First Road Win

In most years, people would be ecstatic by a win like this. Why? Because we are a poor team that has not won on the road. This is a huge win for the team at this moment in time. It also showed our weaker players looking very good. I am assuming this to be true as I am just now watching the game. Brad is proving to be a rejuvenated Brad and not the guy on his way to being let out to pasture. He is playing as if he were a few years younger.

Many people would be excited by one of the new additions to the team, Mikki Moore. He is finding his niche with this team and that has been evident over the last few weeks. It is just that this game was his best. Why not get excited about it? Are we scared to admit that he was a worthwhile addition?

If Cisco scored 24, we would be excited. If anyone but Martin or Artest got this, we'd be excited. What I read is that this is not so good because he is just a role player playing his roile. Tell ya what, there are a lot of role players who never catch on to how to play there role. Bravo Mikki and bravo Brad!

Bravo Kings! Let's have a few more of these.

I call shenanigans. More to the point, I call straw man; please direct me towards any post-game remarks that are either belittling Moore or the road win.

OK:

Set up again and again by teammates for point blank dunks, follows, alley oops, stupid screams every time he manages to walk and chew gum at the same time, you know the drill by now, but this was Mikki Moore purified. Had a huge third quarter just running to the rim and recieving pass after pass, getting offensive rebound after offensive rebound (well, three at least). Did not rebound otherwise (5 on the night), only created one shot for himself the whole night (dropped one nice hook on Dalembert), but played kind of the ultimate roleplaying game for us. What he did requires not much talent besides knowing where to be on the court, but just by doing that he had a major impact on the game with 24pts on 10-11 shooting (and 9 of the 10 may have been dunks). Its why despite his limited skills, Mikki continues to have a role in this league whereas guys like Kenny Thomas or Reef cannot smoothly integrate into a system where they are not featured. Mikki did not make the game happen -- Brad did. But he was there again and again all night long whenever Brad or Beno or Cisco or whoever created something -- Mikki was the finisher, and the Sixers frontline looked helpless to stop it. I wanted to separate this grade from Brad's, but will do so only through these notes -- this is Mikki Moore here, and you may never see this sort of game from him again. Giving him less than an A for it would be kind of silly, even if he was not the best King on the floor tonight.

I presume you can interpret this as all out praise for a guy who played a great game but I don't. I doubt if anyone given an A will ever receive that grade with so much reluctance.

I'm glad the Kings got the road win and I'm seeing why Petrie thought Moore would be a worthwhile addition to the team. But don't mind me. I can't see the big picture.

While I wouldn't consider it "all out praise," I wouldn't consider it "belittling," either. I feel as if the second and third sentences which you bolded are perfectly fine, completley true and, frankly, fairly objective. The first and fourth sentences are subject to your personal point of view.

And Bravo Glenn. I notice that some people will decide NEVER to celebrate the win. But will be out in full force in a bashing thread. Oh well it is what it is and at least now that your back I am not alone in seeing this Kingsfans Forum turn into a place where you are mocked for optimism and shunned for excitement after a win. Its sad and should be addressed by the powers that be except for the most part the accused ARE the powers that be.

I hate to be the one to bring it up, but the snarky comments and superior attitude coming from the "optimist" side of the fence are every bit as much a contributing factor to this board's recently unpleasant atmosphere as anything else.

There's a certain childishness (and mob mentality bullying, frankly) associated with the various thinly veiled insults lobbed at "some people" which has really grown to be quite tiresome.

I doubt sincerely that there's anyone here who is expressing an opinion for the specific purpose of spoiling someone's fun. It's an opinion. Everyone's got one. And we should all feel comfortable sharing them. I haven't recently, however, and it's a big part of the reason that I'm mostly a reader here these days. It's not fun to offer your opinion, as so many before you have done, only to have it tossed aside and be labeled a killjoy.

After all, hasn't the point of reading Brick's grades after every game been to see his unique point of view on how everyone played? That's certainly why I read them. Just as the game thread has always been about reading everyone's immediate reaction to the game as it's being played, and VF's play-by-play thread is largely about her interpretation of how the game unfolded. I may be the one missing the point, but I always assumed that if people were after nothing more than a box score there are plenty of other places to find one.

Your right and I oppose the "grading" system as well. everyone is entitled to their opinion but, some use the grades as fact. I was speaking on when we win a game coming in and bad mouthing even the wins saying things like "we couldn't do that against a good team" or "He can't ever do that again cause he really sucks" I mean why post that in a thread in which someone is speaking on a good game played by a particular player. I am an optimist persay I realize we are not an elite team and may not make the playoffs but, I don't see the reasoning behind behind bad mouthing after a win or a carreer game by a player. I your kid makes bad grades in school and one day brings home an A do you shun him or her and their excitment by saying good job BUT, you can never do that again you will go back to your sucky grades tomorrow and you will never compete for anything.

I realize that is an overdramatization so don't dwell on that. But it may be a way to get my point across.

I stated before I am open to opinions I realize my take on players are opinions. Bashing them after a game in which they did great isn't opinion. Also seems the ones that don't like the particular player thing their opinion is fact. I know my opinion of Artest is not fact. Brick thinks everything he say about Artest is fact just ask him or anybody else here for that matter. Also the subtle insults toward me from him that get looked over are interesting. However I am not so subtle I will say what I want. VF will usually warn me or ban me for a few days for it.

Anyway thnks GGG for not using the subtle insults and speaking your mind without thinking what you say is fact.

It's a two-sided street, G3. It's not fun for people to want to share their temporary fleeting excitement of a win only to be labeled "blind homers" or people unable to see the big picture, either.

There are just many "snarky" comments coming from the "realists" as well.

I find it most amusing that a thread to celebrate a win, a minor milestone for a struggling team even, is hijacked not by people coming on to poopoo it, but by people coming on to complain about the people coming on to poopoo it who never did.

I don't feel like being terribly subtle about insulting such a bunch of whiny passive aggressive bunk. Particularly not when said pity party is utilized to hijack a simple little thread about a single win. And if you want to name me, challenge me, I'm right here and not going anywhere. If you would like I can start a nightly Pity Party thread for you so you can all get together to discuss how horribly picked on both you and the powerhouse that is the Kings are by all the meanies out there.

Oh, and Entity, while I'm at it, how's our little Ron Artest as 25ppg scorer bet going for you? ;)

P.S. Oh, and if you want to take issue with my grades, do it in the grades thread. Don't hijack somebody else's. I've never in any way discouraged such challenges over where they belong, and have even encouraged people to post their own in that thread if they feel they have something to add.

If you're really that secure in your celebration, it shouldn't matter what anyone else says. A suggestion that a particular win may not magically undo everything that's wrong with the team is not a personal attack, and shouldn't be seen as such.

I read almost every post here on a daily basis with a completely objective eye, and... this isn't true by a long shot.

Brick, you are a moderator. Let's not hear this "challenge me" stuff. In the past if a moderator was challenged, the person was chastised or banned. I have been chastised by two different moderators in the past month.

I thought there were supposed to be no personal attacks yet you "don't feel like being terribly subtle about insulting such a bunch of whiny passive aggressive bunk." We can't do that and aren't supposed to do that. Why are you the only one with that privilege?

Give me a break. No matter what your view is, if you are half a fan you can't be completely objective. The arrogance or perhaps immaturity behind such a remark is really quite striking.

Perhaps when you were a moderator you banned people for disagreeing with you, I remember some of those difficulties.

However you know, or should, that I rarely have, and suspect as usual you are aiming for a smear. Now I will cheerfully start deleting such things as are necessary for the smooth running of this board, but I rarely resort to banning people. This moderator, at least, is fully capable of taking care of himself and it is only when an opponent reaches such obnoxiousness that they are damaging the board that the hammer comes down.

Now, you don't like that? Tough cookies. You don't want me showing up, don't invoke me by name, quit hijacking threads, and best of all, quit complaining about all the nasty people oppressing you. This little thread was completely harmless and 100% Brick free (and controversy free) until you changed that.

Oh, and yes, there are a few others that could be included in this message.

This thread was "Brick free" until Slim asked me to back up my claims so I did. It was not personal until that point. Should I ignore the public request of a moderator? This note of yours simply shows what can happen when people challenge you: you fly off the handle and over react.

I was a poor moderator and quit. At least I had the insight to understand my limitations.

I fail to see how my being a fan would, in any way, affect my objectivity when reading a message board post.

hey, this thread is supposed to be about the Kings and their first road win...the only thing I'm happy about is that we won't have to endure a Dick Motta-esq losing streak, thank God. Good job Reggie!

edit: and people that have known me over the years, including on this board, know that I'm a realist to a fault, and have no problem calling a spade a spade...but I digress, in this instance.:)

I liked the way they played - like a team. Like college ball, which is the highest compliment I can give. Theus gets the game ball. If Artest would sacrifice his game like this more often in order to win, he would lose the selfish moniker....and his trade value would go up.

On the nittpicky side, I still want Hawes to play a lot more. If Theus isn't going to play JW, then just have a rotation of Miller, Miki and Hawes for the 5 and 4 positions. That's 32 minutes per game per player on the average. If Hawes plays 20 minutes per game, that leaves Miller and Miki with 38 minutes a game. Thomas shouldn't play ONE MINUTE MORE for the rest of the season.

I just wanted to chime back in at this point to mention, for as "heated" as discussion has been on both sides in this thread, this has been, by far, the most civil argument of this type I've ever seen on any other message board, anywhere... Despite all the sniping, and snark and innuendo, this discussion has still proceeded mostly with respect and without any outright name calling or flaming.

So, to anyone who has been recently bemoaning how "bad" the board has become, I just wanted to remind everybody how much worse it is elsewhere.
