Fire Christie

The process for selecting Monte and his team was very competitive with a number of guys that people on this board liked and we chose Monte.

I think the only time we ever got passed over by a coach we really coveted was SVG which was a blessing in disguise. Can't really help us when we identify splashy names that stink or just want a paycheck.
and what happened to that process? Was it used for Perry or Christie?

Christie was hand picked. Personally I think at this stage it isn't harming us. Nobody is winning with this roster.

Perry I have no idea, he was here briefly and seemed to be pretty smart but he quickly got offered his dream job in NY and moved on. Honestly, he set the table for most of the success the team is enjoying today even if he is stuck here now. If he sets the table and someone else serves us a 5-star meal I will never say a bad thing about the man.

eta: I feel like its worth pointing out I was one of the most resistant to tank on this forum. As I knew it would be painful and nobody would agree or be happy with its progression until the dividends pay out. My solution has been cancelling league pass and only watching national games, focusing on my college team, and enjoying more hockey while this all plays out.

Would appear to me that a process was used that was largely applauded as finally doing his due diligence to go and select a GM.....and then he abandoned it, after using it one time. Choosing instead to "hand pick" easy choices that he already knew would take the jobs for head coach and GM

I have lost all respect for Doug. He is just a Vivek yes-man. I get he wants to kiss butt to keep his job, but in my mind integrity is paramount to the way you should live your life. Vivek will destroy Christie reputation in Sacramento just like he did when he appointed a very inexperienced GM like Vlade . Vlade’s reputation in this city took a big hit, but Vivek doesn’t care.

haven't lost my respect for him bc this team would be bad regardless, but it's definitely been a shame to watch him not practice what he spent years preaching. All that talk about how defense wins games and not being afraid to play the young guys and here he is giving Dennis Schroder more minutes than Keon Ellis, refusing to even try to play Devin Carter, and being too afraid to bench any of the big names. I didn't expect him to become the next big thing at the head coaching position, but I didn't expect him to be a Vivek yes-man either, which you are correct that he looks to be.

Perry and Christie are both really good talkers when it comes to shoveling crap.

Doug’s early slogans of picking up 94 feet, etc fell on deaf ears when push came to shove. All he does is cater to these vets who can’t deliver nor look like they care to deliver.

Perry’s latest mantra of “we have to get younger is almost comical because his 3 signings were guys who blocked the younger players from more minutes and development time….and I said almost comical but in reality it makes me sad because it was dumb and we all have to watch it.

And then to finally top it off, some forum members are saying to chill while the deadlines are actually here but not every move has to wait for a January 15 deadline or the traditional deadline. Meanwhile, all I watch is Christie and Perry stunt the growth of the young players OR completely dismiss a Devin Carter.

Perry drafting some decent pieces but that goodwill is going to be gone without some type of movement that makes sense.

January 15 isn't a deadline, it is an opening window for the player we have been consistently linked to.

Also I get frustration with minutes but we have to have a PG (or Monk, I guess) in with Ellis as he is not a primary ball handler.

Devin Carter? Could have paired Nique with Ellis or Carter. I mean we have 8 wins. If it’s worse, so what, but we would have learned something about these guys playing in these roles. Still can if Perry can move the 3 vets out and force young guys to either step up and handle these roles or crumble.

I've been critical of Doug the entire season, but I do think Perry gets a chance to work the deadline before fulling throwing him out to pasture. I hated his offseason moves, but he brought in a strong rookie class and if he can add Kuminga and/or clear these vets out, then he'll make up some serious goodwill for a poor offseason haul outside of the draft

If its more of the same after the deadline with 1 or no vets cleared out, then he's fully deserving of getting bashed and ridiculed.

I’m solidly in the “I think Devin Carter is trash” camp.

We have 8 wins. There is ZERO reason not to throw him out there. We either trick someone into taking a flyer on an asset we don’t care about, or he’s actually not useless.

He's certainly not trash on defense. You know, "PILLARS!", lol.

How would we know if we've never given him a chance to be trash? Thats the problem

I don't know if I am in this camp but even in the world where Keon only plays every other game there has to be some truth that he isn't showing/developing as expected enough in practice to warrant minutes. That said he doesn't really have a clear position which kind of puts him at the end of the line at either guard spot. Barring us somehow falling past 5th or 6th I don't see us drafting a guard this off season so its possible if he isn't a deadline roster casualty that we'll finally get to see him get some time next season. Maybe?

and yet, he has a lot of interest around the league. Probably because of what he had shown on an NBA floor, including an effective post season elimination game matched up on Curry

Because in his limited minutes usually looks bad (especially on the offensive end) and at this point there almost has to be a behind the scenes reason (Ie also looks awful in practice) he doesn’t get any semblance of a chance. It’s pure conjecture.

I think Carter looks great from an intangibles/defense standpoint. His counting stats have always been "meh" but he totally passes the eye test on one end of the court.

Shooting is pretty "trash", but his ability to get into the paint is underrated.

I'll be following him if/when he gets shipped out. I don't think he'll ever be an allstar or anything, but I think he's going to carve out a niche as a role player, perhaps even an elite role player if he starts shooting threes at a respectable clip and ends up on a team with a friendly whistle.

The main issue is he's probably 5th on the depth chart at SG and there's at least 4 people the org trusts as primary ball handlers more keeping him from being the PG or lead guard in a 3 guard lineup. If Monk and Zach go away and Russ or Dennis go away, it's going to open up time for him and Nique to fight into a regular rotation spot.

My hot take in this Doug is Vivek's lapdog discussion is that if I were Vivek I'd probably be demanding minutes for Carter given that you don't have to squint too hard to feel like the opportunity cost in picking him last year was pretty much the direct downfall of the team. (ie same crap we saw with Marvin and the fallout between Brandon Williams and Coach Joerger)

Keon Ellis
We're talking about Devin though. I only mentioned Keon because Devin is clearly at least a notch below Keon in the pecking order and is struggling to get minutes on this roster. If we can't find minutes for Keon then there are no minutes for Devin.

Why are you gleaming anything from 5 blowout minutes literally once a month? Even the end of his rookie year when he came back had more consistent playing time than he gets now. When he's actually healthy

At this point give me 10 20 MPG games in a row. Just something to evaluate at the NBA level in a real role.

The practice thing would be so incredibly stupid, I cant buy it. Even this org as dumb as they ate. Dude was a clear lottery talent in the draft, punted his rookie year for health (and was still incredibly effective on D in his 300+ minutes) thats gotten pushed aside for the likes of Russ/Dennis etc.

I feel like it has to be something he's not showing in practice. Or he is a head case.

Yet he's a coach's son so I find it hard to believe.

I can't recall an NBA team just throwing away a lottery talent like this, even if he is a knucklehead in practice. You just don't know until you get him on an nba floor.

And the silly thing is he was great in SL and he's been great in his G-League stints. If he couldn't hang, he would have shown it at those levels first.

Yeah, there's a lot of excusing of really bad process around these parts. If Perry wants the Kings to get younger, well, he probably shouldn't have signed 32-year-old Dennis Schroder in the off-season and 37-year-old Russell Westbrook right as the season was beginning. There's youth already on the roster that's being neglected in favor of the very guys Perry stuck in front of them. Priority number one between now and the deadline should be offloading some number of these over-30-somethings the Kings are carrying on their roster for almost no tangible benefit beyond... "culture", I guess? 🙄

Yep. He's a complete sellout. Look at what he did with Grant when he got fired. He was the guy who took Christie under his wing in the broadcasting world.

And you can't say, "well, Grant was a racist" and excuse Christie because if that were the case then it means Christie knew that all along while working with Grant.

I could easily find time for Carter with this roster. Many other coaches could and would
