Ford: kings completely shunned by agents

Oh, I see the criticism now. That's a stupid criticism considering a lot of the top 5-7 prospects have not worked out for many teams....

I assumed our criticism was lack of players actually wanting to work out for the team. Apparently we worked out Robert Carter Jr too, but that still only gives us 2 players in the top 60.

I think Ford is right that many of the top prospects and their agents do not want to come here, but they'll have no choice at the end. Draft is getting intense with all the Celts/Sixers rumors right now. Hopefully at 8, the Kings can grab a top 10 prospect.

Yeah, it's people piling on the Kings because they've gotten used to Sacramento being their punching bag.

Whether I like it or not, top 10 players are barely working out at all anymore. Skipping the combine entirely or just getting measured and skipping athletic testing let alone playing 5-on-5, no competitive workouts, not releasing medical records to teams they don't want to go to, refusing to workout for any teams below their idea of where their draft floor "should" be etc.

I mean, Petrie had Tyreke Evans, Steph Curry, Johnny Flynn (who at the time was projected as a top 10 pick), Patty Mills, Toney Douglas and one other PG (Calathes?) in a single draft workout and they went at each other. In fact, that seems to be what made up Geoff's mind to draft Tyreke as he just physically dominated the others. You'd never see that workout today. Three top ten picks in live, competitive action against one another? Nope.

Hell, the Sixers barely got the #1 pick in for a limited workout a couple days before the draft. For better or worse teams are really just using tape to evaluate guys with the combine being a place to get measurements, medical info and have a chance to interview these kids.

But let's not pretend like the Celtics had Simmons & Murray playing 2-on-2 with Ingram and Dunn while the Kings twiddled their thumbs. EVERY team is struggling to get the kind of info that they used to get much more easily before agents "protected" their clients to such a ridiculous extent.

For what it's worth, Jaylen Brown was directly asked if he'd like to play in Sacramento during media day yesterday and he said that he liked Vlade and Peja, he'd love to play with Rondo, one of his mentors is Shareef Abdur-Rahim who obviously has close ties to Sacramento, and it's close enough to Cal Berkely that he can easily continue taking classes there when he has the time. He's also the one player without an agent -- but we at least know that two of the top 10 players (the other being Marquese Chriss) have said that they liked to play in Sacramento.

I'm sure to an extent that's just a kid trained to not say anything negative about a potential destination, but it was also somewhat encouraging.

And maybe it's just me starting to talk myself into the guys I think are most likely at #8 in Brown and possible Baldwin but I really like how Jaylen Brown comes across in interviews and how he conducts himself. He doesn't currently show a great feel for the game, but he is an intelligent young man and I think that helps.

We'll see. I just hope the Kings finish today a better team than they started it.

What was encouraging to me to is that is wasn't just a canned answer. Most of these prospects are so busy with their own workouts and draft preparations that they really aren't paying attention to what every team in the league is doing. He knows our front office staff, he knows who was on the team last year, and he knows where we are geographically which is better than most! :)

Makes you wonder what we said to him since he knew that much about us....

I love draft day. I don't have Twitter so it never gets ruined for me!

Milwaukee is A LOT more desirable than Sacramento.....

Says who, you and Carl Landry??.

You can pump up their roster all you want. At the end of the day, the average person isn't rushing to live and work in cold weather cities such as Milwaukee. There's a valid argument to be had over whether the Bucks roster is more attractive than the Kings, but as a city goes --- you're reaching quite hard.

Oakland has the bay...and you know...things to actually do.

Like what, sit in traffic all day and live around polluted waters and cold beaches? Sure, if you say so.

Sacramento has........ everything else that is at least a 1hr drive.

People that recite this BS must believe they are among the most cultured on the planet. Tell me, what exactly do you do on a daily basis that you can't do in the Sacramento area? You must frequent broadway shows and Madame Tussauds wax museum every weekend.

This area keeps growing by the day. With over 2.5 M people already in the spreadout metro area, it seems most people find the area appealing with plenty of things to do.

Perhaps not so oddly, many of the people moving here are doing so to escape the Bay area and LA.

What do we have to offer that 29 other teams don't??? Serious question.

Other than LA, NY, Miami, Chicago and maybe one or two others, what's the difference between ALL of the others? Furthermore, not everyone wants to live in an overpopulated, overrated city.

Exactly!

Sacramento bashing is getting very old and pathetic and shows how much people really know. While this city is not Paris or London, it is an above average American city located in a pretty cool part of California. I moved from Sac to Bay Area because of my tech job but I would come back gladly too. I was born in Europe but moved to the US as a teen and I am proudly call Sacramento my home town wherever I go. Pound for pound (real estate/rent $, climate, nature, no tornadoes/blizzards/hurricanes etc) it is one of the best cities in America.

When you were 19/20, did you REALLY want to live in Sacramento? What does this city offer to young 20yearold fresh out of college kids? Nothing. Sacramento is an undesirable destination for draft prospects. It's also an undesirable destination for free agents too. The only way we get FAs here is to start winning... we've crapped the bed for the last 8 years. Winning hasn't gone soo good for us.

Many people escaping the Bay and LA to come to Sacramento aren't 20yearolds. They're mostly people ready to settle down and have their family.

I have never said anything about Milwuakee's city itself. I was talking about their roster, front office, coaches, etc. They are BY FAR more attractive than Sacramento. Their roster is BY FAR better than us. They have BY FAR more potential.

However...the city itself? Sacramento by far.... no disrespect to Milwaukee. Sacramento has a better fan base too..

I don't know that Milwaukee is that much better from a roster point of view. Giannis is great. Khris Middleton, Michael Carter-Williams and Jabari Parker are good players but none of them is a definite All-Star. Greg Monroe is probably gone. They don't have a franchise player as good as DeMarcus and I don't think their supporting cast is objectively better than Rondo/Gay/Casspi either.

Not only that, the Kings finished with an identical record as Milwaukee this past season DESPITE all the dysfunction AND playing in the much more loaded Western Conference.

If this FO has it's head on straight finally, I like the Kings chances better going forward.

Kings have only worked out 1 prospect of our Draft Express' top 60. Denver has had a lot of top 60 prospects, but it's because they have a lot of draft picks.
That's a poor comp.

Robert Carter is in the top 60, and Jared Uthoff was in the top 60 until recently. But to be honest, who cares? The Kings will draft a good player and it's results that count. The rest of the crap is just a bunch of hot air that's meaningless.

If anything, I'm not reading that nobody wants to work out for the Kings but that (1) top 10 guys don't want to workout for hardly anyone and (2) the Kings either have no plans to trade down or feel their scouting of guys is good enough without workouts. I'd lean towards it being the former.

It looks like it's the latter. And I don't have a problem with that. Workouts are overrated.
