Dwight Howard 21/22

Yeah! It sounds like Dwight won that one. ;)

He is a phenominal athlete who plays an exceptional game for such a young man. A 20/20 night is fantastic for anyone.

this is already Dwight's sixth 20 rebound game, and he's barely into his third season in the NBA...my only complaint from often checking Orlando box scores to see how he and Hedo have done is that it seems that the Magic sometimes do not give Dwight the ball enough to keep him involved in the game offensively, and on those nights, his rebounding totals are often down. The Magic have plenty of young talent, and proven veterans in Grant Hill and (to a lesser extent) Hedo, but Dwight is the pick of that team's talent litter, and should be force-fed the ball, imho. Either that, or I'd like to see the Suns trade him straight up for Amare (just so I can enjoy watching Nash run the pick and roll with Dwight).

Well, I like the kid, but, no offense, if we can't have him, let him stay in the East.

That is all...

thank god i have this kid on my fantasy team. he's been a savior. i will celebrate his 20/20 with a peaches & cream mad dog...

In retrospect the Magic made a really good move by moving TMac.

Can you imagine if we had Howard playing alongside Brad.

with orlando''s luck i imagine Howard will get an injury sometime before the allstar break that leaves him in the Amare zone.

I hope not, Dwight Howard and the Magic are my favorite team outside the Kings. Im not obsessed with them like I am with the Kings, but i would cheer if they made the playoffs. The only time i dont cheer for them is when the play the Kings. Kings are first....

Haha...Ditto. Can you imagine what he's gonna do to our frontcourt of KT and SAR when the Kings play the Magic?

He could get his first 30/30 game :p

He's got to get more consitent, but he's 20 years old, and just a beast. Whatever else goes on with that team, Orlando fans are going to be able to go to bed feeling all warm and snuggly for the next 15 years as long as they can just keep him locked into max contracts forever.

Rebounding record...55 in one game!!
You know, I was thinking about exactly that when I first read this thread: On Thursday on PTI, they mentioned the anniversary of when Bill Russell grabbed a then-record 49 rebounds in a game, and how the record stood until it was broken by Wilt. Kornheiser and Wilbon talked about how those two used to get 30 rebounds on the regular, and alluded to how it's almost comical the way people make a huge deal out of 20 nowadays...

If 20 rebound games in today's NBA weren't a big deal, they would be a much more common thing. Some fundamental change(s) are responsible for the extinction of 40+ rebound games.

Likewise, 10 years have passed since the last 30 rebound game.

My memory may decieve me, I think Vlade had 24 rebounds game against Grizlies and also 10 blocks (not the same game I think). At that time these were remarkable stats, but not as big deal as they are today.

Dwight does it again. Back to back 20+ pts/ 20+ rebs game. He has 20pts and 21 rebounds with 5 minutes left to play agains Memphis.

Why was it a good move for Orlando? Lets see, they end up trading T-Mac, Juwan Howard, and some scrub (reece gaines) for Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, and Kelvin Cato.

Francis gets shipped to NY for Trevor Ariza and an expiring contract.

Mobley gets shipped to Sacto for an aging (and soon to be retired) Doug Christie

And Cato gets shipped to Detroit in the Darko deal (but he was a salary filler)

So they essentially traded T-Mac for Trevor Ariza and a tool to get Darko. T-Mac and Dwight Howard, now that would be something to see. And if you make the argument that they wouldn't be able to resign Dwight Howard because of McGrady's contract, just remember that Grant Hill's contract comes off the books this year so that's a max money off the books that could go to Dwight Howard when he re-ups with Orlando. I suppose with the way it is now, they could find a free agent to replace Grant Hill but the only one who's remotely close to McGrady would be Vince Carter. (And if they get him, then I might agree it was all worth it because McGrady just isn't the same any more with those chronic back injuries)

You know...as much as I like the youth push to team Darko + Howard, another thought occurred to me: what if, just saying, but what if given Darko's contract desires Orlando went another way.

What if instead of being patient, what if they took their $16 mil Grant Hill ender, their $5mil Darko, their rights to flakeboy Vasquez over in Spain, maybe a draft pick or some other little pieces around the edge, and made a run at Kevin Garnett. A run clearing immense slary for the Wolves + giving them multriple lottery pick bigs to rebuild with. And a move resulting in this lineup for the Magic:

C- 6'11" Howard
PF- 7'1" KG
SF- 6'10" Hedo
OG- Bonzo the clown
PG- 5'11" Nelson

6th -- 6'11" Battie

A move resulting in the biggest, baddest, most dominant frontline the NBA has seen since Duncan/Robinson in the early years while the Admiral was sitll great. What if?

Luckily for all the other teams who have hopes of winning a championship in the next five years I don't know if Minnesota would go for that. At least I hope they wouldn't go for that. Minnesota, please don't go for that.
