First Game - Mobley thoughts only

#1
I thought a thread dedicated to his first game was needed. I mean really who here can say they weren’t watching his every move? Everytime he was on the court I only watched #3

I was very impressed. He played like this without ever playing or practicing with the team.

He hustled, his D was good as I didn’t see anyone get by him and he had some good offensive moments. IMO under the circumstances he played great and really can only get better as he becomes more familiar with the Kings system.

I also noticed that the team tried to give him shots more then normal. Seems as they always tried to make sure the Cat was involved. Just shows how the word team really means team for the Kings. Props has to go to them also.

I was pretty excited by his play, hustle, D and we got a glimpse at how quick he can put up points.

What do you think about the trade now? (Minus losing a great player and person in DC) Just a first opinion of Cat.

First opinion? I think he did very well and will get better. As much as I loved Doug, I think this trade will work out well for us.

Well i told you guys he is a very underated defensive player , he was hussling tonight and he got 13 points even when Adelman didnt involved him in the offense that much...

he got 13 shots in his first game. I would say he was invilved all right.

got off to a rough start, looked like all the players especially webb were trying too hard to get him a shot, like that forced ally-oop, but as the game went on mobley let the game come to him and showed us that smooth and effortless J.

well most of the 1st half the guys didnt really goto him , maybe because of him not knowing all the play yet nor the system , but your right late game he was getting into the flow ... i was very pleased with his shot selection ... hes gonna be big here come playoff time..

I agree he looked a little nervous at first. Not sure if that was the right word but he looked lost. That should be expected his first time playing with the team.

i thought that Cuttino got in a rough start since he was forcing shots and trying to make shots early. I also thought he wanted to show the crowd what kind of skills he had............;) These things happen a lot when a new member comes to a new team.

The 1st shot of the game was specifically designed for him. And the team seemed to make it a point to get him involved.

Overall good game. He did seem to have butter on his fingers. I don't know how many of the Kings turn-overs were attributed to him, but that is the only area where he had trouble. That's not surprising for a new guy who may be trying a little too hard, and who just doesn't have the timing down with the other guys yet.

His hustle was great. If he brings that effort every night, he'll be a fan favorite in no time.

I don't agree that Cat was trying to show the crowd anything. He played completely within the flow of the game and was probably battling a few jitters at the beginning.

I am very impressed with him.

Oh, come one now... He got off to a rough start? This is Kings we're talking about. You don't walk on to the Kings team having come from East Conference team and start playing Kings ball. He did very well given the circumstances. KIngs play basketball. There is just a few other teams in the NBA that play basketball too (most notably Seattle and Phoeenix). Most other teams force the ball through the hoop.

Mobley did exceptionally well for game No. 1. Welcom Cat!

13 points after a slow first half? 13 points on a night when both Pedja and Chris are getting their shots to go...

Welcome to the Kings, Cat! You're gonna have a good time here...and so are we!!!!!

Woooooooooooooooooooo!!!

HAHA I can almost feel your excitement VF... Got my 2 year old to cheer and boo tonight depending on the play. When cat hit a jumper she tossed up her arms and yelled YAAAAAAA.

So if that isn't a good omen what is.

I thought Cat was very impressive for his time with the squad.. Specially in a game. 3 TOs which wasn't surprising. Happens when you think a players going one way when hes going another.

I was not that impressed with Mobley. I judge him based on Christie and Christie is wayyyy better. Christie would have destroyed the Clippers with his crisp pass, tough defense, getting hands on ball and high IQ awareness.

Mobley has none of the intangible that Christie has...like high IQ, mental toughness, tough defense, smart passing, knowing when to shoot the ball and when not...these are the things that win you ball games.

Does he make the Kings better in the long run??? I don't know...i don't see it, but i hope so. Tonight, he's just another player out there, nothing special. Christie would not be just another player out there in my opinion. He always change the momemtum of the game and i am getting liitle cue that Petrie is making a huge mistake....but we'll see.

I am not going to argue about the first part because I will not judge a new player after the first game.

The last part - I see it as a salary dump move in the long term. That was great move by Petrie

Well I am going to respond. Come on man what game were you watching. the Kings bench gave us nothing, Bibby gave nothing, Miller only had 10 points. We were dominated on the boards. Mobley was the only offensive threat besides Webb and Peja and we won. His defense was great. I hate to do it but your comments bring me to it. If doug would have been there and gave his normal game we would have lost that game. Mobley did on defense as much as Doug would have. Plus Dougs average of 6 points a game would not have won that game. The Cat was 4 points under his average and has only had a 1 hour shootaround with the team. I can garuntee the cat will lead us in scoring on several occasions.

So you're able to judge his whole game by one appearance? An appearance, BTW, made with just one short practice with the team?

If you don't mind, I think I'll disagree. First of all, he's already showing good court awareness. As far as discussing his passes, I saw a couple that were way above average. With a little more time to gel, I think Cat is going to be a real asseyt.

I think he is a good choice to succeed Doug who is a tough act to follow, but was slowly down considerably this year. You talk as though Doug was having a career year, which he wasn't. I love Doug Christie and what he was able to give to the Kings during his time here, but I applaud Petrie for making this trade. Why? Because he was willing to take a chance to make this team better and I think he succeeded.

Just another player out there? Nothing special? We must have been watching different games.

I thought he played very good defense and his offense was about what I expected. He'll get used to the offense and he'll be fine. I didn't like his play at the PG much. But even that may improve with more time. They aren't going to get much practice time soon since they have to leave for LA tomorrow then play Monday and Tuesday.

We now have 5 starters that can put up 20+ points on any given night. We also have (when he comes back) Bobby Jackson who has put up 20 off the bench several times. Now we got Evans, Martin, and Songaila whom all i have seen get over 10 several times. How can you go wrong with that. I loved Doug he gave me his wrist band but reality has to sink in. You have to accept the change. The trade will not be vetoed. Now lets get behind mobley he is no our new starting SG. Go Kings

uhhh get over it, christie is gone -- has been traded.
i can't believe you took your time to post all of that -- based on one game.
there is 2-3 months left in the season. at least give him til the end of the season to assess his talent.
