I said that statement with the idea that he would be a great defender at PF
Why do you say otherwise?

Primarily because I think there are better defenders that will be drafted around the same position. Cauley-Stein for one example. Perhaps mistakenly I have thought Vonleh to be a better defender. I'd rather have a real 7 footer than a 6'9" wanna-be. I admit I haven't watched Gordon much and people like him but I thought he was liked for his offense. Am I wrong? If I am, that's fine. I have nothing against learning something. The two times I saw him play I just wasn't impressed and I am sure bajaden will yell at me.
I presume he plays near where you live or you are an Arizona fan.

He's not a rim protector who can cover for other people's mistakes. Sure, Gordon can probably contain his own man defensively, but we need someone at PF who can hold down his own man as well as clean-up his teammate's mistakes. Gordon doesn't provide that threat in the paint we need. I'm surprised there are people on here still opting for a non-shotblocking PF to play next to Cousins in all honesty.

To be honest I'm just going off Youtube highlights. I was looking at the little things though. He seemed to get good position to challenge shots. That mixed with athleticism could be something special. As far as offense he can dunk but don't see nothing out the ordinary for his skill. I wouldn't be mad if we got him around the 10 spot.

Hey, the way the Lottery Balls have fallen in the past (to the detriment of the Kings Organization), who knows where we will pick if we get in the lottery. Isn't it time some other team thought the Lottery was rigged ?
Tanking does not happen anymore. I think teams that are bad just lose in new and inventive ways. With the Lottery and free agency players are loathe to tank their numbers and as we have seen with the Lottery you could have the best chance and end up with butkus. I think the Kings will still be in the Lottery, and anything is possible once you are in the running. But I try not to have expectations because I cant keep breaking TV's/Radios....

I hear gay and cuz will be coming back before the feb 5 I would have liked. Malone said all three could be back next game, which could hurt our ability to lose a couple of games coming up
I will never understand this approach at this time. Just loser talk. Go out and win some games. The lottery will take care of itself.

I wish we could change the title of this thread. Every time I come here I think that many people are advocating deliberate losing. A few may. We are long past the position where getting the #1 pick is essential for our success. On our team right now are two guys who in other years would be #1 picks or at least the guys we want. Now we need to develop a winning tradition. We will get what we need in the draft. Let there be no fear that this is not possible. We are not winning as some people expected so we will be in a good position. Every team in the lottery has a shot at a top three pick. A top three pick will improve our team.
Better yet, a top 10 pick will improve our team. I will grant that the higher our pick, the more likely we improve but if this team continues to lose and continues to have a loser's mentality, it won't make any difference who we pick.

I don't want him.. people compare him to Griffin, but I acutally think he is more athletic than Griffin because of his quickness... so my comparison would be our very own.. Derrick Williams. I think he's a poorman's D-Will. One of the concerns I see around him is that he's a bit of a "tweener". I think he's a tweener because he's trying really hard to develop his game, but in the wrong areas. He's pushing it way too hard to become a 3, and I just don't see it nor do many writers. The kings should stay as far away as possible from him.. I've seen mocks having us take him while passing on guys like Vonleh, Cauley-Stein, and etc.

I expect the players and coaches to try to win. The tanking should be executed by the GM not giving the team what it needs to win. Thus I wouldn't expect our rim protector to arrive this season if that's Pete's strategy.
I don't mind a well-executed tank. We're not going to the playoffs; having a top draft pick (star) on our (championship) team for years to come will far outweigh the benefits of that 30-win (as opposed to 25-win ) season back in '13-'14.

We have a tough schedule taking into account opposition win percentage, road games, back to backs etc. in comparison to some of the other teams with a similar record (uth, phi, bos, cle, LAL) on first glance. We could show a lot of individual and team improvement while still getting a top 6-7 prospect conceivably

Bottom 4 from East will still be much worse, once Boogie returns. Lakers are in free fall, and seem to be a lock for 15th place in the West. Denver is 7.5 games ahead so 11th pick is likely the lowest one, which Kings will be picking at.
Knicks are picking up steam, and can pass Bobcats before long, so Kings' likely competition in 6-11 range:
Cavs are really cracking despite "win now" trade for Deng. Everything is possible in the East, but Cavs look like they finish below Kings.
Utah is picking wins here and there, and is 15-18 with Burke playing. I expect them to continue with .450 win rate the rest of the season, so if Kings pick up the pace of the two weeks before Houston game, expect Sacramento to be just a couple of games ahead of Utah at the end of the year.
Pistons are showing signs of bad team chemistry, and the League is starting to figure out, just how ineffective Smith/Monroe/Drummond front court is. Unless Monroe is traded for solid pieces, that Cheeks can plug in immediately, I wouldn't bet on them finishing higher than Kings.
Bobcats and Pelicans are winning a bit, plus Pelicans will probably get Anderson for the last month and a half of the season, so these two teams will be with Kings in the mix for #9-#11 before lottery.
Of course, it's all speculation. Maybe Cavs will suddenly figure things out, or trade Waiters to improve chemistry, Jazz play above .500 for the rest of the season, or Kings prove that massive improvement before injuries was just an illusion, plus another roster overhaul is very much possible at the deadline, including McCallum as the only PG left from current roster.

Minus any moves, I would not be surprised at the Kings being better than any non-playoff teams from the East. Before the injuries the Kings were close to .500 post the Gay trade. With the softer schedule coming up, there is no reason not to expect that trend (minus any additional injuries and trades that are a detriment to the team) to continue. If that guess holds true minus luck with the ping pong balls, the best the Kings will be is eighth.
I agree with Gilles about where the Kings will pick. I would not want to be sitting at #12 before the lottery, given the Kings luck in the past (which has no bearing on the now I know).

Gordon will not be an offensive 3 in the NBA...but I think he can defend 3's. He's quick. Saw him D up some swings in recent games on the perimeter. Nice bench player or role player on an elite team. I think he's a winner in the way he helps a team on the floor. Not a good pick for the rebuilding Kings, though, imo.
Yeah, but a 13/14 team jumping is so unlikely (less than 4%) that it's not much to fret over.
That said, I've been looking at it back and forth for a while, and barring injuries it looks to me like we're destined for the #11 slot. We've got a lighter (though more road-heavy) schedule coming up with a lot of Eastern Conference matchups to fatten up DeMarcus on. In fact, the bulk of the interconference matchups haven't happened yet, so everybody in the East is going to dip a bit. We finish as a playoff team in the east, in my guesstimate. Then there are the Lakers (should end up in the bottom in the West), Utah (not as strong as the Kings with a healthy Cousins) and New Orleans (ditto, I think) that we're likely to pass up by playing close to our ability. But I don't see us passing Denver/Minny/Memphis or any of the current West playoff teams.
