End of the curse?

Remember way back when we were flying high, playing in the WCF and fully expected to beat the Lakers?

Remember that game when all Vlade had to do was swat away the ball and we'd win? You know, that game when instead of swatting it into an open spot on the court Vlade accidentally swatted it right into the hands of He Who Shall Not Be Named?

From that moment on, the Kings have struggled under some kind of horrible curse. It wasn't always active, but it was there enough to remind us of its presence.

Year after year, something would happen that simply should not have happened...something that would bring talk of the curse back.

Tonight should have been another one of those occasions. Kobe was in the house, the Kings blew a 27-point lead to the second-worst team in the NBA and the stage was set for one final slap in the face by the Brave Little Soldier. Every Kings fan was afraid of the same thing, although most of us couldn't even give voice to the thought.

And what happened? Nothing. Nada. Kobe stayed on the bench and the Kings won. Yes, won, as in ended up with more points at the buzzer.

Am I the only one who thinks that just might have been the completion of the curse circle?

I was there and fully expected him to come out and at least attempt that shot...... but he didn't...and just like that. It's over. Yes, the lakers made a mad, crazy run fueled by "I think we can" as Boogie cooled his heels on the bench in foul trouble, BUT the only ones carted off from my section by the sheriffs were laker fans AND the team didn't panic. That was a tough, emotional night. Half the gym was laker fans. They kept their composure, when it all seemed to be slipping away and the laker contingent in the crowd (who spent the entire time of the lead either blocking the beer line or the bathroom and NOT in their seats) rose up against them. Bye Kobe. I hope you have a fantastic retirement

I don't know the answer to this but we should remain vigilant. As always Go Kings and wishing the lakers nothing but the worst as I'm sure the feeling is mutual.

The curse is real. It started on Tuesday, June 18, 1985 with Joe Kleine.

So no, I'm expecting to miss the playoffs by 1 game, and finally the 30 year curse will be lifted, the doors closed on Arco 2.0, and good fortune in the new arena.

What curse? I've been around a long time and seen a lot of bad Kings basketball with the good but never knew about a curse. Anyway, I'm very glad it may be over.

The Derrick smith trade.
Bill Russell becoming our coach. (What a horrible horrible circus that was)
Bobby Hurley almost dying in a car accident after a game.
Ricky Berry killing himself.
Jerry Reynolds collapsing on the sideline.
Game 7 against the lakers.

Am I missing anything?

the curse of the Indian burial grounds is real and it's almost over.

ARCO arena was supposedly built on Indian burial grounds. Thus the curse!

Thanks. Odds are the one down town is the same. Maybe even my house.

Nope. The indigenous people of the area would not have buried their people that close to the river. ;) That part of Sacramento used to routinely flood, which the local natives knew well. It is also why the entire downtown was raised 8-14 feet.

1862-
1872

Sacramento Streets Raised: In response to floods of 1861-1862, streets east of the Sacramento River to about 12th Street were raised as much as 14 feet.

Thanks for the history lesson. Was here before the arena and a first season season ticket holder, read the Bee every day but never heard of a curse related to an Indian burial ground under the arena. Anyway, glad the curse will be over. Let's hope tha future games including tonight's are won based on the quality of basketball play with just a little bit of good luck involved. Go Kings.
