1. Don't be surprised if one of the small forwards on the Kings summer league team looks REALLY familiar. Word is that Ron Artest would like to play with the young guys. Nothing has been confirmed as yet... I'm thinking that could be a pretty good way to see how some of the kids can handle big time NBA defense.

2. Sergei Monia, on the other hand, won't be participating in the summer league and won't be on the Kings next year. It's said he's most likely heading back to Europe.

Does that mean I'm spared ever again seeing that beefcake picture of him?

Of course, now that I said that, I'm sure Brick will be responding with said picture just to torture me.

I'd really rather Ron did not given our logjam, and with little practicetime, it would actually be our opponents who might get the most training from playing against Ron rather than our own guys.

The Monia thing has been rumored -- confirmed now? That would be too bad + make the Skinner trade now yet another bad one. Skinner for Potapenko straight up. The Webber trade down to Thomas, Corliss and Potapenko for Webb etc.

I think it might be good for our guys to get some playing time with Ron.

As far as the Monia thing being "confirmed," I don't think a formal press statement has been released.

;)

Was Monia under contract? I thought we had him for at least one more year. If he goes to Russia with the Kings blessing does that come off the books? As for that making the Skinner deal = Pot straight up, the contracts still work out in our favor if that's the case. Especially since Skinner wasn't really playing either. But then again I'm sure Muss might have more use for him than Pot.

Yeah, I heard that bit of news about Monia a few weeks ago. Apparently he has a Euro contract with his name on it already and Petrie is going make the process a quick one if that is the case.

Those pesky Euro Contracts are a frigging nightmare, but usually if a player has a contract to play in the US and choosese to go to Europe instead the Euro squad buys his contract out for pennies on the dollar as a curosey... no sure how it effects the cap, but I woud asume like any other guy with an option playing in Europe his controct does not go against the cap.

I was actually thinking about when Ron did that last summer, lately, because I was thinking about him working on his jumper in the summer and remembered he did that. I don't think it could hurt, would help him again (7 games in 04-05, month and 1/2 off in 05-06), be fun and interesting, and the guy is a gym rat anyways.

Monia I had a feeling wouldn't be here one way or another... through trade or when that Dynamo Russian team story came up.. so, good luck to him.

I am with you on this one. IMHO, it would serve no purpose to us for Ron to play in summer league. We alredy have a bit of a logjam at his position and we need to see what all these invitees have to offer.

I would rather see Martin play in VSL than Ron. We need to see what Douby, Garcia, Price and a few big guys can do. Ron can work on his game somewhere else :p

I mixed about Ron Ron participating in the summer league. I think its great motivation for the youngsters to see that an all-star still care about the rookies, but unless he takes on more of a coaching/mentor role, he really shouldn't taking time from ppl trying to make the team.

Actually it would be great if artest could get some extra playing time. He only played part of last season and it would be a good thing for him to be able to work on his shot and get in great shape. He could also work with the young players and show then a few things like he did with Garcia and martin last season. He is almost like an on the court coach and the new comers could benefit a lot from artest being there. So he SHOULD play in the summer league.

Regardless of weather Ron should or should not play SL, or does or does not: I LIKE the fact that he cares enough to even talk aobut it. Ron seems genuinly concerned witht he development of young tallent and no matter how you slice it, thats great!

WORD!!

I like the idea of Ron being so involved in the team. As much as he liked Rick Adelman, I think Ron will find that he has more in common with Musselman. After the lackadaisical attitude at the begining of last season, I really like the intense attitude of our staff and players (maybe not Mike and Brad but thats nothing new). Personally I'm going to be in Vegas to see our summer team and I would be amped if Ron decided to play.

Artest is a gym-a-holic... plus he still isn't and hasn't been in regular shape. 7 games in 04-05, 16 games/month and half off/time with Kings, in 05-06. Summer league isn't that long, and I doubt he plays many minutes.

What about injuries and wear-and-tear? I wish Artest would just work on his shorts this summer and heal.

Injuries and wear-and-tear? I think all the players are better off if they continue to at least stay in some kind of shape. You do remember the Vlade years, right? ;)

The style of play in the summer league is relaxed yet competitive. It's not anywhere near as tough as the regular season, nor should it be. Artest is the consummate professional. He wants to hone his skills AND he wants to help the young guys coming onto the team. I personally think that's admirable.

Yeh, his shorts may be a little baggy, but he needs to work on his shots.

He will. Just like he did last summer, as it was looking nice in Indy, but the month and a half off in the season, hindered his condition and game shape. He's a gym rat, and works on his game every summer.

Well, if he's there, he will be a good example for the young guys as far as really hard work. RA has physical gifts, for sure, but when you read about him I would imagine there's few, if any, players that work as hard as he does.

And, of course, he'd be a good example of defensive "infinite" ;) intensity for where we want to go.

I just never thought of Rick Adelman as a guy with special physical gifts. :)

I was going to say the same thing. The only good I see Ron playing this summer is to help the young guys as a mentor. He does need to get game shape though, but should do that elsewhere and stick to hitting the weights and getting his cardio/endurance back up by running. We have plenty of young guys that need playing time to prove themselves. KMart is even questionable to play in the summer because he has already proven himself, but I would like to see how Price, Douby, Garcia, and our young bigs play together.
