Garcia at the 3?

#1
I am willing to bet that Garcia will play the three a lot more than most people think. When Peja needs a break Garcia would play it. I think it can create some match-up problems for teams with slow 3's. With BJ/Bibby at the 1 and 2 or KM/bibby w/ Garcia at the 3 it could be a nice change up through out the season. It is also a good way to give KM/Garcia more playing time instead of one on the bench.....Just my opinion. ;)

I don't think that will work well in the NBA except against very specific opponents. Its a very physical game at the NBA level, and he would get bounced around something fierce most nights. Even against softer opponents he'd still be giving up 40lbs against most guys, and as much as 60lbs + inches against the bigger guys.

Spot minutes perhaps against a blown up OG playing out of position, but we really can't afford to be any softer than we already are. Still, this is the same team that was tryng to play Corliss Williamson at center last year, so who knows.

I heard, somewhere on this board, that Petrie has already decided Garcia
doesn't fit and is looking for a trade.

Any more news on this?

It seems a bit early for him to be saying that.

You might want to look at the intended sarcasm in that post.

i say we make a few trades. sign 1 or 2 guys. at most put 2 new faces in the starting lineup. the start of the season is about making adjustments and finding out what works. i like martin and i like garcia. i wanna see how they do in a few NBA games this comming season.

i agree, of course this is all relative to what Garcia does, and what his weight will be at season start.

i compiled a list of sf 's who were in the west last year, its no where near comprehensive, but its a good sample:

maggette 6-6 225
mcGrady 6-8 210
darius miles 6-9 210
mike miller 6-8 218
najera 6-8 235
odom 6-10 230
patterson 6-6 223
mickael Pietrus 6-6 215
posey 6-8 215
glenn robinson 6-7 240
bryon russel 6-7 225
simmons 6-6 228
sprewell 6-5 195
stackhouse 6-6 218
szczerbiak 6-7 235
van horn 6-10 240
walt williams 6-8 230
weatherspoon 6-7 270
george lynch 6-8 225
c. anthony 6-8 220
shane battier 6-8 220
bruce bowen 6-7 217
cabarkapa 6-11 225
cheaney 6-7 210
m. daniels 6-6 200
dunleavy 6-9 230
finley 6-7 225
garnett 7 220
george 6-8 240
harpring 6-7 231
josh howard 6-7 210
juwan howard 6-9 230
kris humphries 6-9 235
j. jackson 6-6 220
casey jacobsen 6-6 220
dermarr johnson 6-9 201
joe johnson 6-7 230
jumaine jones 6-8 218
kirilenko 6-9 225
rashard lewis 6-10 215

i got an average of about 223.1, which means he'll be giving up 30 lbs. Definitely would have trouble in the post, but who knows could be very good on the perimeter, especially those sf 's who face up.

well against certain teams he could do it.... well, at the time the...

suns-jj/qrich
lakers-butler
clippers-simmons/maggette
mavs-daniels/stackhouse/howard
spurs-bowen
twolves-spree/hassel/wally

i dont see how he couldnt guard any of these guys for 5-7 minutes.... they are all about 6'6, i think all of them are except wally and howard..... and bowen plays defense, i wouldnt be worried about him, hell bibby could guard him....

Only in Kingsland is our fist reaction to finally getting a guy with good size for his position to automatically try to switch him to someplace he can be undersized/undermuscled.

Sam Amick was on 1140 earlier from Las Vegas. He said the Kings played a scrimmage against the Blazers yesterday which was very much like a regular summer league game. He said that Garcia has been struggling with his shot the first 3 days and is visibly upset when he makes mistakes. He also said that he has a ways to go before he learns the offense. Just keep in mind this kid is still a college player and has quite a bit to learn and develop before he can contribute. He needs to build on what he can do. Lets not throw him into the SF spot and make his transition even tougher.

So true. But I have found myself doing it as well, so I am guilty.

Gezz, my reason for this post was to find ways for Garcia and KM to gain experience and maximize their talent at the same time, while causing mismatches for the other team. NOT to change his position and make like suck for Garcia...lol lighten guys....

Realize that a switch to the 3 would only happen in certain times of the game...... where it could help us...the KINGS.....and would hurt....the OPPONENT.....and Not put Garcia at the three and make him guard Antoine Walker or whomever.

Well im still on your side, when playing teams like the spurs and mavs Garcia could play the 3, assuming he doesnt turn into a dud. Only in Kingsland do you get a bunch of over eager posters looking to tear you to shreds for posting an idea.

He gets visibly upset because he's an intense guy. He cares about mistakes. Then he gathers himself and creates a TO on the defensive end. We need more guys like that.

Well, luckily for us, we have time to learn just what role Cisco is going to be able to play with the Kings. And that's a good thing!
