finals game 5 (merged)

The ESPN post game is showing clips of Avery on the side line signalling time out to call time out and all of the announcers are laying the blame on Johnson for possibly causing the inexperienced Howard to call time out at the wrong time.

From the low-angle replay, it appeared that the Mavs stayed away from Wade, especially Dirk, yet he was the one who got the foul.

Of course, to be fair, Dirk got a call like that in the series vs. the Spurs, so it's not as if the Mavs haven't been on the other end of a late game foul that allowed the game winning shots to be taken from the free throw line.

And Wade was the aggressor all night. Couple that with the fact that he's a superstar (or fast becoming one), and he's going to get those calls.

I know that Wade was the aggressor and he is a superstar. But i hate the fact in one of the biggest games this season the game had to end like they, they bailed out the heat. I know that the mavs had their chances but i hated how it ended.

It was not the kind of foul that should be called at the end of a game. I hate it when the officials decide a game and not let the players decide the outcome. Under 20 secs left a foul that isn't blatant--the refs should have swallowed their whistles.

Howard definalty earns a NBA bone head award tonight. And Yes Dirk's little tantrum was fun... hope he gets a nice little fine for kicking the ball into the stands but dout that will happen.

i am glad the refs have attempted to be consistent. i think it was a fair call and agree dallas has been on the other end of getting questionable calls.

I don't agree. It was pretty clear that he was fouled IMHO.

If it was a foul it was a weak one. From one angle it looked like there was a little contact but nothing to warrent a foul. I am happy the heat won but it feels could of cheap, lol.

some game stats: wade with 43/4/4 and 3 stls, shaq with 18/12, terry with 35, dirk 20/8 on 8/19 shooting and howard with 25/10

And I disagree... ;)

The refs were pretty consistent throughout the game. An aggressive player driving the lane like that is going to get the call. The amount of time left on the clock shouldn't enter into it at all.

What a damn game! Another classic, IMO. As expected, was high in quality.

Wade, once again, was just tremendous! 20+ pts in 4th and OT. 2nd 40 pt game of the finals with 43. After not looking too good in the 1st half, steadily broke out later in the 2nd half. Hitting some amazing shots...just keep on loving this guy. Payton, came up big late again. Dallas forgot about him again.

Not sure what was going on there with the time-out stuff.

GO HEAT~!

And now take 3 on time-out gate, Avery seems to be saying he was relaying the timeout signal to his players, Howard looked back to him gesturing for clarification and the refs screwed up by interpreting that as a time out call.

If ESPN and his coach are letting Howard off the hook he's probably ok.

Well we will have to agree to disagree. That was a pretty soft foul.. the announcers didn't even think the call was going on Dirk..they had trouble figuring out "who" fouled..so it seems obvious it was a ticky tack foul call. I don't believe that NO MATTER how much you hate the Mavs that a game at the very end should ever be decided by the officials. I do not have a dog in this fight, but I think it is a shame that such a great game..in overtime, under 20 secs should be decided by the officials. Let the players do that...

Did Artest get fined or suspended for chucking the video equipment when he was with Indiana a couple of years ago?

Watching Dirk get pissed at the end is one of the things that separates him from a guy like Peja. Dirk wants it and Peja doesn't.

The officiating has been silly all through the playoffs. I think the Spurs got the shaft a couple of times against Dallas and now Dallas isn't getting the calls the way Miami is. When games are so close, it sucks that the decisions made by the officials can just about determine the outcome of the game.

so do alot of people consider this a "tainted" win for the heat then?
LOL... here? At Mavs hater central? I doubt it. Maybe on Mavs forums. I am neutral on both teams, I thought it was pretty impressive how the Heat battled back and don't think the refs are responsible for anything - the Heat weren't shooting well from the line and there were calls like that lane violation that cost the Heat a possession.

I only watched 4th quarter and OT and it is the biggest robbery since WCF 2002. Why play a game in which the winner is known up front ? This isn't sports anymore. It is a rag.

Anouncers often don't know who actually committed the foul. Their viewpoint is FAR from the best on the court. It doesn't mean it's a ticky tack foul call. It often means someone is standing in front of them and they cannot see...

As I said previously, the officials had called the whole game consistently. And it's not about me hating the Mavericks because - if you recall - I don't hate the Mavericks per se. I hate Mark Cuban. And honestly I am a true fan and lover of basketball. I have NEVER been in favor of a team getting preferential treatment by the officials and I certainly wouldn't start over a Heat-Mavericks game.

But we're not going to agree and I'm not going to continue to argue over a Heat-Mavercks game.

Peace.

:)

Yeah, I'm with piksi.

#1: there was no foul on Wade at all on that drive to the hoop -- officials NEVER call fouls like that when the game is on the line unless they are truly clobbered. That was bogus

#2: unless a player is sticking his hands in the officials face or calling time out dramtically, usually officials just ignore someone calling a timeout when they don't have any. But the officials jumped all over Howard's very soft time out signal.

I'd be pissed if I were a Mavs fan. But I'm not, so it's all pretty amusing.

Wade wasn't clobbered but the contact knocked the shot pretty far from the mark from a player who was money all night. You aren't going to get a free "soft" foul just because time is winding down.

The "Grand Conspiracy Enclave" of refs didn't make Dirk, Dampier and Howard (at least I think it was Howard) miss those critical free throws at the end that would have probably sealed the deal for the Mavs.

Ah, but it's so much more fun to talk about conspiracies and pre-determined winners, etc. than it is just to admit the Mavericks choked big time...again.

Wow, the refs must be God. Not only do they decide the outcome, they also make the game go into OT and make the game overall an instant classic. Wow the refs deserve a raise that's for sure

there. Kings players should pull a Wade when shots aren't falling and drive. People, there was a foul on that last play, the only thing the refs got wrong was who it was called on. Harris tripped up Wade, and that in the rule book is normally called a foul. The Mavs fans wouldn't be complaining if Howard/Dirk hit their free throws. Wade hit his. End of story end of game.

it should be noted that dirks foul call on walker with 1:26 in regulation was very questionable as well. these things happen in the nba. but for people to say miami should have lost or that the refs conspired to "hand" this win to the heat is a stretch at best
