action in the last half year yet ignores a guy who may never be a star but is clearly the better basketball player than a 1/3 of the team. Greene will always have a place on someone's bench but this may be putting the nail in the coffin containing Westphal's career.

I haven't seen Brick's analysis of Dalembert but I have noticed something odd. He isn't in the offensive flow which is appropriate but when he gets the ball, his shot seems to be improving. He actually seems to have an offense. On the defensive end, especially in the zone, he gets beaten over and over. People blow by him by sneaking in behind. I think he's improving with minutes as most players do. Remember, he had no training camp. He will never really get comfortable as he will never get the minutes he needs. We all know he is gone at the end of the year and as this year is merely a tryout year for bench players to see if they are on the team next year, he won't get more minutes. So, his offense is better and his defense is worse. Some day the moon will be seen at noon and the sun at midnight. Just about as predictable.

Now pull out the stats to prove me wrong. :)
