Earl Boykins is Still Available

Might be asking for too much money. He's a solid backup but he also has his deficiencies. I'd rather take the cheaper approach and play Douby along with Salmons and Cisco. Boykins will land somewhere.

I liked what I saw from Orien Greene. We don't need to bring in any more aging vets.

Old in NBA years is entirely different than anything else. And if I'm making you feel old, consider that I'm old enough to be the mother (and in some cases the grandmother) of these kids. Now THAT is old.

:p

If the Kings were going somewhere this year OR If Earl would take vet minimuim for one or two years... maybe... but in the end it really does not matter. It's no like the Kings are a back up PG away from anything (except maybe the 8th seed) And in the end this is not really the time collect ageing vets, it's the time to develop young tallent. Green looked worth a shot... I will also be interested in what Shakur can bring as well. Now if the Kings trade Mike (again Im not even sure we need to since he does have an opt out at the end of this season) Then sure you get a vet and it would seem Boykins is the best left out there, but thats a whole different situation.

I completely agree. I like Greene and a 31 yr. old vet isn’t something that I’m looking for (especially for this team).

I think that's about how I would look at it. If we were to make a Bibby deal in the near future, Boykins would give us flexibility in what we took back. Could take back non-PGs, or injured guys or whatever, and then quickly go sign Boykins off the FA market to fill the gap for the season. Otherwise, we are not in a place where we need/want him. What is surprising is that nobody else seems to be either. did not know that his size/scoring mentality was that big of na issue around the league. In pure productivity he's certainly a lot better than a lot of the guys teams run as backups. But apparently the freakish game he forces you into with his size is chasing people away.

I have always liked Boykins, I just don't think hes really needed here at this point. I am surprised however, as to why a team hasn't picked him up yet..

Maybe he's holding out for a 5 year contract, ala Mike James, Steve Nash, SAR, and a number of other older players.

That could scare people off.

Yeah, it may be that contract he doesn't deserve, a la Varejao and Pavlovic, but I want to go straight for the money with Boykins: it's his height.

What else can explain his lack of interest during the free agency period? The guy put up the career numbers splitting last year with Milwaukee and Denver, and while Milwaukee's poor play gave him the opportunity to Ricky-Davis his stats, he averaged 15 points per game off the bench for Denver in 28 minutes. Really, a lot of teams would kill for 15 pts...off the bench. Hell, if Boykins was 6'0" or so like B-Jax or so, he'd probably be more appreciated. But what does Denver do instead? Trade him for the more passive BUT taller Steve Blake, who they promptly lose to Portland this offseason. I get the impression that teams consider Boykins' novelty worn out--we know the guy can score and rack up assists, but he's only getting older...and what else? I just don't see it that way: the guy, as short as he is, is a tough cookie who can get to the basket amongst the trees, shoot an astounding 90%ish from the line, be a proficient passer off the bench despite his scorer, become tops in assists per turnovers, and that's not even getting into his ability to score. Okay, I can't believe I'm rambling for the little guy, but just saying, if it weren't for his height, he should really be an impact player right now, for an impact team.

I have an odd feeling he's going to go to the Clippers--they seem to have dug for the underrated scraps of the NBA right now. The chronically injured, also height-deficient yet top 5 playmaker in the NBA Brevin Knight is on their roster, and the supposedly washed up, yet one time "Kobe stopper" underrated energy boosting scorer Ruben Patterson was also signed by them. I can see the height deficient, yet all-those-things-I-said Boykins joining them.

I would actually be interested now that bibby is out, Boykins is probly the best option. dude can score for a lil guy. I am not sold on shakur....at all.

boykins and green....kinda decent

I like Boykins as well, he still put up good numbers last year and nobody can guard him, he is so quick. Last year in Denver he averaged 15 points a game. I remember in April that game against the Cavs and Earl lit them up for 28 points, 7 assists on 11-15 fg and 5-7 from 3 point.
