Got my wisdom teeth out

#1
Last Friday afternoon. Wasn't that bad at first, the initial swelling went down overnight, and I was doing alright on Saturday. A little sore, but I had braces before, so that's not anything new. That night, though, the swelling started coming back, and Sunday, I looked like a blowfish. It's been going down, and I'm back to normal, or close to it, now. Chewing a little more, still taking ibuprofen for the swelling and soreness, and only took two Vicodin throughout the entire ordeal.

Here's the problem. They used that new-fangled disappearing thread to close everything up, the kind that's supposed to dissolve on it's own, but it feels like it's unraveling in my mouth. I don't want to pull on it, but it's kind of hanging from my upper gums in a very distracting manner. What should I do?

I'm pretty sure that's ok, I had a similar problem after my root canal and gum scraping (which reminds me I'm waaaaay overdue for the rest of my work).

If you're really concerned call your dentist/oral surgeon and they will tell you if you need to be concerned. I think I did come in and they cut the extra thread out, but I didn't have to.

That swelling doesn't sound normal =/ Then again I'm a big baby and have only done one wisdom tooth at a time.

The last tooth a I had extracted the sutures they used hanged down like yours, the "knot" and extra length just ended up coming out after a few days when the wound started to close and heal.

I was kinda concerned about the swelling, but I had the follow up appt Monday morning, and they said not to worry about it. I had my face in ice all Sunday, and it didn't work; maybe it kept me from swelling more, but it certainly didn't bring it down. They told me to stop icing it and just use heat to ease the soreness, and that worked great.
