I'm sure my take will be interpreted as "negative" but I 'm not too impressed by this win. It took Salmons finally showing up to do it and they still tried their hardest to give the game away in the 4th with stupid mistakes. It wasn't a convincing win.

Damn it rookie.. if you really wanted to be negative you would have brought up Portland's atrocious road record.

Give what a rest? If you have a problem with me, I suggest you use the ignore function because I ain't changing.

I would like to have heard the Portland announcers, they constantly trash this team, as if their team is winning an NBA title anytime soon. Portland is very inconsitent, and basically take advantage of having a fortress for a home court, like the Jazz. I give the Jazz credit though, they play good team basketball with really no star to speak of. Good win for us tonight with defense. We won with none of our stars having great games.

What has me stoked more than anything with this win is the fact we got positive contributions from 7 guys tonight. In other words a TEAM win rather than having to depend on a Demarcus 21pt 15 board+ 30-10-9 game from Reke to even have a chance at winning a game. It's a really great sight to see the role guys stepping up and hopefully they continue this throughout the year

your posts are really starting to make me laugh. and i don't say that sarcastically. i mean it. i think you're legitimately funny, though i imagine it is an unintentional brand of funny. really, you strike me as the kinda guy who would have argued that the world was flat until you were blue in the face...

any win against a playoff team is a good win when you're a basement dweller, no matter how "convincing." young, ****ty teams don't exude confidence without cause. they have to claw, scrape, and ugly-ball their way outta losing streaks. its healthy, because not every game is going to come easy. if you learn how to win the close, ugly ones, it gets a lot easier to win the games you actually should win...

This win may do more harm than good. Reasons:

-Keeps John Salmons as a starter alive for a few more games
-Lets Thornton off the hook for chucking and degrading the progress the rest of the team had made in team offense
-A lot of bad defense again
-Change in rotation seems odd. I was fine with Outlaw not playing. Fine with Jimmer getting some time.

I think the team actually played better versus Utah and then broke down in the end. This is a game versus a Blazers team that is awful on the road and it was still nearly thrown away.

1. It's not like we know for sure that Salmons would be outta the starting 5 if he didn't play well tonight.. Sounds like guess-work
2. Thornton can't be the fall guy here. He just came back. He's very important to this team, like it or not. He'll be fine.
3. We always suck at defense, that's just who we are. We lack identity and can't really play team D yet.
4. Meh

That's fine. I'm not at all worried about how I'm perceived by others. It's beyond my control. It's fine that you feel "any win against a playoff team is a good win when you're a basement dweller" but why do you need others to feel that way as well?

This Salmons is the one we were hoping to get when we traded for him. Play good D, pick his spots, make his shots and generally stay out of the way. Hope it continues.

Never defend a witch, or you'll be tried as a witch yourself.

I don't care, I'll let people know how I feel whether they like it or not.

The glass is either half full or half empty, and as much as I love the Kings, they are on the sucky end of the spectrum lately. That's just the way it is.

Unlike many people here, I don't need all that positive sunshine blown up my a**.

I agree with your negative take on the issues surrounding the Kings, and if agreeing with you is what will get my account banned, then that's what I'll just have to live with

Stay real budstickles!

The Utah game may have been better, but this is the third solid competitive game in a row we've played, we've got our guys back mostly, and we have 3 weak opponents coming up. This thing may be turning.

I actually like this win. Guys were playing with heart and determination near the end. Stupid mistakes still being made but one thing is the Kings playing defensively well. Its a good lesson IMO. If you can't beat them offensively than try to beat them defensively, which was what they did. For a couple of minutes I believe in the 4th, they couldn't score but they defended Portland well.

Yes very good win agaisnt a hard nosed physical VETERAN team. The Kings played very good defense except for a couple of lapses where the Blazers got loose for back door cuts and a couple drives to the hoop. Having the GOOD Salmons and Hayes back on the court together gives much needed defense and veteran leadership.

A note to the naysayers: If you are not going to accept "excuses" after the losses, why make them after a win? :) Enjoy the win.

4 of the next 5 are below .500. The only current playoff team is the Thunder and the big night. After that is a 6 game road trip with great chance to break even very winnable games at NY, Detroit and Washington. Throw in an improved Cleveland team as winnable game. If they can pull it of they will be in decent shape heading into March and their 8 game homestand against mostly middling teams.

I find the lament at this not being a "convincing" win laughable. We have the youngest team in the league, a coaching change already, half the team is new this year, a lockout, several starters injured during the short training camp we did have, a coach who wasn't apparently teaching our players anything at all (or coaching) until a few weeks ago, the most road games so far of any team.......and people are complaining about a win against a tough veteran playoff team???

News flash - we aren't the Lakers, or Heat, or any other great team right now. We are a young team with players finally getting some coaching. Any win is a good win.

I think some folks would complain if someone gave them a million bucks because it was in ones instead of twenties. SMH

I did hear them for about a quarter.. the 4th. At the beginning of the 4th quarter they said Tyreke can't hit the side of a barn with his jumpshot and consistently criticized him. I found it quite satisfying for him to hit a jumper right in their face to put the game out of reach. All they said was "Evans with the jumpshot." Karma at its finest

i don't. again, i just think its funny, because you're the only one who seems to feel differently. i haven't been around kingsfans.com much in the last couple of years, so i either don't remember or can't keep track of which posters maintain which attitudes, but your devil's advocate schtick as i've perceived it is approaching garish self-parody...

;)

its good to be back, but it should be noted that all of the facts as presented in warhawk's post above are spot on. the youngest team in the nba, with a host of new players, and competing in a lockout shortened season, is making marginal, incremental, relevant improvements. most young teams don't have the trajectory of oklahoma city, because most teams don't have kevin durant playing on the wing. most young teams have a trajectory more like the kings' current one: lose, lose, and lose some more until they turn the corner. dunno when turning the corner is practically going to occur for this kings team, but lamenting a win against a playoff team because it wasn't "convincing" is some bizarro world ****. its like rock stars complaining about newfound fame. i certainly grant you your right to feel that way, though. lament away, dear sir!!

because you're the only one who seems to feel differently.

Demonstrably untrue. Not that it matters one way or other, as agreement from others is not something I seek. If people happen to agree with me, fine. But if no one agrees with me, that’s fine too. I don’t require that my opinion be validated or supported by others.

but your devil's advocate schtick as i've perceived it is approaching garish self-parody...

“Devil’s advocate” implies one is adopting a view that one does not really hold merely for the sake of argument. If you’ve interpreted me that way, you’re mistaken. I’m reporting how I actually feel, my real opinions, etc. It’s odd that you seem to have trouble believing or understanding that someone could really have views that much different from your own.

but it should be noted that all of the facts as presented in warhawk's post above are spot on.

I’ve not seen anyone deny or even demonstrate that they weren’t aware of those facts. In fact, they’re so plainly obvious that pointing them out ad nauseam is a bit like telling folks the sky is blue over and over.

As if one couldn’t feel that last night’s win wasn’t convincing and be aware of those facts.

You're really making it easy, you know. Quit stirring the pot or face the consequences ... again.

I'm confused about how the above quote would elicit your response. It seems rather bland to me.

I think they were talking to the person who agreed with me. It's still puzzling and a bit comical that such a tame comment caused an uproar, though.

Haha, great point.

I think we've finally reached that "scrappy, with occasionally brutal setbacks, but starting to turn things around" phase of the rebuild that we SHOULD have been in two years ago *cough* westphalsetusback *cough*.

I also think Smart is the perfect coach for this phase. He's not great, but he's actually teaching our guys and we're seeing improvement across the board. Also, RE: Bricklayers fears that a rift might form between Smart and DMC because of the 4th quarter benching..Apparently Smart is a people person, and great communicator. So I have a little bit more faith in him to keep a good relationship going than Paul "Why are you talking to me? Dont make me go to the media and throw you under the bus again!" Westphal.

Good scraptacular win.
