Eric Musselman to be fired?

the latest rumor from KNBR 680 in San Francisco today is that there are rumbelings out of Sacramento that it will be one and done for EMuss and that Eric Musselman will be fired at the end of the season.

Seems about right. Muss had a plan and it failed on pretty much every level. The team had no identity, and failed on the defensive end miserably. Nothing else to say. There were no glimpses of greatness from our coach. Just a run in witht he law, and many arguments with players. He's not the right fit for us.

I woudl have rather had Reynolds coaching the Kings.

Why not ask Rick Barry to coach? He seems to be a hard nosed guy. He has said on the Rise Guys that he wants to coach.

This year the Maloofs did not throw in the towell and rebuild. I am thinking maybe next year is the year. Why not have a losing coach and get a better draft pick?

I am pretty confident that they will give Muss next year, because they still think that he can prove it and are blaming GP for the team that he put together. They have to pay him either way. If we see more of the same next season, Muss will be gone at the end of the season. IMO the Maloofs will not that readily admit to their mistake.

pretty much. a plan does no good unless you execute. hell, half the people on this board have great plans for what the team could do, myself included. so if i slapped together a couple posters and a Powerpoint presentation could i get the head coaching job?

Unless you know something that I do not, (and we all know that that is possible), I just do not see them only giving him a year. We will know soon enough, I would assume they would follow the pattern of firing him immediately after the end of the season like RA.

If we don't plan on having a team that competes for playoff contention next year, I don't see any real benefit to getting rid of him and paying two coaches at once.

Don't get me wrong: I don't want him to stay, but there's nothing being lost in keeping him around if we don't have a good team. We'd probably just hire a placeholder coach for the next season or so anyways.

Adelman's contract was over. It wasn't a matter of firing him; it was just a matter of him not having a job any longer.

Musselman's situation will be different as he does have a contract. I strongly suspect he will be bought out with the "going in a different direction" comment all bosses try to use to soft-pedal dumping employees who just didn't work out.

i'm going to have to disagree with those who want to keep him around another year if our plan is the lottery.

i don't even trust muss to lose properly.

You know, I was all for losing out and hoping to win the Oden/Durant sweepstakes this year after it became clear pretty early that we were going nowhere. We had a string of nationally televised games in December and the Kings were playing such ugly basketball that I didn't even want to watch them anymore. I pretty much knew by then that major changes were needed. But bringing Muss back hoping that we tank again and go after OJ Mayo or Derrick Rose or some other stud guard -- I think that's taking it too far. If you don't open the season trying to build something positive you're establishing a dangerous precedent. That's when you really risk losing your fan base. The only question to ask is whether or not Muss is a part of the future of this team. If he's not, then he needs to go.

Of 35 poll respondents, only 5 thought Musselman would be here at the beginning of the 2007/2008 season. That's a pretty clear "vote of no confidence".
