2008 12 ??????????
2007 10 Spencer Hawes
2006 19 Quincy Douby
2005 23 Francisco Garcia
2004 26 Kevin Martin
2001 25 Gerald Wallace
2000 16 Hidayet Turkoglu
1998 7 Jason Williams
1997 11 Tariq Abdul-Wahad
1996 14 Predrag Stojakovic
1995 13 Corliss Williamson

I'd say hes looking pretty strong with the draft... the only Busts being Tarq Abdul-Wahad, and probably or at least so far Quincy Douby...

Petrie took a big gamble on Douby hoping that if he could at least develop to be an avg. PG with lights out shooting... maybe he saw a little Bobby Jackson in him... I don't fault Petrie for this mistake, Douby probably did have the best offensive game compared to to the true PG's left on the board... Farmar, Williams, Rondo, Rodriguez... But he was wrong and Farmar, Rondo, and Rodriguez turned out to be very solid... Im sure Petrie learned from his mistake and wont pull another Douby anytime soon...

OK but back to the overall outlook on Petrie's ability to scout talent for the draft... He's considered one of the best GM's year in and year out for a reason... Hes good...

the only thing that worries me about Petrie was the long wait to rebuild... (which probably was more maloofs than him) and his willingness to pay way too much money to vets and for too many years. (which could also have been the maloofs trying to throw patches on this team)

However as long as we don't over pay to keep Beno then i'd say we turned the corner.

one last little tid bit... Petrie's never... NEVER... had anyluck in the sec. round... I hope he's looking to trade those picks for another 1st, future 1st or anything other than just keeping the picks...

Well, I am glad we didn't take Rodriguez.. He left the Grizzlies back to Europe.

Doesn't Portland own his rights?? Oh, and to the OP, Douby was drafted 19th.

Looking back at that draft, there are 5 or 6 guys that I wanted Petrie to take ahead of Douby. And I can't believe Powe fell to 49th. Good find for the Celtics, he should be a good player for a while

Juan Carlos Navarro was the Grizzly that just went back to his Spanish team. Segio Rodriquez is a spaniard too, but he currently plays point guard for the Portland Trailblazers...

While there are some players here, almost all get the label of soft or underwhelming defenders.

One could argue J-Will was a bust....seeing as how Paul Pierce, Dirk Nowitzki, and Rashard Lewis were all selected behind him, but he did provide some magical years as well as enable us to get Mike Bibby which nearly gave us the title so.......

I believe that Petrie's first draft was in 1994, when he drafted Brian Grant in the first round and took Michael ( the animal ) Smith and also Lawrence Funderburke in the second round. Also in 1997 in the second round he drafted Anthony Johnson. But your right, other than those few its been less than stellar in the second round.

Well we already had Peja playing SF that eliminates Pierce... and we already had C-Webb the eliminates Dirk and Lewis. We drafted for Needs and PG was the way to go... and yes it did turn into Bibby and if we weren't jacked from winning a title(refs and lucky Horry) we never would have questioned Petrie again!

i thought he picked Grant but wasn't totally sure... so i left it out... Grant hung around for a little while though... just suffered too many injurys.
