Evans vs Penny ;)

Could some please explain to me how Tyreke Evans can potentially be a Penny Hardaway type player? As I see it they have very similar games.

It doesn't hurt that this guy is young and has potential to address a number of weaknesses the kings do have. Perimeter defense, and the potential ability to run a team, due to his advanced vision and passing, his ability to finish around the rim and his strength are all pluses for me.

He does need to improve his outside shot but the key word... POTENTIAL.

CAN'T WAIT!

:D

I can see it. Both have good size and versatility for the pg position. I'm just so glad to see Tyreke play for the Kings. I'm super optimistic about the kid and love his potential.

Doesnt seem to be the finisher D-Wade is.

I mean does he dunk? He seemed to just use his length to lay it in in college, he may get swatted a bit in the pros.

I'm thinking he'll be Tyreke Evans 1.0 :p

I'm excited about the kid.

He doesn't remind me of Penny at all. Penny was more finesse, and had a better handle of the ball. More of a fluid type player than Evans is. I really think it's going to come down to Martin, or Evans in the next year or two. I don't mind Evans at SG and trading Martin if it was for a veteran and not more young players.

BTW i was just quoting Sac4cwebb on his post (evans vs salmons)...

I do think if brought up right, he can be a penny type player. At the moment, I agree with Optimus Rhyme with Evans being compared to Rodney Stuckey, except bigger (in strength).

I very well believe he can be brought up as a big PG. I just don't understand how some people can compare this guy to the likes of Douby. Just ABSURD!!!!

They're similar in the sense that they're both all around guards that score, pass, handle, rebound, and of course they both went to Memphis. On the surface they're similar, but when you get down deeper there isn't a great similarity. As far as explosiveness goes, Penny is one of the most explosive big guards in NBA history, Evans is a good all around athlete, but Penny was elite; You could say Penny was in the top tier, Evans is in the 2nd tier. Evans is good at getting to the basket, but he's not the finisher that Penny was. Penny was a much more polished shooter, had better mechanics, Evans has a slow release and inconsistent follow through. Penny was a much smarter (better decision maker and shot selection) and more polished player (he had one more year in college than Evans did though.) They're both crafty with the ball, but Penny was the more creative passer. He has better strength than Penny and better potential as a defender.

There are similarities between the two, but I think Evans is a tier below in most categories, mainly athleticism and shooting. I think Evans plays more like T-Mac, but (again) less explosive of an athlete and 3 inches shorter.

He reminds me of Penny a lot. Similar size, very good athlete and good ball handler, he can get to the rim against anyone, he's a good passer, and a great defender with a ton of potential.
