Golden State Kool-Aid Men™ lose in Portland

The Kool-Aid Men™ blew a double-digit lead, shooting something like 3/30 in the fourth quarter. Portland gave them some hope, however, missing seven straight free throws down the stretch, until Abdur-Rahim settled them down at the line.

Interesting game; Golden State played without Richardson, but Portland played without Randolph and Ratliff. Abdur-Rahim and Stoudamire totally carried the Blazers.

This was a scrappy game, lots of missed point-blank layups. First the Blazers were bad, then the Warriors chimed in with many of their own.

I have got to believe that the missed point-blank layup must be the most humiliating shot missed for an NBA player, no contest.

I know somewhere I can find a stat for missed point-blank layups (seems to be a favorite of mine), but I forgot where. VF21 referenced it a few days ago, but I can't remember where. Anybody help?

I recall some Nets player having a half court in front of him and Chick Hearn saying, "He's saying to himself, 'Don't let me miss it!...Don't let me miss it!...and he MISSED IT!" Dude lost the ball. :)

And therein lies the problem. Too much thinking.:D

Maybe www.82games.com or www.basketballreference,com ? Both have tons of fantastic information - I'd check 82 games first.

Thanks for the resources. I spent some time in 82 games, but couldn't find the stat I was looking for (point-blank layup mades/missed).

But I did see this there, it's Game Charting by Ed Peterson. Peterson tracks deep stats specifically for the King's, here are the links:

http://www.82games.com/sacplays.htm (Production by Play Type)
http://www.82games.com/saccon.htm (Open/Contested Shots)
http://www.82games.com/sacdee.htm (The Kings Play Defense)

Anyway, many of you probably already know about this site. Sadly, I'm not a numbers orientated thinker (but I TOTALLY appreciate those of you who are, thank you very much for your amazing info!) but I thought I'd pass it along to anyone else who doesn't know, like me, who may be interested.

Kool Aid Men... Kool Aid Men... Kool Aid Men... Hm... Can't quite crack that reference.
If you'd seen the jerseys they were wearing last night, you wouldn't be asking that question.

im really not diggin these new jerseys that some teams are wearin. all the bright neon-like colors. denver started it, and for some reason, it took off. theyre far too bright and really gross, if ya ask me. gimme the old black road unis the kings used to wear any day. those were sweet.

Don't forget those light green alternative Dallas Mavs jerseys!

I'm totally not into the retro jersey's either, I can never remember which team color is home! It takes at least a quarter of play to be able to associate which team is in which unis, I hate that.

Retro Jearsey's are a pure marketing ploy to sell more jerseys, for more money to more fans (some of who really should have higher priorites than $200 jersys) Oh well as I rage at the machine it keeps turning my beloved sport into a shoping mall with action.

I laugh internally when I see someone wearing a 80s Bullets or Nuggets jersey. Those old browny Astros and Padres jerseys are even worse. I think to myself, 'Yeah, right'. Seems like the uglier the retro jersey, the worse the team played back in the day.

Not to mention that the Nuggets wore these numbers until 1993. Hardly retro...

I agree with EVERY THING you just said. Alex English could play ball but his jersey is about as ugly an NBA jersey as you could find.

I'm a fuddy-duddy, but afaic, the only person who should wear such a thing with pride is an actual Nuggets fan of the 80s. Even if I was an 80s Nuggets fan, I'd rather find a way to pay homage to Doug Moe. Moe ruled. Frank Layden too.

i think the retro thing is kinda overdone at this point. i do like the kings unis from the 70's. theyre pretty sweet. but i'm still a much bigger fan of the last jerseys we had. ya know which one's i'm talkin bout....the one's we started this sacramento era with. it'd be sweet if they brought those back...
