Well we have a ways to go till the actual draft... most importantly we gotta get through this trade deadline first... but sure enough its never too early to talk draft when this team is clearly lottery bound again...

This mock draft machine continues to make our pick Cole Aldrich.... which please tell me im not alone on this screams Spencer Hawes 2.0 ! ! !

ok ok, yes i realize that this Cole kid is posting 3.6 blks a game and is avg a double double against tougher teams than what Hawes played... so no he isn't quite Spencer Hawes 2.0... but does his lack of athleticism scare anyone else?

I like the comparisons to Joel Przybilla and if thats the case i'd have no problem taking this Cole kid... but not to be racist here but these white sluggish Centers worry me even with kind of numbers he's putting up... i cant help to think Greg Ostertag or Big country... guys i just hate...

personally what i've seen from Cole hasn't been super impressive... im kinda feeling that Solomon Alabi guy.... or anyone else thats more athletic

Let's get John Wall to run point, move Reke to SG, then trade Martin/Hawes as a package for a good big man.

Just a thought
I think John Wall will be a long shot... something tells me were not lucky enough to land the #1 pick... but who knows cause now that im totally convinced that Evans is the PG of the future... landing Wall could be a possibility.... throw a wrench in my thinking.... why not

Aldrich

Unfortunately he is not athletic, his shot is about as awkward and non existant as it can be (watch him shoot FTs and try not to have a heart attack) and he doesn't really have that high revving motor that I would like the anchor of the D to have. Watched him play vs Mizz yesterday, and even though his stat line was impressive, he really wasn't. You'd think with 16 boards and 7 blocks, this is a can't miss sort of thing, but I just don't get that with him. He isn't slow, but he isn't really fast either. He is smart, most of his blocks are when he gets his opponents pump faking or if they're out of possition. Unfortunately, he does seem like the most polished and NBA ready guy out there, but man, he weighs as much as Ron Artest. Just does not scream "NBA starting Center"... I know he's young, and has the frame but I can't see this guy past like 260 and effective.

I'm with you on athleticism. I woud like to see someone that is an athletic guy in the middle. The question is would you be willing to wait 3-4 more years for the kid from Nigeria to develop?

They are saying he is a project, although he's progressing fast, but we don't know how that will translate. What if he's athletic, but never develops to be more than DJ Mbenga?

He's a better athlete than you're giving him credit for. Just because he's a white center doesn't make him Hawes 2.0, Ostertag or Big Country. He doesn't really have anything in common with those players. Przybilla isn't a bad comparison, but its more like Przybilla with a jump shot, which is really quite good.

I was much more impressed with the few games I saw last year then what I've seen this year. Maybe its the improved depth, but he seems much less assertive this year and because of that a step slower. The production really hasn't wavered that much though, and if can log one or two of the dominant games he had last year his numbers will end up being a little better.

Aldrich has basically zero star potential, but its hard for him to miss as a solid two-way starting NBA center. I'm pretty sure of that. He'll rebound, block shots and hit jumpers. He'd be a great pick and pop player with Tyreke.

In brighter news, NBADraft.net has us picking Derrick Favors.
yeah this Cole kid looks like Hawes with better defensive and rebounding instincts... I'LL PASS....

IM SO SICK AND TIRED OF WATCHING FAST PLAYERS JUST BLOW BY OUR CENTERS... and it looks like NBA fast will destroy this Cole kid... he seriously looks like he couldn't jump over a phone book... I really dont care if this big we draft needs a year or two to grow as long as he can come in and alter shots/block shots/ and rebound right off the bat...

SCREW OFFENSE!!!! NO MORE JUMP SHOTS AND FANCY PASSES FROM THE CENTER POSITION!!! ONLY BLOCKS/REBOUNDS AND SCREENS!!!!ONLY HIGH JUMPING AND QUICK CENTERS

My favorite big man prospect this year has been Cousins from Kentucky. He disappears at times but he's a beast and I have seen him make more of an impact than Favors.

Your all caps hurt my eyes.

I don't have a problem with Aldrich, if he is a solid body down low. He at least looks to be somewhat beefy, and doesn't seem to be afraid of the inside. That's all we really need. A young Ostertag would be fine. Not everyone can be Stockton/Malone. I don't want the Kings to draft a project at this stage of the game. WYSIWYG - Aldrich seems like a guy who'll clean up the slop - maybe Bajaden, who's been watching more, could provide additional info.

He's 6'11" 245... Come on man... just being inside doesn't make you brave, he has no true post game. He shows good footwork but no "moves". Does have pretty soft hands so I guess it can be taught but he is a far thing from a sure pick.

Ok this is what in talking about.... I don't care if his hands are soft or rocks as long as he can jump and spike shots away from the basket... I also don't care if he can bust moves around the basket as long as he busts up opponents when they try to score or grab a board...

I got #1 my first try as well, John Wall & Tyreke Evans would be the sickest backcourt in the league. I doubt it happens but it doesn't hurt to dream, lol. Honestly though if we had Evans (SG), Wall (PG) & Greene (SF) as our perimeter players our D would be much improved. Add a legit shot blocking center who can rebound and watch the win total climb up..

Don't we all wish it was that easy?;)

I was also against drafting Cole Aldrich before this season started, but now Im warming up to the idea. Hes just so solid, on offense and defense.

Like I said in another thread ( The draft thread ) Im not sure how good of a shot blocker Aldrich will be in the NBA. But Im also not sure how much that actually matters. He wont be bad, he'll be able to get a block a game at the least - probly somewhere around 1.5, but more importantly he has the strength to keep other guys out, and I actually think thats more important.

Alabi, Davis, Udoh .. all of those guys are too skinny. Think Tyrus Thomas - good shot blocker, athletic guy, but he doesnt have the strength to keep guys out of the paint. Sure, you can clame they'll put on the weight, add strength and all that, but most of the time they dont. Hawes didnt. Aldrich would be a safe pick, and if we drafted him ( also matters who is on the board at the time, I like Turner and Wall more ) I would be fine with it.

We'll see. Aldrich isnt soft though.

I think there is a very strong chance of this. As long as Cousins doesn't act out in any significant way, I see Petrie really liking him.

That's the only reason he's this far down in the mocks.. The kid has a ton of talent but is known for being a bit of a jerk. I think he might be the most talented big in the draft.
