Future of our frontcourt

How does everyone see our front court playing out in the next year or two?

In the long term who do we hold in higher regard...Landry or JT?

With these two C/PF's we drafted does it assure us that Dally plays one year for us and we let him go or we trade him?

And of course what about Brockman?

It seems to me Brockman is gonna be back regardless but no minutes really unless Whiteside is too raw to be getting much playing time.

dalembert is a one year rental unless he plays out of his mind
I agree, also Landry will be expensive next year and we really will not need his services anymore. I can see us doing a bunch of trades at the deadline for teams going into the playoffs that need size and scoring.

Whiteside -> DL + weight room
Dalembert/Cousins: C
JT/Landry: PF
5th big: Brockman

I'm not going to say it's what'll happen, but I think it makes sense. Next year we could lose a couple of those guys, so we may as well develop and use those we can now.

We are F****** SET for the decade to come.:D

Bynum/Gasol match-up...No problem.

Gortat/Howard match-up...no problem.

We just needed to wait for both our twin towers Cousins and Whiteside to develop.:D

Westphallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.......don't mess it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All good questions. And frankly I wish we could just freeze things the way they are. Dalembert probably only stays the one year now, but I liked that acquisition, and once he's gone you are actually down to only 1 major shotblocker, and a very raw one at that (Whiteside). Brockman is clearly overshadowed (literally), yet I like him as a 12th man type. Lanry or JT may have to go now, and yet Landry's toughness and scoring are things you could see on a top team, and JGT makes a classic 4/5 combo guy off the bench. I'm going to hate to see any of them go unless we bring back a serious poiece in return, but long term you figure no more than half those guys will be here in 3 yers.

The way I see it is that both Thompson and Landry played better off the bench last year. I do think Demarcus is ready to start immediately and be an impact player, he's very polished. Dalembert I like to start too, he's quick and athletic enough to play PF.

For next year:

PF: Dalembert/Landry
C: Cousins/JT

Injury/Foul trouble insurance: Brockman
Practice squad/D-League: Whiteside

But down the line I can see Hassan developing into a ridiculously long and rangy 4, to block shots, rebound and hit the open jumper. I don't see us retaining Dalembert for next year, he's 30 and probably wants to go to a contender.

2010/11:
JT/Landry
Cousins/Whiteside

Injury/foul trouble insurance: Brockman
Practice squad/D-League: Insert big man here

2011/12:
Whiteside/Landry
Cousins/JT

Injury/foul trouble insurance: Brockman
Practice squad/D-League: Insert big man here

I Love Landry's game so I definitely wouldn't mind us having to open the check books to resign him. He's only 26 and if he always keeps that motor running to get it done inside he will be a workhorse well into his 30's, plus he has that outside jumper on lock. He has the mentality of a winner and you have no choice but to keep that type of player around.

Dalembert regardless of how he performs this year I really don't see him being apart of the long term front court. He's gonna be 30 and I really don't see the point in throwing big money at him if Cousins actually proves to be a legit baller. Hopefully when it comes to JT he keeps improving and working hard because I can def see him sticking here for a couple years as our backup Center.

If Cousins and Whiteside are brought along slowly and given the time to mature they are clearly capable of being our starting front court of the future.

My guess is Cousins/Whiteside/Thompson will be the the front court thats still around in 3+ years.

This is my guess too. I love Landry, but I'll stick with JT for the long term, at least as of right now. However, I wouldn't be totally shocked if Landry and Sam are part of this team 3 years down the road.

Our front court is now stacked, so excited.

What I see happening this year:

Dalembert and Landry will be the starters and compliment one another well. Landry will be free to score down on the blocks and spotting up outside with Dalembert picking up garbage points on putbacks and gimmies from Tyreke collapsing the defense. Likewise Dalembert's rebounding will mask Carl's deficiency in that department. Both make nice pick and roll options for Beno and Evans. A nice pairing IMO.

Thompson will be the first big off the bench and will spell both positions though spending more time at the PF. I like him with both Landry and Dalembert.

Cousins will be given a few minutes at center to start the season with that number growing as the season moves along. I think he will eventually be getting pretty good minutes and may even flirt with starting before hitting the rookie wall hard just before the all-star break. But if things go well he should again be starting before the end of the season and looking like the Kings starting center for the next decade.

Brockman will by and large be a practice/garbage time player, getting bigger minutes when injuries pop up and occasionally stealing Cousin's minutes if the rookie is not giving the effort Westphal wants to see.

Whiteside will not play in more than a handful of games this season. He SHOULD spend most of it in the D-League. He has a myriad of things to work on (gaining strength, offensive repertoire, consistency of effort and especially court awareness) before he'll ever play meaningful NBA minutes. He'd get much more out of playing every night in the D-League than riding the pine all season.

And that's all assuming no major injuries, trades etc.

As for the future, who knows? Again, assuming no trades the two guys that I think will start this season will both be free agents.

I think that the team will be looking to bring back Dalembert as a backup for a reasonable price but he strikes me as a player that would leave for a terrible team if he had the chance to start and that's what I see happening.

I think the team will want Landry back and the feeling will be mutual. I see him resigning for a bit more than he probably should but a reasonable deal nonetheless.

I think this is a make or break year for Thompson. Either way I think he'll be in the league a long time but I think this season determines whether it will be as an above average starter at PF or as a 3rd or 4th big man who provides some versatility and rebounding. Best case scenario has him establishing himself to start alongside Cousins which frees Landry up to be a high energy 6th man and first big off the bench - a role he thrives in.

Cousins certainly has bust potential but contrary to my generally pessimistic nature I see him being an ideal partner for Tyreke and giving the Kings the second star they need to really develop into a contender. He'll be a bit frustrating defensively, but he'll be a monster on the boards and reliable scorer down low and even on pick and pop situations.

Brockman is the kind of hustle player every team loves to have. He's expendable but I'd like to see him stick around.

I have a hard time envisioning Whiteside developing. He just seems too clueless to me to ever be a factor in this leage. Could he become a Camby/Chandler type player? Maybe, but he trails so far behind both of them in terms of feel for the game and effort level. I see him washing out of the NBA after a few teams try vainly to wring that tantalizing potential out of him. I'd love to be wrong here because a long athletic shotblocker/rebounder who can finish in transition and hit a few shots and score in the post a bit would be a PERFECT compliment to Cousins.

That's how I see things anyway.

The thing about Whiteside is that he only has three years of organized basketball under his belt. So not having a great feel for the game right now doesn't concern me so much. Now if the guy had been playing since he was 10, then yeah, I wouldn't be as hopeful.

Dalembert should be traded for some backcout help during the deadline or next offseason. Cousins could be a full time starter at center next season and I think Whiteside will develop nicely as long as we give him some PT. I think we should keep Landry and try to resign him. He's a very tough and skilled player and he'd be an all star PF if he were a few inches taller.

I also think Carl is really much better as a sixth man. He will really murder the second units of opposing teams. I prefer our future frontcourt rotation to be like this.

PF:

Landry
Thompson

Center

Cousins
Whiteside

with Brockman serving as the much needed "back-up".

What do you guys think?

I dont think theres anyway we should trade dalembert. Simply let him walk after next season and we'll be around 13 million richer. Who knows, we may be able to resign him at a bargain price.

I think our frontcourt will look like:

Dalambert/Cousins/Whiteside
JT/Landry/Whiteside

I don't think Dalambert gets traded he's a nice expiring piece for us in the off-season.

JT and Landry has the possibility of being traded due to his contract and upside.

I think whom we keep between the two depends on how they play this season. If JT looks like the player we thought he could be 2 seasons ago and even middle of last season then he will stay and Landry will go if not JT is traded and we resign Landry.

Whiteside will be given a chance to develop at his own pace, he'll get to learn and get minutes when he can and earn more minutes by himself.

We could however just decide to keep all players until end of the year which I won't be against. Let Dally and Landry expire and try to resign them in offseason if we wish or just let them go on their ways in which case we'll have $15.2 million expiring between those two on top of what we might/probably should have left over and what would be enough next season to go after a max FA at least.
