Fox Watch 2025-26

Btw, it's funny as hell to see Huerter shooting like 29% from three after he threw major shade at the Kings for "running the same sets" as if diversifying the offense would make a difference for him. He and HB are both washed and Fox is still Jekyll and Hyde from game to game
 
Based on what I gather, I would have prioritized keeping Brown and Fox, and traded Domas for rotational depth. Fox was the guy for us, and when I hear about Brown losing players like Domas, I think the players should have manned up and dealt. We were winning and I had no expectation to immediately become a Playoff team every year. That 46 win season was satisfactory for where we were at. I feel like win now mentalities are causing many teams and players to make weak decisions.

Except Fox had been here for years and it was Domas that actually helped get us winning when he arrived. I still think that overall, when both players were healthy, Domas did more to help the team win than Fox did. Triple doubles at the drop of a hat, a double-double machine, setting screens, rebound leader, etc. Those are not "empty calories". Fox only showed up when he felt like it. If Fox was on 100% of the time, that would be a different story. But he wasn't.

I really hate pitting player against player and will treasure the 18 months or so of good times we all had.

I just really wish people in his camp didn't try to turn fans against Domas to save face after the trade demand. It would have made forgiving him down the road a lot more palpable.

I'm not disparaging Fox as much as admiring what Domas provides in my response. I really liked Fox. Just wish he had that drive to function at 90%+ all the time, instead of only in 4th quarters.

Sure but around the fandom as a whole it seems sides have been chosen. I just really feel for Domas, if you don't feel like he is a #1 or even #2 guy hey that's fine, but I just see nothing to suggest he quit on the team or otherwise brought dysfunction. And if he did why isn't it coming from more than one source?
 
Fox finally plays a full four-quarter game and it pays off with a big road win versus the Celtics. 21/9/6, leading the team in scoring (tied with Wembanyama) and assists.

I think what impressed me most about Fox's performance tonight was that, down the stretch, he was looking for Wembanyama first, rather than looking for his own shot first, and he still got the chance to make some clutch plays.
 
The shooting numbers for this trio are beyond putrid right now. From the Spurs Board:


“Man, Fox+Castle+Harper have been ridiculously bad offensively for a long stretch now. More than just a couple game funk. All 3 simultaneously tanking on offense was not something I expected.

Where is Fox to right the ship? Thats what we paid for.”
 
Fox scored or assisted in the last 9 points for the Spurs tonight. It was Wemby who missed shots at the end.

He "righted their ship" by coming up with key clutch plays in their last win against the Celts. At this point in his career, he is who he is, not the most consistent guy but more often than not steps up in key moments.

In fairness to his critics, he was pretty much dog**** for the first 43 minutes. But yeah, he was doing what he was supposed to do, as far as looking for Wembanyama first down the stretch, and Wemby's the one who came up short.
 
Another patented Fox performance: slept-walked through most of the first three quarters, then had 8/3/3 of his 17/3/7 in the fourth quarter to help the Spurs win on the second night of a back-to-back.

He's probably been allowed to do whatever he wants on a basketball court for the last 8 years because everyone just wants to keep him happy. Eventually he'll either get serious and realize there's more to winning a title than just being talented or he won't and we'll see how far "Nellie Ball" can take them.
