Hayward looked pretty nice last night. I think he’s going to be perfectly fine next year. He’s not going to be catching lobs again, but he’ll be back to his borderline All-Star production on the right team. I do not think Boston would be the right team. So, two assumptions, we strike out on the premium 3/4 free agents and Boston makes the decision to re-tool the roster around Tatum and find Hayward a nice new home so they don’t get slammed by media/agents. The proposed trade would be, mostly just taking Hayward into space...at most we flip them Bogi. Thoughts? And just to reiterate, Boston does this because if Hayward does struggle for them again early next year then things get really, really ugly with their fanbase and they’ll be forced to move Hayward. This is risk mitigation for them more than anything. Pick up a nice player like Bogi, and maybe some change, now while they can. And again, they can’t just offload Hayward to the highest bidder because they will get torched and never sign another free agent so long as Danny is there.
Starting and crunch time 5 would be:
Fox
Buddy
Barnes
Hayward
Bagley
That’s a lot of smart defenders/ball movers who can shoot, creating a ton of space for Bagley and Fox to operate. Might be a little small against some teams, and probably still not quite as chippy as I would like, but would be just a really sharp cohesive unit. Obviously, Barnes/Hayward would leave an imbalanced cap for the next two years, but they come off or get extended prior to Bagley/Fox getting maxed.
