drummond or mkg with the 5th

i feel it will come down to this. personally i want the latter though drummond is the more tradeable asset down the line.

thoughts all

I think this doesn't need it's own thread. But anyway, if both are on the board I'll be extremely p***ed if we don't take MKG. And I also disagree that Drummond is a more tradeable asset. Maybe if you're looking to get Howard, but for other teams, I don't think so. Unless he reaches his potential, in which case you aren't trading him.

MKG is perfect for us. If he's there and GP messes it up due to some incompetent but predictable brain fart, I will not be a happy camper. This draft can go right/wrong in a variety of ways. But if MKG is there, it will take complete ineptitude to miss what is right in front of you. You take him, thank the basketball gods that we got one of the best defenders to come out of the draft in many years at our biggest position of need, and go home. And it's not like he's a scrub offensively. He can do pretty much everything but shoot, and with his work ethic, that will improve.

Don't **** it up, Geoff. It's not hard.

Neither. We got young talent. It's time to go now. Trade it for something useful or lose cousins in two years

I hope we trade it for a vet if we don't get MKG. I don't mind drafting for need when the prospects aren't that great.

MKG will be more than useful. No need to trade it for the sake of it.

Yup. Well, it's a few hours away. Let's just hope and pray that we either get fair value for the #5 or MKG. I may be happy with Barnes too, but don't think I would be with Lillard.

MKG or Waiters please. Both project to be lock down defenders who can run the break with the best of them. MKG is taller and plays a position of need but Waiters probably has the better offensive upside. I'll take either of those two if I'm picking... in the end I trust Petrie though. His track record when it comes to the draft is top notch.

I only saw Syracuse twice but I thought Waiters was impressive. Of course, given their zone defense I couldn't get a real handle on his defensive potential. He seems to have the athleticism and quick hands to be a good defender, but I don't know if his size would hurt him. Honestly, Waiters scares me. He's not even 6'3" without shoes and while he might work in a starting backcourt with Tyreke if he can guard opposing PGs, when either Thomas or Thornton are in the game it makes for a very undersized backcourt.

I'm not enjoying this draft day. In years past it has been exciting to wait to find out who the Kings take, what trades they make and what direction the team might be headed in. But this year, with the Maloofs showing themselves to be poor owners (both financially and in terms of running a franchise), Petrie's awful draft day moves last year, all the rumors floating about and the general uncertainty about this year's crop, I'm actually much more anxious than excited.

I'll actually be relieved when the draft is over.

I agree that his size is the biggest concern there. He's not much smaller than Wade but he is smaller for sure. He's bigger than Jason Terry and projects as a similar type of combo guard.

Latest from Sam Amick:

"Also, I've been assured that it's possible that the Kings would pass on Kidd-Gilchrist if he remained available."

Dear god, please knock some sense into our front office today. We've been through enough.

That's so idiotic and something the franchise will regret. I've always been willing to give Petrie the benefit of the doubt the last few years despite some shaky moves but if he passes on MKG, I'm going to be very, very angry. It's ineptitude - we couldn't ask for a better fit at SF, our biggest position of need, and he's going to pass on him. Ridiculous.

Maybe they're trying to trick the Cavaliers into not drafting MKG. Maybe it means that they'll trade the pick if MKG is there...

I don't think it is. Unless they are trying to convince teams they don't need to trade up to get him ahead of us, but that's highly unlikely anyways. The last few years, the information near draft day surrounding the Kings has been pretty accurate. Most people knew we'd take Evans, Cousins and Jimmer if they were available. It came out that we didn't like Rubio, and it proved to be true. Same thing with Knight last year. I think this is most likely true, unfortunately.

This year's draft is so unpredictable with the possibility of trades, moving down. I am just going to sit back, and watch it play out. Hope we get what we want this year, and the Maloofs don't mettle.

I would take Drummond over MKG. MKG will be a good player, but I don't see the superstar potential. Maybe he continues to work hard and proves me wrong.

Drummond has superstar potential with his size and athleticism alone. So it really depends on his interview with GP and the FO. If they believe he is a good kid and will work hard, take Drummond. You don't see 19 year old, 7 feet 280 lbs centers that can jump, run and block shots everyday.

Who ever we pick at 5, we will not be picking for ourselves. We are trading the pick. I am 98% certain of that!

I suspect you could be correct. If we pick Drummond, I'm almost certain it will be part of a trade. Should be a suspenseful day. My gut tells me something is afoot. But then I've had a couple of cervesa's.

I already know he's a good kid. So was Donte Greene! Not a fair comparison, but you get my point. I just don't know how you know a kid will work hard or not. Especially when he has a track record of not doing so. Drummond is like a lot of very athletic players in that it came easy for him in highschool where he was just bigger, taller, quicker than everyone else. All that should translate, and will, if he puts in the work. And thats where the gamble is. And anyone that doesn't think its a big gamble is kidding themselves.

I wish they let me drink cervesa's at work.
